In the U.S., it keeps the original Ultra’s 47 mm titanium case, 590 mAh battery class, Exynos W1000 processor, dual-frequency GPS, LTE connectivity, ruggedness ratings, display, and core sensor platform. The meaningful hardware changes are a storage increase from 32 GB to 64 GB and a new Titanium Blue finish. It also launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch, but Samsung brought the major One UI 8 Watch update to the 2024 Ultra as well.
That makes the 2025 model the better choice for a new buyer when prices are close, especially if you want more local storage or Titanium Blue. For most owners of the 2024 Ultra, however, upgrading is difficult to justify unless the trade-in offer is unusually strong.

Samsung’s U.S. launch information lists the 2025 Ultra at the same $649.99 starting price as the 2024 model’s U.S. launch price. Actual store prices, trade-in values, promotions, inventory, and carrier offers can change, so the launch MSRP should not be confused with the price available when you shop.
What is new on the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025)?
1. Storage doubles from 32 GB to 64 GB
The 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra has 64 GB of storage, compared with 32 GB on the original 2024 Ultra. This is the most practical hardware change between the two versions.

What it does not do is make the watch inherently faster. Storage capacity does not change the processor, battery rating, display, GPS system, or published health-sensor capabilities. It is a capacity upgrade rather than a performance-generation upgrade.
2. Titanium Blue joins the finish options
Samsung added Titanium Blue to the 2025 U.S. Galaxy Watch Ultra range. The original U.S. model launched in Titanium Gray, Titanium White, and Titanium Silver; the 2025 listings retain those finish families while adding the blue option.
Titanium Blue may be enough to settle the decision for someone who wants a different look, but it does not indicate a new case design or a change in durability. The watch remains a large, 47 mm titanium model with a sapphire crystal display.

3. The 2025 watch launched with newer software
The 2025 model arrived with Wear OS 6 powered by Samsung and One UI 8 Watch. That gives it the newest software generation out of the box.
The distinction is less important for 2024 owners than it initially sounds. Samsung announced the One UI 8 Watch update for the existing Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 22, 2025. The update includes features such as:
- Running Coach
- Vascular Load
- Antioxidant Index
- Multi-Info Tiles
- Now Bar interface features
Update timing and individual feature support can vary by market, paired smartphone, and other compatibility conditions. Still, the update substantially narrows the software difference between the two Ultras. Software alone is therefore not a strong reason for most 2024 owners to replace their watch.
What stays the same?
Same Exynos W1000 processor
Samsung’s technical materials identify the original Ultra as using the Exynos W1000, a five-core processor manufactured on a 3 nm process. Samsung’s 2025 comparison materials list the same Exynos W1000 platform for the new Ultra.

There is no official evidence in the supplied specifications of a new processor generation for 2025. Do not buy the newer model expecting a major jump in app speed, responsiveness, or efficiency based on the processor alone.
Same battery class and physical dimensions
The 2024 Ultra measures approximately 47.4 × 47.1 × 12.1 mm and uses a 590 mAh battery. Samsung’s 2025 materials do not identify a larger battery or a thinner case.
Samsung continues to advertise up to 100 hours in power-saving mode and up to 48 additional hours through exercise power-saving mode. These are manufacturer claims under specified power-saving and usage conditions, not independent endurance results. Real battery life will depend on GPS use, LTE, workouts, screen settings, health monitoring, notifications, and the selected power mode.

The 2025 model should not be described as a redesigned rugged watch. Its outdoor positioning and published durability class remain fundamentally the same as the original Ultra.
Same display and core sensor platform
The launch materials do not identify a meaningful change to the display size, resolution, or sensor system. Both models use an approximately 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display protected by sapphire crystal and Samsung’s BioActive Sensor platform.
The sensor package also includes temperature, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic, and light sensors. Samsung’s 2025 specification table additionally lists a 3D Hall sensor for the Ultra. However, Samsung does not present that listing as a major new user-facing capability, so it should not be treated as a headline upgrade without more model-specific documentation.

Does the 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra have better battery life?
There is no documented battery-capacity increase from the 2024 model. Both belong to the same 590 mAh battery class, and Samsung’s published endurance claims remain in the same general range.

