Samsung’s Galaxy Ring launched on July 24, 2024, and remains the company’s current smart ring as of August 10, 2026. It is a screenless health and sleep tracker priced at $399.99 in the U.S. at list price, although Samsung is currently advertising it from $299.99 before trade-in. The ring works with compatible Android phones, requires Samsung’s apps and account, and has no separate subscription for its core Samsung Health experience.

It is best understood as a discreet sleep, recovery and passive-wellness companion to a Galaxy Watch—not a replacement for a smartwatch. iPhone owners, serious athletes and anyone expecting ECG, GPS or live workout information should look elsewhere. Samsung has announced a sleep-apnea risk-detection feature for the existing ring for fall 2026, but it has not announced a Galaxy Ring 2 release date, specifications or price.

Table of Contents

Quick verdict

  • Buy the Galaxy Ring if you use a Samsung Galaxy phone, want discreet overnight tracking and do not want another monthly subscription.
  • Choose a Galaxy Watch if you need a screen, GPS, live pace or heart-rate-zone data, workout controls or a wider range of health sensors.
  • Consider Oura or another smart ring if you use an iPhone or want a more platform-flexible companion app. Check subscription requirements and phone support carefully.
  • Wait only if you specifically want a Galaxy Ring 2. Samsung has indicated that a future Ring product is part of its wearable plans, but no second-generation model has been formally announced.
  • Monitor software updates if Samsung’s planned fall 2026 sleep-apnea risk-detection feature matters to you. It was announced as forthcoming, not as a feature already available to every owner.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Ring?

The Galaxy Ring is Samsung’s first-generation smart ring for continuous wellness tracking. It has no screen, buttons or onboard display, so it records data on your finger and sends the results to the Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable apps on a connected Android phone.

Its main advantages over a smartwatch are discretion, low weight and suitability for sleep. There are no notifications competing for your attention and no watch face to charge around your wrist. The trade-off is equally straightforward: you cannot glance at the ring to see your heart rate, pace or workout progress. For live feedback, you need your phone or a separate watch.

Samsung built the Ring around three primary sensor types:

  • An accelerometer for movement, steps and activity-related measurements.
  • An optical bio-signal or PPG sensor for heart-rate and related measurements.
  • A skin-temperature sensor used for wellness and cycle-tracking features.

Samsung’s published specifications do not list ECG, blood-pressure, body-composition or onboard GPS functions on the ring. Those are capabilities associated with Galaxy Watch models or phone-assisted services, not measurements the Ring independently provides from its published sensor set. See Samsung’s official specifications and wearable announcement for the hardware details.

Release date, price and availability

Launch timeline

  • Announced: July 10, 2024.
  • General U.S. availability: July 24, 2024.
  • Original U.S. price: $399.99.
  • Original size range: 5 through 13.
  • Original finishes: Titanium Black, Titanium Silver and Titanium Gold.

Samsung’s launch announcement and U.S. availability announcement establish the original timing. Older articles that describe the Ring as an unreleased product are no longer current.

Current U.S. pricing

As of August 10, 2026, Samsung’s current purchase page lists the Galaxy Ring at $399.99. Samsung’s main Ring landing page advertises the product from $299.99 before trade-in. That lower figure is a promotional starting price, not a replacement for the standard list price, and the final amount can depend on the promotion, size, trade-in and inventory.

The current U.S. range is sizes 5 through 15. Samsung added sizes 14 and 15 in January 2025, so 5–13 specifications found in early reviews are outdated. The available finishes remain Titanium Black, Titanium Silver and Titanium Gold. Exact color and size inventory changes, so check the current Samsung purchase page before ordering. Prices and availability outside the U.S. vary by market.

For Samsung’s detailed hardware and support information, see the official Galaxy Ring specifications and charging guide.

Water resistance is not an unlimited waterproofing guarantee

Samsung’s U.S. product footnotes describe the Ring’s 10ATM classification as equivalent to up to 100 meters of fresh water for up to 10 minutes. Its IP68 rating is described as equivalent to up to 6 feet of water for up to 30 minutes under test conditions.

Those ratings should not be turned into a promise that the ring is safe for unlimited swimming, diving, high-pressure water, hot tubs or saunas. Water resistance can also change after physical damage or wear. Treat the ratings as protection for specified conditions, not as an invitation to use the Ring as diving equipment.

