Samsung announced U.S. availability of the Galaxy A16 5G phone and Galaxy Fit3 fitness band on January 2, 2025; both went on sale nationwide January 9. Their launch MSRPs were $199.99 and $59.99, respectively. The Fit3 is a phone-connected tracker, not a standalone smartwatch, and the launch bundle discount has expired.
What Samsung brought to the U.S.
This was a U.S. availability announcement for two existing products, not a new global unveiling. Samsung positioned the Galaxy A16 5G as an entry-level Android phone and the Galaxy Fit3 as a companion fitness band. At launch, buyers could find them through Samsung.com, national retailers and carriers. Samsung’s announcement said the Fit3 would receive a 50%-off discount when purchased with the A16 5G on Samsung.com from January 9 through February 9, 2025, while supplies lasted; that promotion is over.
Galaxy A16 5G: the phone’s main specifications
The U.S. launch configuration paired a large AMOLED screen and 5G with expandable storage and a 5,000mAh battery. Samsung lists these headline details:
- Display: 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, with a refresh rate up to 90Hz and peak brightness up to 800 nits.
- Processor: Exynos 1330.
- Cameras: 50MP main, 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro rear cameras, plus a 13MP front camera. The sensor count alone does not indicate flagship-level image quality.
- Battery and charging: 5,000mAh battery and 25W wired charging. Wireless charging is not supported, and the power adapter is sold separately.
- Storage: 128GB built in, with microSD expansion supported up to 1.5TB. The card is a separate purchase.
- Durability and security: IP54 dust and splash resistance, and Samsung Knox Vault.
The IP54 rating describes dust resistance and protection from splashed water; it is not an immersion rating. Carrier models can differ in supported bands, SIM configuration and software, so check the model number and carrier details rather than assuming every U.S. version is identical. Samsung’s U.S. support page covers charging and storage details.

Samsung’s software-support promise
Samsung said the A16 5G would receive six generations of One UI and Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates. That is Samsung’s stated support policy, not a schedule guaranteeing that every update or feature arrives at the same time on every carrier. Update timing can vary by U.S. model and carrier firmware.
Galaxy Fit3: fitness-band features and limits
The Fit3 has a 1.6-inch display, an aluminum body and a replaceable-band design. Samsung estimated battery life of up to 13 days under its stated usage conditions; actual endurance depends on use and settings. It is rated 5ATM and IP68 for water and dust resistance, subject to the product’s usage conditions and exclusions—not invulnerability.

Its wellness and convenience features include:
- Step, heart-rate, stress and blood-oxygen tracking.
- Sleep tracking and sleep coaching, plus snore detection.
- More than 100 workout modes and more than 100 preset watch faces.
- Fall detection and SOS functions, with phone-dependent emergency capabilities.
- Camera and media controls, Find My Phone, and health-data syncing to Samsung Health.
The Fit3 is a fitness band rather than a full Galaxy Watch. Samsung’s announcement does not establish cellular connectivity, standalone phone calls or a full smartwatch app ecosystem. Its safety and phone-control functions rely on a compatible phone and connected services; fall detection can offer an option to contact emergency services through a nearby phone, while SOS can notify emergency contacts. Connectivity, permissions and setup affect what works, so it should not be treated as a phone-free emergency device.
Heart-rate, blood-oxygen, stress and sleep measurements are wellness features, not medical diagnosis or treatment. Samsung notes that snore detection requires pairing with a compatible smartphone, Samsung Health and a Samsung account.

Pairing the Fit3 with the Galaxy A16 5G
Samsung documents the standard setup in its Fit3 support instructions. Charge and power on both devices, keep them close, and use this path on the A16:
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app.
- Tap Start.
- Choose Galaxy Fit3 from the device list.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and grant the requested permissions.
Once connected, the band can sync data to Samsung Health, control the phone’s camera and media playback, and help locate the phone. Bluetooth, compatible software and permissions are prerequisites; some functions also require a Samsung account. If setup does not find the band, check that Bluetooth is on, both devices have charge, and the Fit3 is not still paired with another phone. The support instructions establish the normal pairing flow but not a complete troubleshooting or reset procedure, so consult current Samsung support guidance before resetting a band.

Who the A16 5G and Fit3 may suit
The phone
The A16 5G makes most sense for someone seeking a budget Samsung phone with a large AMOLED display, 5G, expandable storage and a long stated support window. Buyers should account for a separate power adapter and the absence of wireless charging. Its entry-level positioning also makes it a less natural fit for shoppers prioritizing premium camera processing, demanding gaming or flagship performance.

The band
The Fit3 suits Galaxy users who want activity, sleep and workout tracking plus basic phone controls, and who are comfortable with a phone-connected wearable. It is a poor match for someone seeking LTE, standalone calls, richer smartwatch apps or phone-free emergency communication; those needs call for a full smartwatch with the required connectivity.
