The Pro model is technically better overall, but Samsung has given the two earbuds fundamentally different physical designs, so there is no universal need to pay for Pro.
Short answer: choose the Galaxy Buds4 Pro if you want the best noise isolation, a more secure sealed fit, stronger water resistance, dual-driver sound, and the fullest Galaxy feature set. Choose the Galaxy Buds4 if you dislike silicone-tip earbuds, prefer an open fit, want greater awareness of your surroundings, or find them meaningfully cheaper.
The most important difference is not the shared Galaxy branding, high-resolution audio support, or wireless charging. It is the physical design: Buds4 Pro are closed in-ear earbuds, while Buds4 use an open fit. That makes the Buds4 and Buds4 Pro different solutions rather than simple good-better versions of the same product.

Galaxy Buds4 vs Buds4 Pro: the quick decision
| Choose | If you care most about | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Buds4 Pro | Commuting, flights, noisy offices, stronger ANC, secure fit, richer isolation, exercise, and durability | The sealed in-ear design blocks more sound passively, supports more effective noise control, and stays more controlled in loud environments. |
| Galaxy Buds4 | Open-fit comfort, environmental awareness, no silicone tips, lighter earbuds, and quiet-room listening | The open design feels less sealed and makes it easier to hear conversations and surroundings, but cannot isolate noise as effectively. |
For a commuter, frequent flyer, or listener who regularly uses ANC, the Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro are the safer all-round purchase. For someone who actively dislikes sealed earbuds, paying extra for Pro may produce a worse personal experience despite the Pro model’s stronger specifications.
The real difference: open fit versus sealed in-ear fit
Galaxy Buds4: open and more aware
The regular Buds4 sit in an open configuration rather than forming the same tight silicone-tip seal as the Pro. That can be more comfortable for people who feel pressure from in-ear earbuds, dislike the plugged-up sensation, or want to hear colleagues and nearby traffic without constantly switching to Ambient Sound.
There is an unavoidable trade-off. An open earbud cannot create the same physical barrier against low-frequency engine rumble, office noise, gym music, or nearby conversation. ANC can reduce some external sound electronically, but its performance is more dependent on placement and cannot compensate fully for the missing passive seal.
Independent comparison testing found the Buds4 Pro’s isolation substantially stronger than the Buds4’s. That does not make Buds4 ANC useless; it means the open model is best understood as an awareness-first design, not as a sealed-earbud replacement with identical noise cancellation.
Galaxy Buds4 Pro: sealed and more isolated
The Buds4 Pro use a closed in-ear construction designed to shield the ear more effectively. The seal matters before ANC even starts: it reduces outside sound passively and gives the earbuds a more consistent acoustic environment.
That makes Pro the better choice for airplanes, trains, buses, busy offices, gyms, and other places where background noise is a priority. It can also help the earbuds deliver more consistent bass, because the low frequencies are less affected by gaps between the earbud and ear canal.
The sealed fit is not automatically comfortable for every ear. Ear shape, tip size, pressure tolerance, and how securely the earbuds sit will determine whether the Pro feels stable or intrusive. No specification can guarantee a comfortable fit for everyone.

Specifications that actually matter

|---|---|---|---|
| Fit | Open | Closed in-ear | The biggest buying difference: awareness and less-sealed comfort versus isolation and a stronger seal. |

| ANC features | ANC, Ambient Sound, Adaptive EQ, Adaptive ANC | All of those, plus Voice Detect and Siren Detect | Both have the core noise-control modes; Pro adds more automatic situational handling. |
| Earbud weight | 4.6 g each | 5.1 g each | Buds4 are slightly lighter, although fit usually matters more than a 0.5 g difference. |

Sound quality: Pro has the hardware advantage, not a guaranteed win
Samsung equips the Buds4 with an 11 mm one-way speaker. The Buds4 Pro add a two-way arrangement consisting of an 11 mm woofer and a 5.5 mm tweeter. In principle, that gives the Pro more flexibility in separating bass and treble and shaping the overall presentation.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Independent comparison work describes the Buds4 as brighter and more treble-forward, while the Pro sounds warmer and more balanced. The Pro’s sealed fit also helps it maintain more consistent low-frequency reproduction and gives external noise less opportunity to compete with the music.
Those observations are test-based tendencies, not a universal verdict. Your ear shape, tip selection, source device, EQ settings, music preferences, and seal will influence what you hear. The Pro’s two-way speaker is a meaningful hardware advantage, but it does not mean every listener will prefer its tuning.
Do both models support high-resolution audio?
Yes, both models support Samsung’s UHQ audio, 24-bit Hi-Fi, and 360 Audio features on compatible devices. Samsung lists support for up to 24-bit/96 kHz on supported Galaxy hardware and software combinations.
That qualification matters. The highest-quality modes and Galaxy-specific features are not universal Bluetooth features. Compatibility is more limited on iPhone, PC, game consoles, and many non-Samsung Android setups. If you mostly listen from a non-Galaxy device, the Buds4 Pro’s advantage comes mainly from its fit, drivers, isolation, and battery—not from a special hi-res ecosystem unavailable to the regular Buds4.

ANC and smart features
Both earbuds offer Active Noise Cancellation, Ambient Sound, Adaptive EQ, and Adaptive ANC. The regular Buds4 therefore cover the core features most people expect from modern noise-cancelling earbuds.
The Pro adds two notable automatic functions:
- Voice Detect: Samsung says the earbuds can increase ambient sound when you begin speaking and restore ANC afterward.
- Siren Detect: the earbuds can raise ambient sound for alerts such as alarms or emergency-vehicle sirens.
These features make Pro more convenient in changing environments, but they should not be confused with a fundamentally different Galaxy software platform. Both models support core audio and call streaming over Bluetooth, while the most advanced functions are concentrated on compatible Galaxy devices.

