Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 or 5: How to Use Blood Pressure Monitoring

Galaxy Watch 5 and 6 can estimate blood pressure through Samsung Health Monitor, but setup requires a compatible Galaxy phone, regional availability, and three-reading upper-arm cuff calibration. Here is the complete setup, measurement, recalibration, and troubleshooting guide.

Yes—the Galaxy Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro, Watch 6, and Watch 6 Classic can use Samsung’s Blood pressure feature where Samsung Health Monitor is available. The current requirements are a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone running Android 12 or later, a watch running Wear OS 4.0 or later, Samsung Health Monitor on the watch and phone, and an automatic upper-arm cuff for calibration.

In the United States, Samsung began a phased rollout on March 31, 2026, and its availability document updated July 13, 2026 lists blood-pressure monitoring for Galaxy Watch4 and later models, including the Watch 5 and Watch 6 generations. Availability can still vary by country, device-purchase region, software version, app rollout, and account configuration, so the feature must actually appear in Samsung Health Monitor on your devices.

The watch does not inflate a cuff or directly measure pressure. It uses optical sensor signals and a calibration model to estimate systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and pulse. Samsung describes the feature as wellness-only. It should not replace a validated upper-arm monitor, clinical diagnosis, or medical advice.

Does the Galaxy Watch 5 or Watch 6 measure blood pressure?

Both generations are eligible for Samsung Health Monitor’s Blood pressure feature in supported regions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Galaxy Watch 5: Supported where Samsung Health Monitor blood-pressure service is available and the watch meets the software requirement.
  • Galaxy Watch 5 Pro: Same general eligibility as the Watch 5.
  • Galaxy Watch 6: Supported where the service is available and the software is current.
  • Galaxy Watch 6 Classic: Same general eligibility as the Watch 6.

Samsung’s current broad eligibility category covers Galaxy Watch4 and later released models, excluding Galaxy Fit. That does not mean every Watch 5 or Watch 6 automatically shows the feature: Samsung also requires Wear OS 4.0 or later, Android 12 or later on the phone, a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone, and a supported country or region.

The Blood pressure feature is separate from ECG, ordinary heart-rate tracking, and a manually entered blood-pressure record in Samsung Health. The Watch 5 and Watch 6 also do not contain a miniature wrist cuff. The watch uses its optical sensor after being calibrated against a separate upper-arm cuff.

Does Galaxy Watch blood pressure work in the United States?

It can, as of 2026. Samsung announced a phased U.S. rollout beginning March 31, 2026. Its country and device availability document, updated July 13, 2026, lists the United States for blood-pressure monitoring on Galaxy Watch4-and-later models.

A U.S.-purchased Watch 5 or Watch 6 paired with a compatible U.S. Samsung Galaxy phone is the least ambiguous configuration. Imported watches and phones can encounter regional restrictions even when the model name is supported. Samsung says Samsung Health Monitor is region-restricted and warns that actions such as a factory reset or reinstall while traveling in a non-supported region can affect availability. If Blood pressure does not appear, check the actual app on your devices rather than assuming the feature has reached every configuration at the same time.

What you need before starting

  • Galaxy Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro, Watch 6, or Watch 6 Classic.
  • Watch software meeting Samsung’s current Wear OS 4.0-or-later requirement.
  • A compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone running Android 12 or later.
  • Galaxy Wearable for pairing and watch software updates.
  • Samsung Health Monitor installed or activated on both the phone and watch.
  • Bluetooth pairing between the watch and the phone.
  • An automatic, properly fitting upper-arm blood-pressure cuff for calibration.
  • A country or region where Samsung Health Monitor blood-pressure service is available.
  • A Samsung Health Monitor user who meets Samsung’s stated age requirement of 22 or older.

Samsung says the official Samsung Health Monitor app is not available on iPhone and is not intended to work on every non-Samsung Android phone. A compatible Samsung Galaxy phone is therefore a practical requirement—not merely any Android device. Check Samsung’s compatibility and requirements guidance if your phone is an imported model or an older Galaxy device.