Scratch and physical-wear considerations

The Ring’s concave design and titanium finish are intended to reduce everyday scratching, but the ring is still exposed to impacts and abrasion. Samsung recommends removing it when handling hard or heavy objects and avoiding metal jewelry on adjacent fingers. Its wearing guidance is more useful than simply assuming that titanium makes the product indestructible.

Battery life and the charging case

Samsung markets the Galaxy Ring as lasting up to seven days, but that headline needs context. The detailed launch specifications rate smaller original sizes for up to six days and sizes 12 and 13 for up to seven days. Battery life also changes with workout detection, sensor settings, reconnections, gestures, phone model and how frequently the Ring communicates with the phone.

Independent testing has generally landed closer to five or six days in typical use for some users. That does not contradict Samsung’s claim: up to seven days is a best-case, size-dependent rating rather than a guaranteed result for every size and usage pattern.

The charging case is central to the ownership experience. It is not merely a storage box. Samsung says a full charge using the case takes approximately 80 minutes, and its current product page says the Ring and a fully charged cradle can provide up to 14 days of combined use. The case charges through USB-C or compatible wireless charging, and a compatible Galaxy phone or tablet can charge it with Wireless PowerShare. Samsung documents the options in its Galaxy Ring and Galaxy S25 integration guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In practical terms, the case makes short top-ups easy, but it also adds something you must carry and keep charged. If you are comparing rings, compare the case as part of the system rather than looking only at the ring’s battery figure.

Health and fitness tracking

Sleep tracking

Sleep is the Galaxy Ring’s clearest strength. Depending on the enabled features and connected phone, Samsung Health can show:

  • Total sleep time and time in bed.
  • Sleep stages.
  • Sleep score.
  • Sleep latency.
  • Nighttime movement and restfulness.
  • Heart rate and heart-rate variability.
  • Respiratory rate.
  • Blood oxygen.
  • Skin temperature.
  • Snoring information when snore detection is configured through the phone.

Independent testing has found the Ring’s sleep-time estimates broadly close to competing devices. Wareable reported that sleep timing was usually within approximately 10 minutes of an Oura Ring in its testing. That is a reviewer observation, not a clinical accuracy guarantee, and it should not be confused with validation against a sleep laboratory.

Sleep stages, blood oxygen, heart-rate variability and similar measurements are best used to look for personal patterns over time. They are not diagnoses, and a single unusual reading should not be treated as a medical conclusion. Samsung describes many of these features as general-wellness or personal-reference tools.

Snore detection uses the phone’s microphone

Snore detection is not produced solely by the Ring’s sensors. Samsung’s setup requires the connected phone to listen for and record snoring while you sleep. This means the Ring does not contain a hidden microphone for the feature. Samsung provides controls for deleting the recorded audio; review those settings if you use the feature. The official sleep-tracking guidance explains the requirement.

Energy Score

Energy Score is Samsung’s wellness index that combines factors including previous sleep, daily activity, sleeping heart rate, heart-rate variability and related sleep data. It is intended to summarize readiness or daily condition, not to measure a medical state.

The score depends on synchronization with Samsung Health and the full experience may require a compatible Samsung Galaxy AI phone. Therefore, a non-Samsung Android phone may support the Ring’s core tracking without providing every Energy Score or Galaxy AI capability shown in Samsung’s marketing.

Activity and workouts

The Ring counts steps and can automatically detect selected activities, including walking and running. To configure automatic detection, open Galaxy Wearable → Health settings → Activities to detect → Auto detect.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is better suited to passive activity tracking than to live training. With no screen, the Ring cannot show real-time pace, maps, heart-rate zones or workout controls on your finger. A Galaxy Watch or phone remains the better interface for runners, cyclists and gym users who need feedback during an activity.

Heart-rate monitoring and alerts

The Ring automatically measures heart rate and supports manual readings as well as high- and low-heart-rate alerts. Samsung says an alert can be issued when the heart rate remains above or below the configured threshold for more than 10 minutes. These alerts are not a substitute for medical monitoring or emergency care.

Cycle tracking

Samsung’s Cycle Tracking feature uses skin-temperature data and is powered by Natural Cycles in supported countries. Samsung says it is intended for users aged 18 and older, requires the latest Samsung Health app and recommends wearing the Ring for at least four hours during sleep on five nights per week to improve predictions.

Availability depends on country, device and regulatory status. Samsung also states that the feature is not intended to be used as contraception. Treat it as a cycle-prediction and wellness feature, not as a universal fertility or medical solution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sleep-apnea detection: announced, not yet universal

At launch, the Galaxy Ring did not include Samsung’s FDA-authorized sleep-apnea feature. That earlier feature belonged to compatible Galaxy Watch models, and some older reviews correctly identified its absence from the Ring.

