Samsung announced the watch on June 13 and confirmed U.S. Bluetooth availability from June 24, with U.S. list prices of $199.99 for Bluetooth and $249.99 for LTE. The launch is now historical: Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. MSRP file marked the FE models EOL, so those figures are not a promise of current availability or a 2026 selling price.
What the leak got right
A European retailer listing reported the Galaxy Watch FE at €199 and showed June 24, 2024 as its shipping or release date. That was a stronger signal than an unattributed social post, but a retailer listing was not official confirmation. Samsung’s June 13 announcement confirmed the product and said U.S. Bluetooth availability would begin June 24. The price and date leak was therefore substantially accurate, though availability dates and prices varied by market and model. 9to5Google reported the retailer listing; Samsung confirmed the U.S. launch details.
“Early” referred to Samsung’s 2024 product cycle: the FE went on sale ahead of the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra announcements in July, rather than launching alongside them. SamMobile’s pre-launch coverage placed the reported date in that context.
Price and timing: leak versus confirmed U.S. MSRP
| Market or event | Price or date | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Europe, retailer listing | €199 | Leaked listing price, not Samsung’s U.S. MSRP |
| United States, 40mm Bluetooth | $199.99 | Samsung MSRP; model family SM-R861 |
| United States, 40mm LTE | $249.99 | Samsung MSRP; model family SM-R866 |
| Samsung announcement | June 13, 2024 | Official announcement |
| U.S. Bluetooth availability | Beginning June 24, 2024 | Confirmed by Samsung |
The U.S. list prices appear in Samsung’s December 2024 MSRP file. The €199 European listing should not be converted directly into dollars: regional prices reflect different taxes and market pricing, and the U.S. LTE version cost more than Bluetooth. Promotions, trade-ins, bundles and carrier offers can also change what a buyer pays; they are not the same as MSRP.

What the Galaxy Watch FE offered
Samsung positioned the Fan Edition as a lower-priced entry to its smartwatch and health ecosystem, with Wear OS Powered by Samsung, Samsung Health integration, sleep tracking and coaching, heart-rate monitoring, workout tracking and body-composition analysis. The watch came in one case size, 40mm, with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE connectivity options. Samsung’s announcement describes its health and wellness focus: Samsung’s global Galaxy Watch FE announcement.

How close was it to a Galaxy Watch 4?
The FE was based heavily on the Galaxy Watch 4 platform. Its Exynos W920 processor and 1.5GB RAM/16GB storage configuration were characteristic of that older generation, which explains why the lower price came with older core hardware rather than a clean-sheet flagship design. Pre-launch reporting made the Watch 4 comparison; TechRadar’s overview also discussed the platform relationship.

“A rebranded Watch 4” is too absolute: Samsung marketed a Fan Edition product, and the FE included a sapphire-crystal cover and updated software support. The available specifications establish a close platform relationship, not that every component was identical.

Basic pairing was not limited to Samsung phones: Samsung’s regional compatibility information specifies Android 11 or later and at least 1.5GB of phone RAM. That baseline does not guarantee access to every health feature. Samsung Health Monitor functions are restricted to compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones in the cited regional documentation, and availability can depend on market and regulatory approval. Body-composition functionality is listed for the Galaxy Watch 4 series and later models. What the lower price meant for buyers
The FE made sense for
- Buyers whose priority was entering Samsung’s Wear OS and Samsung Health ecosystem at a lower list price.
- People who wanted a compact 40mm watch and were comfortable with its older internal platform.
- Samsung Galaxy phone owners who could use the health features they wanted.
- Buyers who wanted Bluetooth connectivity, or had a specific use for LTE and had checked carrier costs.
A newer watch or another category was a better fit for
- Shoppers who wanted the newest Samsung hardware, a larger case choice, or premium rotating-bezel hardware.
- People prioritizing battery endurance: the 247mAh capacity alone cannot establish real-world runtime, and the FE was not the obvious choice for buyers seeking multi-day endurance.
- Buyers who found a Galaxy Watch 6 or newer model at a similar current sale price. Compare actual prices, not just original list prices; Samsung’s Galaxy Watch6 page and Galaxy Watch7 page are product references, not guarantees of current stock or price.
- iPhone owners, people seeking a simpler fitness tracker, or shoppers who require broad phone compatibility and longer battery life. The FE is an Android smartwatch, not an iPhone-compatible alternative.
Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. MSRP record marked the FE models EOL while retaining the historical list-price figures, so the 2024 MSRP should not drive a 2026 purchase decision by itself. Check present availability and the actual price before comparing it with newer watches.