- AI-Enhanced Clear Calls: 2 built-in mics and an AI algorithm work together to pick up your voice so that you never have to shout over the phone.
Depending on the phone, operating system, and software version, limitations may apply to 24-bit/96 kHz audio, 360 Audio, Galaxy AI wake-up functions, Interpreter, Auto Switch, and other Galaxy conveniences. Head Gestures also require care in how they are described: Samsung promotes them with the Pro launch material, but its compatibility information lists the feature for the Buds4 series on supported Galaxy hardware. They are not a universally available Pro-only capability.
Battery life: a modest Pro lead
Samsung rates the Buds4 for up to 5 hours with ANC enabled and up to 24 hours including the case. With ANC disabled, the figures rise to up to 6 hours per charge and 30 hours total.
The Buds4 Pro are rated for up to 6 hours with ANC enabled and 26 hours including the case. With ANC disabled, they reach up to 7 hours per charge and the same 30 hours total.
So the Pro gives you one extra hour in the earbuds with ANC and two extra hours when the case is included. With ANC off, the per-charge advantage remains, but the total case-assisted rating is identical.
These are Samsung’s internal estimates and vary with volume, codec, Bluetooth conditions, calls, feature use, and other settings. In one independent standardized test, SoundGuys measured approximately 4 hours 56 minutes for Buds4 and slightly more than six hours for Buds4 Pro with ANC. Treat that as one publication’s test result, not a guarantee of your own runtime.
Durability: Pro is better protected
The Galaxy Buds4 are rated IP54, while the Buds4 Pro are rated IP57. That gives the Pro the stronger published protection against dust and water exposure and makes it the more reassuring option for sweaty workouts or less predictable conditions.

An IP rating is not permission to treat either model as indestructible. It does not remove the need to dry the earbuds, avoid unnecessary water exposure, and follow Samsung’s conditions for the rating. Neither model should be assumed safe for unrestricted submersion simply because it has an IP designation.

Who should buy the Galaxy Buds4 Pro?
Buy the Galaxy Buds4 Pro when most of these statements describe you:
- You commute by train, bus, or airplane.
- You work in a noisy office or regularly listen around other people.
- You want the strongest isolation available between these two models.
- You prefer a secure, sealed in-ear fit.
- You want the two-way speaker system and warmer, more controlled presentation.
- You use ANC for long periods and value the extra rated hour.
- You want Voice Detect and Siren Detect.
- You exercise in conditions where the stronger IP57 rating is useful.
- You use a compatible Galaxy phone and want the most complete feature set.
The Pro is especially easy to justify when the price difference is modest. Its advantages affect everyday use—fit, isolation, sound consistency, battery with ANC, and protection—rather than merely adding a longer specification list.

- You dislike silicone tips or the pressure of sealed earbuds.
- You want to remain aware of conversations and nearby sounds.
- You mostly listen at home, in quiet offices, or in other relatively calm spaces.
- You prefer the lighter 4.6 g earbud design.
- You want ANC and Galaxy features without paying for the Pro’s additional hardware.
- The Buds4 are available at a meaningful discount.
The Buds4 are not a bad version of the Pro. Their open fit is the reason to buy them. If that design suits your ears and routine better, the regular model may be the more useful choice even though the Pro wins on technical performance.
Features that should not decide the purchase
Several shared features can make the products look closer than they feel:
- 24-bit/96 kHz audio: both models support it on compatible Galaxy devices, so it is not a Pro-only reason to upgrade.
- Qi wireless charging: both cases support it.
- 30-hour ANC-off case runtime: both models have the same Samsung-rated total when ANC is disabled.
- Basic ANC: both offer ANC, but the Pro’s sealed fit gives it a much stronger physical foundation.
- Bluetooth 6.1: do not choose Pro solely for a newer connectivity specification when the everyday difference is primarily fit and isolation.
Value depends on the price gap
Samsung’s launch specifications establish the differences, but a single launch price should not be treated as a permanent market price. Retail promotions, regional availability, colors, bundles, and local warranty terms can change the calculation.
Use this rule at checkout:
- If the price gap is small: choose Buds4 Pro unless you specifically want an open fit.
- If the price gap is substantial: choose based on your environment. Quiet-room and awareness-first listeners can save money with Buds4; frequent ANC users will benefit more from Pro.
- If both are heavily discounted: prioritize fit and isolation over small battery and specification differences.
For the current price, verify the model, seller, stock status, regional warranty, and return policy rather than relying on an old launch-price comparison.

Galaxy Buds4 Pro vs Buds4: final verdict
The Galaxy Buds4 Pro are the better technical product, but the Galaxy Buds4 may be the better personal fit.
Choose Pro for a sealed in-ear design, substantially stronger isolation, more consistent bass, dual-driver hardware, an extra hour of ANC-rated battery life, IP57 protection, and additional automatic features. Choose Buds4 for open-fit comfort, lighter earbuds, and greater awareness of your surroundings.
In other words, there is no universal need to go Pro. There is a strong reason to go Pro if you want isolation. If you do not want a sealed earbud, the Pro’s extra specifications cannot solve the fundamental problem of choosing the wrong fit.