The position changed at Samsung’s July 22, 2026 Galaxy Unpacked event. Samsung announced that the existing Galaxy Ring is expected to receive an FDA-cleared, over-the-counter feature in fall 2026 for detecting signs associated with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea. Reports from Android Central and Tom’s Guide cover the announcement.

As of August 10, 2026, describe this as announced and forthcoming, not as a feature already available to every owner. Samsung has not yet published final support details covering the exact setup process, required number of nights, supported Ring firmware, supported phones, countries, whether a Galaxy Watch is required, or the final labeling. Even after release, risk detection would not diagnose sleep apnea or replace professional medical care.

Compatibility: Android works, but Galaxy phones get the fullest experience

Minimum requirements

Samsung’s launch requirements include:

  • Android 11 or newer.
  • At least 1.5GB of phone memory.
  • Galaxy Wearable.
  • Samsung Health version 6.27 or newer at launch.
  • A Samsung account.

App versions and feature requirements can change, so a phone that meets the original Android baseline may not necessarily support every newer feature. You should also expect the Ring to depend on Samsung Health for meaningful data review and Galaxy Wearable for configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung Galaxy phones

A compatible Samsung Galaxy phone provides the most complete experience. Samsung reserves some deeper Galaxy AI functions for compatible Samsung Galaxy AI phones, and Galaxy owners receive closer integration with features such as Find My Ring and phone-control gestures.

Non-Samsung Android phones

The Ring can pair with compatible non-Samsung Android phones, and many core tracking functions are available outside the Galaxy phone ecosystem. However, Android compatible does not mean feature parity across every Android handset. Galaxy AI requirements, app versions, Samsung-account features and regional availability can limit what a particular phone can do.

The safest buying assumption is that non-Samsung Android users can access the core ring experience but should not assume every advertised Galaxy integration will work. Samsung’s compatibility information and current product footnotes should be checked for the exact phone model.

iPhone support

The Galaxy Ring does not support iPhones. There is no iOS version of the Galaxy Wearable experience that turns it into an iPhone-compatible ring. iPhone users should instead investigate a ring with an iOS companion app, such as Oura, Amazfit, RingConn or another current alternative, while checking each product’s features and subscription terms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Gestures and phone controls

The Ring supports a double-pinch gesture for dismissing alarms and taking a photo or video. It is an ecosystem feature rather than a general Bluetooth control system.

For gestures to work:

  • The phone must run One UI 6.1.1 or later.
  • Gestures must be enabled in Galaxy Wearable.
  • The double pinch is optimized for use with the index finger.
  • A Galaxy Watch with gestures enabled must not be worn at the same time, because the Ring gesture control will not work in that situation.

To enable the feature, open Galaxy Wearable → select Galaxy Ring → Gestures, then enable Dismiss alarm and/or Take picture or video. Tap Try it to test the gesture. Samsung provides additional gesture troubleshooting documentation.

Find My Ring is not built-in GPS

Samsung provides Find My Ring through Galaxy Wearable, SmartThings and Samsung Find-related services. Setup requires the Ring and compatible devices to be configured in SmartThings, along with relevant Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and offline-finding settings.

This does not mean the Ring contains GPS or independently tracks its location. Samsung’s launch disclosures state that the Ring itself does not keep track of its location. Find My Ring is an ecosystem-assisted finding feature, not live GPS tracking. If you lose the Ring away from compatible connections, its ability to help locate itself depends on the configured Samsung network and available nearby devices.

Sizing and fit: do not skip the sizing kit

Correct fit matters more with a sensor ring than with ordinary jewelry. A loose ring can create gaps between the sensors and skin, while a ring that feels acceptable during the day may become uncomfortable as fingers swell overnight.

Samsung recommends ordering a sizing kit, wearing the sample ring for at least 24 hours and sleeping in it before confirming the final size. A practical process is:

  1. Order the sizing kit rather than guessing from an existing ring. Finger sizes are not universal across fingers or brands.
  2. Wear the sample for a full day and night. Test it while typing, gripping objects and sleeping.
  3. Choose a snug but comfortable fit. The Ring should maintain close skin contact without causing pain, numbness or excessive pressure.
  4. Orient the ring correctly. Place the orientation indicator toward the palm.
  5. Prefer the non-dominant hand to reduce scratching and impact during everyday tasks.
  6. Avoid adjacent metal jewelry and remove the Ring when handling hard or heavy objects.
  7. Keep it away from magnets, which Samsung says can interfere with health tracking.