Is the 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra faster?
Not according to the published processor specifications. Both models use the Exynos W1000 five-core 3 nm platform. The 64 GB version gives you more room for local content, but it does not by itself provide a faster processor or a new graphics platform.
U.S. pricing and release dates
The original Galaxy Watch Ultra became generally available in the United States on July 24, 2024, with a $649.99 retail starting price. Samsung’s 2025 U.S. launch materials listed the refreshed Ultra at $649.99, with general availability beginning July 25, 2025.
At the time of purchase, compare the complete transaction rather than only the sticker price. A discounted 2024 Ultra may be the better value if the price difference is substantial. Conversely, a small price gap favors the 2025 model because it provides double the storage and a newer finish without a higher listed launch price.
For shoppers ready to compare current availability: Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) is the model to look for when you want the 64 GB version or Titanium Blue. The final buying decision should account for live pricing, trade-in credit, seller reputation, and return policy.
Should 2024 owners upgrade?
Usually, no. The 2024 Ultra already has the core hardware that defines this product: the 47 mm titanium body, 590 mAh battery class, Exynos W1000 processor, dual-frequency GPS, LTE, ruggedness ratings, display, and sensor platform. Once One UI 8 Watch is available on the original model, the software difference is also much smaller.

An upgrade can make sense in three situations:
- You need more local storage. If 32 GB is limiting your music, maps, apps, or downloaded content, 64 GB is a tangible improvement.
- You specifically want Titanium Blue. This is a legitimate preference, but it is cosmetic rather than functional.
- Your trade-in or resale math is unusually favorable. A large credit can reduce the cost enough to make the storage and finish changes worthwhile.
If none of those applies, keep the 2024 Ultra and install the available software updates. Replacing it is unlikely to deliver a noticeably different processor, battery, display, GPS experience, or ruggedness experience.

Use this simple rule:
- Choose the 2025 Ultra when the prices are close, you want 64 GB, Titanium Blue matters, or you prefer buying the newer release.
- Choose the 2024 Ultra when it is substantially discounted and you do not need extra storage or the new finish.
Both versions are aimed at the same buyer: someone who wants a large, rugged Samsung smartwatch with LTE, long claimed battery endurance, advanced workout tracking, and dual-frequency GPS. The 2025 model does not expand that audience through a new processor or a redesigned case.
Band compatibility: an important difference to check
Samsung uses a dynamic-lug band system for the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Its Ultra-specific Marine, Trail, and PeakForm bands are designed for the Ultra and should be selected as Ultra-compatible accessories.
Do not assume that an ordinary Galaxy Watch7 band will fit. Samsung identifies the Watch7 and Ultra band systems as different, and Ultra bands are not compatible with other Galaxy Watch models. Before ordering a replacement, check that the product is explicitly marked for the Galaxy Watch Ultra rather than merely described as a Samsung Galaxy Watch band.
For owners who need a different strap for swimming, trail activity, or everyday wear, a Galaxy Watch Ultra replacement band is the relevant accessory category. The Marine, Trail, and PeakForm families are the Ultra-specific options documented in Samsung’s accessory information.
What about LTE?
Both the 2024 and 2025 Ultra support LTE connectivity, but an LTE-capable watch does not automatically include cellular service. Standalone use may require activation through a compatible carrier, an eligible wireless plan, and potentially additional fees.

Carrier compatibility, activation charges, monthly pricing, supported phone pairings, and promotions vary by carrier and can change. Verify those details directly before buying an LTE model or switching from a Bluetooth-only setup.
What if you are considering the Galaxy Watch Ultra2?
Samsung has announced a Galaxy Watch Ultra2 for 2026, which is outside this 2024-versus-2025 comparison. It matters only as buying context for readers shopping after that announcement: Samsung lists the Ultra2 with a different Snapdragon Wear platform, an 800 mAh battery, a brighter display, and a $699.99 U.S. price.

That later model is a materially different successor. Its existence does not change the central conclusion here: the 2025 Ultra is a storage-and-finish refresh of the 2024 Ultra, not the generation in which Samsung introduced a new processor or a substantially larger battery.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) improves the original in two clear ways: it doubles storage to 64 GB and adds Titanium Blue. It also starts with newer software, although the 2024 Ultra receives the major One UI 8 Watch update.
Everything that makes the Ultra an Ultra is largely unchanged: the 47 mm titanium case, 590 mAh battery class, Exynos W1000 processor, dual-frequency GPS, LTE, ruggedness claims, display, and core sensors. Buy the 2025 model if you are new to the line and the price is close, or if storage and color matter. Upgrade from the 2024 model only for those specific benefits or an exceptionally good trade-in deal.