Choose the calibration cuff carefully

Use an automatic upper-arm cuff, not a wrist cuff, as the calibration reference. The cuff must fit your arm circumference correctly. An inaccurate cuff can pass its errors into the watch’s calibration model, so do not assume that every inexpensive monitor is suitable simply because it displays systolic and diastolic numbers.

For U.S. readers who need dependable home readings, prefer a validated or FDA-authorized upper-arm device and ask a clinician or pharmacist to recommend an appropriate model. The American Heart Association recommends an automatic upper-arm monitor for home monitoring and cautions that cuffless devices should not be used to diagnose or manage high blood pressure.

How to install and activate Samsung Health Monitor

The names can vary slightly by country or software release, but the setup is centered on Samsung Health Monitor, not just the general Samsung Health app.

How to calibrate the Galaxy Watch with a cuff

You must calibrate the watch before taking routine watch-only readings. Samsung’s method uses three cuff readings to create a user- and wrist-specific reference for the optical estimate.

Prepare for calibration

For a meaningful calibration, follow the same quiet measurement conditions you would use for a careful home blood-pressure reading:

  • For at least 30 minutes beforehand, avoid smoking, exercise, bathing, alcohol, and caffeine.
  • Measure indoors in a quiet location.
  • Sit with your back supported, both feet flat on the floor, and legs uncrossed.
  • Rest your forearms and hands on a table.
  • Sit quietly for at least five minutes before starting.
  • Make sure the wrist and arm are dry and free of excessive perspiration or lotion.
  • Wear the watch snugly enough for consistent skin contact, but not painfully tight.
  • Put the watch on the wrist opposite the arm carrying the cuff.
  • Keep the phone within reach.
  • Do not talk or move while the cuff is measuring, and breathe normally rather than deliberately slowing or deepening your breathing.

Complete the three-reading calibration

  1. Place the cuff on one upper arm according to the cuff manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Put the Galaxy Watch on the opposite wrist.
  3. Place the phone on the table where you can reach it without changing posture.
  4. Open Samsung Health Monitor on the phone.
  5. Tap Blood pressure.
  6. Tap Calibrate the watch.
  7. Start the cuff measurement when the app prompts you.
  8. When the cuff finishes, enter its systolic and diastolic values into Samsung Health Monitor exactly as displayed.
  9. Repeat the process two more times.
  10. Finish all three cuff-based measurements within 30 minutes.

The watch and cuff should be on opposite arms; they do not need to be on the same arm. Consistency is the important point: use the same person throughout calibration, keep the watch on the same wrist, and maintain a consistent watch position. Do not average or manually smooth the cuff values unless the app specifically instructs you to do so. Samsung’s current U.S. instructions provide the on-screen calibration workflow.

Samsung’s stated calibration and measurement ranges

Samsung lists a calibration range of approximately 80–170 mmHg systolic and 50–110 mmHg diastolic. Its stated measurement range is approximately 70–180 mmHg systolic and 40–120 mmHg diastolic. These are operating ranges, not healthy or unhealthy targets. If a result is outside the watch’s stated range, confirm it with a proper upper-arm cuff and seek appropriate medical advice.

How to take a blood-pressure reading after calibration

  1. Wear the watch on the same wrist used during calibration.
  2. Sit quietly for at least five minutes with your back supported, feet flat, and legs uncrossed.
  3. Rest the watch arm and forearm on a table.
  4. Keep the wrist in a consistent, comfortable position and the watch sensor in good contact with the skin.
  5. Open Samsung Health Monitor on the watch.
  6. Tap Blood pressure.
  7. Tap Measure.
  8. Tap OK if the app displays a confirmation prompt.
  9. Remain still and silent until the measurement is complete.
  10. Tap Done when prompted.

The watch displays an estimated systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse or heart rate. The cuff is not needed for every routine watch reading, but it remains necessary for the initial calibration and for recalibration.

When to recalibrate the Galaxy Watch

Samsung requires recalibration every 28 days. The app may remind you as the calibration approaches expiration, and you can start earlier by selecting Recalibrate in the Blood pressure section.

Recalibrate sooner if:

  • A different person will use the watch.
  • You move the watch to the opposite wrist.
  • You begin wearing it in a materially different position.
  • The watch reports that calibration has expired.
  • Watch results remain inconsistent with a validated upper-arm cuff.