The sizing kit is part of the purchase decision, not just an optional convenience. Because the product is worn continuously and sensor contact affects readings, getting the size wrong can undermine both comfort and data quality.

Using the Galaxy Ring with a Galaxy Watch

Samsung designed the Ring and Galaxy Watch to work together rather than serve identical roles. The Ring is strongest for discreet overnight and passive tracking; the Watch provides a display, live workout feedback and a broader collection of sensors and controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The combination can be useful if you:

  • Wear the Ring overnight instead of sleeping in the Watch.
  • Wear the Watch during workouts while the Ring continues background tracking.
  • Want data from both devices combined in Samsung Health.
  • Prefer to charge the Watch during the day and keep a lightweight tracker on overnight.

The Ring does not automatically make a Galaxy Watch unnecessary. A Watch remains the better choice for live pace, GPS, workout controls and features unavailable from the Ring’s limited sensor set. There is also a practical gesture conflict: if Watch gestures are enabled while the Watch is being worn, Ring gestures will not work.

Choose the… If your priority is…
Galaxy Ring Discreet sleep tracking, passive wellness data, low weight and no screen
Galaxy Watch Live workout information, GPS, on-wrist controls, notifications and broader sensors

Galaxy Ring versus Oura and other smart rings

There is no universal best smart ring. The right choice depends first on your phone and then on the software model you are willing to use.

Buying question Why it matters
Does it support your phone? The Galaxy Ring is Android-only. iPhone owners need an alternative with an iOS app.
Is there a subscription? The Galaxy Ring has no separate subscription for its core Ring and Samsung Health tracking. Oura is a subscription-based competitor, while other products may use different paid tiers or feature limits.
How good is the app? The Ring is most appealing if you already use Samsung Health and want your wellness information in that ecosystem.
Do you need a smartwatch companion? Galaxy Watch integration is a major advantage for Samsung owners who want a ring for sleep and a watch for training.
How much battery life do you need? Compare real-world endurance, size-dependent ratings and the charging-case workflow rather than headline claims alone.
How important is platform flexibility? A cross-platform ring may be a better long-term choice if you regularly change between Android and iPhone.
What health features are actually available? Check whether a feature is on the ring itself, phone-assisted, region-limited, subscription-gated or still awaiting regulatory rollout.
What is the long-term availability risk? Samsung’s Ring is currently sold, but Oura has filed a patent complaint that could affect the product’s future in the U.S. depending on the legal outcome.

Oura’s software and sleep-tracking ecosystem remains a relevant comparison, but the Galaxy Ring’s strongest differentiators are Samsung Health integration, Galaxy Watch cooperation and the absence of a separate core-tracking subscription. RingConn, Amazfit and other alternatives may be more relevant to iPhone users or buyers seeking a different battery and software model; compare current compatibility, app support and paid features before deciding.

Galaxy Ring 2: what is actually known?

Samsung did not announce a Galaxy Ring 2 at its July 2026 Unpacked event. The company’s official Unpacked recap did not introduce a second-generation Ring.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A Samsung vice president told TechRadar that a future Ring product would form part of Samsung’s wearable portfolio. That is an indication of future intent, not a formal product announcement.

There is currently no confirmed Galaxy Ring 2:

  • No release date.
  • No price.
  • No confirmed design or size range.
  • No confirmed sensor list.
  • No confirmed battery-life target.
  • No confirmed compatibility changes.

Do not buy or postpone a purchase based on rumored specifications. If you need a ring now, evaluate the first-generation model on its current features and price. If you are specifically waiting for a successor, there is not enough confirmed information to estimate how long the wait will be.

Limitations and ownership caveats

No display and considerable phone dependence

The Ring records data without a screen, but reviewing trends, changing settings and configuring features happen through a phone. You need Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health and a Samsung account. It is not an offline-only tracker, and it is not a standalone smartwatch.

Health data is not a diagnosis

Sleep stages, Energy Score, blood oxygen, skin temperature, heart-rate alerts and cycle predictions can be useful for identifying personal trends. They cannot diagnose illness or replace a clinician. The forthcoming sleep-apnea feature is risk detection for signs of obstructive sleep apnea, not a diagnosis.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Battery complaints require context

Battery life can decline over time, and individual owners may report unusually short endurance. Those reports are worth investigating if you are buying, but public complaints do not establish a widespread defect or failure rate. Samsung’s size-dependent ratings and independent five-to-six-day observations provide a more useful baseline than isolated anecdotes.

