Here are seven features worth testing—and the limitations that matter before you rely on them.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch7 is most useful when you treat it as a daily tool rather than just a notification screen. Its strongest features combine sleep and wellness insights, route tracking, structured workouts, hands-free controls, and integration with compatible Galaxy phones.
There are two sizes: 40mm and 44mm. Both use a 3nm five-core processor, a Super AMOLED display, sapphire crystal, 32GB of storage, enhanced BioActive Sensor hardware, and dual-frequency GPS using L1 and L5 signals. They are also rated 5ATM, IP68, and MIL-STD-810H for water and durability resistance. The features below are the ones worth trying after setup—but health features are wellness tools, not substitutes for medical care.
1. Start each day with Energy Score
Energy Score turns several days of Samsung Health data into a personalized daily score and guidance. Samsung says it considers information such as sleep, blood oxygen, snoring time, skin temperature, and heart rate. You can review the score, its contributing factors, and daily or weekly trends in Samsung Health.

The practical value is not the number by itself. It is the explanation around the number: you may see that a short night, disrupted sleep, or unusual recovery data is influencing the day. That can help you decide whether to schedule a hard workout, take an easier day, or simply pay closer attention to how you feel.
How to try Energy Score
- Open Samsung Health on the connected phone.
- Select Energy score.
- Complete the permissions and health-interest setup.
- Wear the watch consistently, including overnight.
Do not expect a useful result immediately. Samsung’s guidance indicates that the score becomes more meaningful after several days of accumulated data, including sleep data. It is a planning and wellness aid—not a clinical measurement or a guarantee that you are ready for a particular workout.
2. Track sleep—and use Sleep Apnea carefully
Galaxy Watch7 can record sleep-related information including sleep duration and blood oxygen, and it supports Samsung’s Sleep Apnea Feature in markets and configurations where the feature is available. In the United States, the FDA-authorized over-the-counter software feature is intended to detect signs of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults aged 22 or older who have not already been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
In the supported US setup, the feature requires two qualifying nights of monitoring within a 10-day period. Wear the watch to bed on two nights that meet the Samsung Health Monitor requirements, then review the result in the app.

The FDA documentation warns that the feature can miss cases and cannot detect central sleep apnea. It should not replace professional diagnosis or treatment. The feature also has important exclusions and warnings involving people with a previous sleep-apnea diagnosis and certain cardiac, pulmonary, movement-related, pregnancy, or temporary-illness situations. If you are concerned about your sleep or breathing, discuss it with a qualified healthcare professional rather than relying on a watch result.
Availability varies by market, carrier, watch model, paired phone, and software. Samsung’s 2025 availability information lists the United States among supported markets and describes compatibility with supported Galaxy Watch models running Wear OS 5.0 or later when paired with a compatible Galaxy smartphone. Check the current Samsung Health Monitor requirements in your region before relying on this feature.

3. Test dual-frequency GPS in a city
Galaxy Watch7 introduced dual-frequency GPS, using both L1 and L5 signals. Samsung positions it as a way to improve location precision, particularly in dense urban areas where tall buildings can reflect or obstruct satellite signals.
This is a feature worth testing on a familiar route rather than simply enabling and forgetting. Start an outdoor walking, running, or cycling workout in an area with tall buildings, then compare the recorded path with the route you actually followed or with a phone-based map.
That comparison is a practical user test, not a controlled accuracy benchmark. GPS performance still depends on the environment, satellite visibility, software, movement, and the route itself. Dual-frequency positioning can reduce some urban tracking problems, but it does not promise a perfectly drawn line in every street canyon.
4. Make workouts more structured with Race and cycling FTP
Samsung says Watch7 can track more than 100 workouts. For runners, the standout option is Race, which lets you compare your current effort with a previous performance in real time. The watch also supports multi-sport workout tracking and highlights an AI-powered four-minute cycling Functional Threshold Power (FTP) assessment.
Try Race on a repeatable route
Choose a familiar running route and use Race against a previous effort. The live comparison can make an ordinary run more purposeful: instead of watching pace in isolation, you can see whether you are ahead of or behind a prior performance.
For the comparison to be useful, keep the route, pacing strategy, workout settings, and sensor setup reasonably consistent. A different GPS path, a pause at a crossing, a different effort level, or unreliable sensor contact can make the comparison misleading.