Calibration belongs to the wearer and the wrist setup, not just to the watch hardware. If the calibration expires, the app may prevent new watch readings until you complete the three-measurement cuff process again.

Where readings are stored, synced, and shared

The watch shows the result immediately after measurement. When Bluetooth is connected, readings sync to Samsung Health Monitor on the same Galaxy phone used for setup and calibration. The phone app can show a blood-pressure history chart and may provide sharing options for a clinician, depending on the current software and region.

If a reading does not appear on the phone:

  1. Confirm Bluetooth is on and the watch is paired through Galaxy Wearable.
  2. Confirm you are checking the same phone used to create the profile and calibrate the watch.
  3. Open Samsung Health Monitor and look for its manual sync option.
  4. Update Samsung Health Monitor, Samsung Health, Galaxy Wearable, and the watch software.
  5. Check that the phone has sufficient free storage.
  6. Restart the phone and watch, then reconnect through Galaxy Wearable if necessary.

On versions that show the option, Samsung’s instructions identify the manual path as More options → Settings → Accessories → Sync data. Moving the watch to a different phone can require setup again, and Samsung’s instructions specifically tie synchronization to the original setup phone.

Troubleshooting: missing features, failed calibration, and errors

Problem Likely cause What to do
There is no Blood pressure option Unsupported region, outdated software, incompatible phone, incomplete activation, or rollout not yet available for that device configuration. Update the watch through Galaxy Wearable and update Samsung Health Monitor. Confirm Android 12+, Wear OS 4+, a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, and regional eligibility. Open Samsung Health Monitor on the watch to trigger setup. Do not confuse Samsung Health with Samsung Health Monitor.
Blood pressure appears, but there is no Measure button Initial calibration is incomplete or the 28-day calibration has expired. Open the Blood pressure section on the phone and complete or repeat Calibrate the watch.
Calibration fails Movement, talking, poor cuff placement, wrong cuff size, unsuitable preparation, incorrect values entered, or the three readings were not completed within 30 minutes. Use a correctly fitting upper-arm cuff, rest for five minutes, avoid the listed 30-minute triggers, keep the watch on the opposite wrist, remain silent, and enter each cuff result exactly.
A watch reading fails or returns an optical-signal error Dirty sensor, lotion, perspiration, cold skin, reduced circulation, loose or overly tight strap, insufficient skin contact, movement, talking, or a tattoo affecting the optical signal. Clean and dry the sensor and skin, warm a cold wrist gently, adjust the strap, support the arm on a table, and repeat while remaining still and silent.
The watch was moved to the other wrist The current calibration no longer matches the measurement wrist. Move it back to the calibrated wrist or recalibrate it on the new wrist with three cuff readings.
The result does not sync Bluetooth or Galaxy Wearable pairing problem, wrong phone, outdated app, or insufficient phone storage. Reconnect through Galaxy Wearable, check Bluetooth and storage, update both devices, and use the app’s manual sync option where available.

Samsung’s detailed Blood pressure instructions describe optical-signal problems and positioning remedies. The exact troubleshooting labels can differ between regional releases.

How accurate is Galaxy Watch blood-pressure monitoring?

The key distinction is between a cuff measurement and a watch estimate. During calibration, the upper-arm cuff supplies reference values. Between calibrations, the watch uses optical photoplethysmography and pulse-wave-related signals to estimate blood pressure. Calibration anchors the algorithm to your readings at that time; it does not turn the watch into a miniature sphygmomanometer or guarantee cuff-equivalent accuracy in every situation.

A 2026 prospective validation study using a Galaxy Watch 5 reported small average differences against a validated Omron reference device under the study’s defined protocol. That is useful evidence that the technology may support trend estimation in controlled conditions, but it is not a universal accuracy guarantee. The study used a Galaxy Watch 5, not necessarily every Watch 6 variant or the exact software configuration used in every country, and it does not establish accuracy for every user, illness, circulation pattern, or measurement condition. See the PubMed record and the full study for its protocol and limitations.