Fit and physical work

People who work with heavy tools, hard materials or frequent metal contact face more risk of scratches, impacts and discomfort. The Ring’s water ratings also do not make it immune to physical damage or suitable for every wet or high-heat environment.

Cloud-connected health data

Samsung says Ring health data is transferred to and stored in Samsung Cloud associated with the user’s Samsung account. That makes the product convenient inside Samsung’s ecosystem, but buyers who want an entirely local or offline tracker should account for this cloud-connected design. Review Samsung’s current privacy terms and account settings before enabling health features.

Oura legal dispute

In November 2025, Oura filed an International Trade Commission complaint alleging that Samsung’s Galaxy Ring infringes patents involving the smart-ring form factor, components and manufacturing methods. A related federal case was stayed in February 2026 pending the ITC proceeding. These are allegations, not a final finding that Samsung infringed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The dispute is a long-term availability consideration, but it does not mean that the Galaxy Ring is currently banned. Samsung continues to list and sell it in the U.S. as of August 10, 2026. See Oura’s complaint announcement and the federal case docket for the reported legal status.

Who should buy the Galaxy Ring?

It is a strong choice for

  • Samsung Galaxy owners who dislike sleeping in a watch.
  • People focused on sleep, recovery, steps and passive health trends.
  • Buyers who want core tracking without a recurring Ring subscription.
  • Existing Samsung Health users who want their data in one ecosystem.
  • People who want a discreet wearable without wrist notifications.
  • Users interested in Samsung’s planned sleep-apnea risk-detection update, provided they understand that rollout and regional availability are not yet universal.

It is a weaker choice for

  • iPhone owners.
  • Athletes who need live pace, GPS, heart-rate zones or workout controls.
  • Anyone expecting ECG, blood pressure or body-composition measurements from the Ring.
  • People unwilling to use Samsung Health or create a Samsung account.
  • Buyers seeking the longest possible smart-ring battery life without size or usage qualifications.
  • People whose work involves heavy impacts, hard tools or frequent contact with metal.
  • Buyers who want a mature platform-neutral ecosystem rather than Samsung integration.

Final verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Ring makes the most sense as a comfortable, screenless sleep and wellness tracker for a Samsung Galaxy owner. Its no-subscription core experience, Samsung Health integration and ability to complement a Galaxy Watch are meaningful advantages. The sizing process, charging case and Android-only compatibility are equally important parts of the decision.

It is not a Galaxy Watch in a smaller shape. It has no display, no onboard GPS and no published ECG, blood-pressure or body-composition sensors. Choose the Watch for interactive fitness and broader wearable functionality; choose another ring if you use an iPhone. As for the Galaxy Ring 2, Samsung has acknowledged a future Ring product may be part of its portfolio, but there is no confirmed second-generation model to wait for yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Samsung Galaxy Ring work with iPhone?

No. The Galaxy Ring is an Android-only product and requires Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health and a Samsung account. iPhone users should consider a smart ring with an iOS companion app instead.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the Galaxy Ring require a subscription?

There is no separate subscription for the Ring’s core tracking and Samsung Health experience. Individual partner services, promotions, AI features and regional services may have separate requirements.

Is the Galaxy Ring 2 coming?

Samsung did not announce a Galaxy Ring 2 at its July 2026 Unpacked event. A Samsung executive indicated that a future Ring product is part of the company’s wearable plans, but there is no confirmed name, release date, price or specification list.

Does the Galaxy Ring detect sleep apnea?

Samsung announced that the existing Galaxy Ring is expected to receive an FDA-cleared, over-the-counter sleep-apnea risk-detection feature in fall 2026. As of August 10, 2026, it should be treated as forthcoming and rollout-dependent, not as a feature available to every owner. It is risk detection, not a diagnosis.

Can the Galaxy Ring replace a Galaxy Watch?

Usually not. The Ring is better for discreet overnight and passive tracking, while the Watch provides a display, GPS, live workout data, controls and a broader set of sensors. They are designed to complement each other.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy the Galaxy Ring now if you are a Samsung Galaxy owner who values sleep tracking, discreet wear and no core-data subscription. Choose a Galaxy Watch for live fitness and smartwatch functions, choose an iPhone-compatible competitor if you use iOS, and do not wait for a Galaxy Ring 2 unless you are comfortable waiting without a confirmed launch date or specification sheet.