Try FTP if you cycle with compatible equipment
Cyclists can explore the FTP assessment through the cycling workout tools, particularly if their setup includes a compatible power meter. FTP estimates are useful for creating repeatable training zones, but a short watch-based assessment is not the same thing as a laboratory test or a coach’s complete evaluation. Treat it as a practical training reference and look for trends rather than false precision.
5. Check Body Composition and the AGEs Index as trends
The Watch7’s BioActive Sensor supports body-composition measurements using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The watch uses fingertip contact with the sensor and Samsung Health provides on-screen instructions for positioning and measurement.
Samsung also introduced an AGEs Index feature intended to provide an indication related to metabolic health and biological aging. Both tools may be interesting for people who want additional wellness trends, but neither should be treated as a definitive medical, nutritional, or biological-age assessment.
How to get more consistent readings
- Open the Body composition tool in Samsung Health and follow its posture and contact instructions.
- Use similar conditions each time—ideally a similar time of day and before comparing results.
- Pay attention to longer-term direction rather than reacting to one reading.
- Remember that contact, hydration, timing, skin condition, movement, and device or market support can affect results.
The same caution applies to the AGEs Index: it is an estimate or indication, not a diagnosis. Do not make health decisions based solely on a watch reading, and consult a professional when a result concerns you.
6. Control the watch with gestures
Gesture controls are among the most immediately practical Watch7 features because they solve a specific everyday problem: sometimes your hands are occupied, wet, dirty, gloved, or moving during exercise.
Samsung includes several gestures:
- Double pinch: answer calls, dismiss alarms, launch apps, control music, and take photos in supported situations.
- Shake to dismiss: decline calls or dismiss alerts.
- Knock knock: launch an app or feature.
How to enable gestures
On the watch, open Settings > Buttons and gestures, then enable the gestures you want to use. Start with Double pinch and test it with an incoming call or alarm before relying on it while cooking, carrying something, or exercising.

Some gesture functions require a compatible Galaxy phone and Samsung Health Monitor software. If a gesture does not behave as expected, check the paired phone, software version, permissions, and regional availability before assuming the watch is faulty.
7. Try Galaxy AI communication and connected-device features
Watch7 fits most naturally into Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem. Depending on the phone, software, account, apps, and region, connected features can include Energy Score, message Suggested replies, communication assistance, Samsung Wallet, and control or interaction with other Galaxy devices.
Test Suggested replies
- Pair the watch with a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone.
- Turn on notification and messaging permissions for the apps you use.
- Open an incoming message on the watch.
- Choose a Suggested reply when one is offered.
Samsung specifically documents Suggested replies as requiring a Samsung phone running One UI 6.1.1 or later. The suggestions are convenient for short responses, but they are not a replacement for composing a detailed message when context matters.
Samsung Wallet and other connected-device functions can also vary by country, phone, carrier, account, app, and software version. Think of Watch7 as a particularly capable companion to a compatible Galaxy phone, not as a device with identical functionality across every Android handset.

It requires Android, not an iPhone
Samsung lists Android phones running Android 11 or later as compatible, although individual features have additional requirements. Galaxy Watch7 is not compatible with iPhones because newer Wear OS Galaxy watches depend on Google Play services.
A Samsung phone is required for some features
Basic smartwatch functions may work with a compatible Android phone, but Galaxy AI features and some health-monitoring tools require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, Samsung Health, Samsung Health Monitor, a Samsung Account, and specified app or software versions. Functionality can vary by region, carrier, model, and update.

*These are US manufacturer’s suggested retail prices listed in the supplied June 2026 sheet, not a guarantee of the current selling price. Retail pricing and availability change. The 40mm and 44mm versions also differ in battery capacity, and LTE service may involve separate carrier requirements.
If you want to personalize or replace the strap, check that a Galaxy Watch7 replacement band matches the watch size you own; 40mm and 44mm accessories should not be treated as interchangeable without confirming compatibility.
Which features should you try first?
Start with Energy Score, sleep tracking, gestures, and workout tools. They require little or no extra hardware and quickly show whether Watch7 fits your routine. Test dual-frequency GPS on a familiar urban route if accurate-looking maps matter to you.
Try Body Composition, the AGEs Index, and Sleep Apnea only after reading the setup requirements and limitations. They can add useful context, but they are the features most likely to be misunderstood if a wellness estimate is treated as a medical conclusion.

Finally, Galaxy AI and connected-device features are most compelling if you already use a recent Samsung Galaxy phone. For other Android users, the watch may still offer strong workouts, sleep tracking, notifications, and GPS, but the full Galaxy experience is not guaranteed.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Galaxy Watch7 requires a compatible Android phone, and Samsung’s newer Wear OS Galaxy watches are not compatible with iPhones. Samsung lists Android 11 or later, but some features require a Samsung Galaxy phone.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 work with an iPhone?
No. Where supported, it is intended to detect signs of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in specified adults, but it can miss cases, cannot detect central sleep apnea, and does not replace professional diagnosis or treatment.
Is Galaxy Watch7’s Sleep Apnea Feature a diagnosis?
Samsung indicates that Energy Score becomes more useful after several days of accumulated data, including sleep. Wear the watch consistently and review the contributing factors rather than treating the score as a definitive readiness measurement.
How long does Energy Score take to become useful?
The main physical differences are size and battery capacity. The 40mm version has a 300mAh battery, while the 44mm version has a 425mAh battery. Confirm strap compatibility because bands may be size-specific.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Galaxy Watch7’s best features are the ones that turn routine data into useful action: Energy Score for planning, sleep tracking for patterns, Race and GPS for training, and gestures for quick hands-free control. Use its health measurements as carefully qualified wellness information, and check phone, software, and regional compatibility before expecting every feature to work.