Samsung labels the function as wellness or informational use, not as a device for diagnosing, treating, preventing, or managing a medical condition. The U.S. announcement should not be converted into a claim that the Galaxy Watch Blood pressure feature is “FDA-approved,” “FDA-cleared,” or “medical-grade.” The FDA warns against unauthorized blood-pressure measurement devices when accurate medical readings are needed.

When to use an upper-arm cuff instead

Use a validated upper-arm cuff rather than relying on the watch when you need to:

  • Confirm an unusually high or low watch result.
  • Diagnose or monitor hypertension.
  • Evaluate whether medication is working.
  • Make a medication or dosage decision.
  • Monitor blood pressure during pregnancy.
  • Manage known heart, kidney, diabetes, vascular, circulation, or rhythm conditions.
  • Measure a result outside Samsung’s stated operating range.

Samsung’s detailed regional instructions list pregnancy and several cardiovascular, renal, diabetic, neurological, clotting, circulation, and arrhythmia-related conditions as situations in which the feature should not be used. Because medical labeling can vary by country and software release, read the current Samsung Health Monitor instructions for your region and ask your clinician whether the feature is appropriate for you.

Never change or stop medication because of a Galaxy Watch result. If a watch reading seems abnormal, rest and repeat it, then confirm it with a validated upper-arm cuff.

What to do about a very high reading

For a blood-pressure result above 180/120 mmHg, the American Heart Association advises waiting at least one minute and measuring again with an appropriate monitor. A Galaxy Watch result at or beyond this boundary should be confirmed with a proper cuff rather than treated as definitive.

If the repeated result remains above 180/120 without symptoms, contact a healthcare professional immediately. If it remains that high and you have symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain, numbness, weakness, vision changes, or difficulty speaking, call 911 in the United States or your local emergency number. A single watch result cannot diagnose hypertension, but a potentially dangerous reading should not be dismissed as an app error.

Galaxy Watch 5 vs. Watch 6 for blood pressure

The core blood-pressure workflow is effectively the same on the eligible Watch 5 and Watch 6 models: Samsung Health Monitor, an upper-arm cuff for calibration, three readings within 30 minutes, recalibration every 28 days, and careful posture for each watch reading.

There is no basis here to claim that the Watch 6 is automatically more accurate than the Watch 5. Choose between them based on the overall watch—condition, price, display, battery, design, features, and software support—not because one should be treated as a superior blood-pressure instrument. Both are estimates that require calibration and should be confirmed with a proper cuff when the result matters medically.

Remember: The watch estimates blood pressure from optical signals. It is a wellness tool, not a diagnosis and not a replacement for a validated upper-arm cuff.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to use a blood-pressure cuff every time I use the Galaxy Watch?

No. After the initial three-reading calibration, routine readings can be taken from Samsung Health Monitor on the watch. However, Samsung requires recalibration every 28 days and sooner if the wearer or wrist changes, or if results seem inconsistent.

Why is Blood pressure missing from my Galaxy Watch 5 or Watch 6?

Check that the watch runs Wear OS 4.0 or later, the paired Samsung Galaxy phone runs Android 12 or later, Samsung Health Monitor is installed and activated on both devices, and the service is available in your region. Imported devices, incomplete rollouts, and unsupported phones can also prevent the feature from appearing.

Can Galaxy Watch blood pressure replace a home blood-pressure monitor?

No. The watch estimates pressure using optical signals after cuff calibration. Use a validated automatic upper-arm cuff for diagnosis, medication decisions, pregnancy-related monitoring, known cardiovascular or kidney conditions, and confirmation of unusual readings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can another person use my calibrated Galaxy Watch for blood pressure?

Not without recalibration. The calibration is specific to the wearer and wrist setup. A different person should complete the three-reading calibration process before using the feature.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 6 models support blood-pressure monitoring in eligible regions, including the United States under Samsung’s 2026 rollout. Install Samsung Health Monitor, pair a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, calibrate the watch with three upper-arm cuff readings within 30 minutes, and recalibrate every 28 days. Treat each watch result as a wellness estimate—not a medical diagnosis—and confirm important or abnormal readings with a validated upper-arm cuff.
