The original Ultra launched at $649.99 in the United States, so Ultra2 starts $50 higher before discounts, trade-in credits, carrier offers, or regional pricing differences.
What changed from the first Galaxy Watch Ultra?
1. A much larger battery
The most concrete hardware change is the battery. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has an 800 mAh battery, compared with 590 mAh in the original Ultra. That is a capacity increase of roughly 36%, although capacity alone does not determine actual runtime. Screen settings, GPS use, LTE connectivity, sensors, temperature, exercise tracking, and software behavior all affect endurance.
Samsung states that Ultra2 can provide up to 60 hours with the always-on display enabled. It also says the watch can reach up to 40% charge in approximately 30 minutes. These are useful manufacturer-stated targets, not independent battery-test results. Buyers should not interpret them as a guarantee of 60 hours in every training or LTE scenario.
The practical benefit is likely to be more flexibility: fewer charging interruptions, more reserve for long GPS activities, and less anxiety when heading away from a charger. That makes the battery upgrade more meaningful for hikers, cyclists, runners, and travelers than for someone who already charges the first Ultra comfortably every night.

Ultra2 uses a 1.52-inch display rated up to 5,000 nits. Samsung lists the first Ultra’s display as 1.47 inches with a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. The newer watch therefore offers a modest increase in viewing area and a higher claimed brightness ceiling.
That specification should be especially relevant when checking maps, workout metrics, or notifications outdoors. Still, peak brightness is not the same as guaranteed brightness in every mode or proof of a specific improvement under direct sunlight. Real visibility also depends on automatic brightness behavior, reflections, watch angle, software, and the user’s surroundings. Independent testing would be needed to quantify the difference.

3. Snapdragon Wear Elite and more on-device intelligence
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. Qualcomm describes the platform as designed for high-performance wearable processing, sensor fusion, and on-device personal-AI workloads. Samsung presents it as the foundation for faster interactions and more personalized health guidance.
The safe takeaway is that Ultra2 adopts a newer platform intended to improve performance and enable more local intelligence. There is not enough evidence in the supplied specifications to claim a particular benchmark gain, faster app-launch percentage, or guaranteed improvement in battery life. Those conclusions should wait for independent testing.

4. More extensive durability and diving credentials
Samsung lists Ultra2 with IP69K, 10 ATM, and MIL-STD-810H ratings, plus EN13319 certification. The original Ultra is listed with 10 ATM, IP68, and MIL-STD-810H ratings, but the supplied comparison does not list EN13319 certification for that model.
Samsung describes EN13319 as a diving-instrument standard. Its Depth app can show current depth, water temperature, and elapsed dive time down to 40 meters (130 feet). That gives Ultra2 a clearer diving-oriented position than the original model.
This does not make the watch a replacement for professional dive equipment, dive planning, certification, or training. Water resistance ratings also do not mean that every water activity is risk-free, and users should follow Samsung’s operating limitations and accepted diving practices. The 40-meter figure should be understood as Samsung’s stated Depth app capability, not as a universal guarantee for every dive condition.
