Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch8 in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes and the Galaxy Watch8 Classic in 46 mm on July 9, 2025; general availability began July 25 in select markets. The official models use the Exynos W1000 five-core 3 nm processor, Wear OS 6 with One UI 8 Watch, and Super AMOLED displays—not the rumored microLED. The Classic adds a rotating bezel and Quick Button, while the standard Watch8 is lighter and comes in two sizes.

Samsung specifies Bluetooth 5.3, 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, NFC, sapphire crystal and WPC-based wireless fast charging. L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS is listed; LTE applies to LTE variants. Samsung lists 5ATM, IP68 and MIL-STD-810H durability ratings, but those ratings should not be read as a guarantee of suitability for every condition.
What the pre-launch leaks got right—and wrong
Leaks made different claims, so the verdict depends on which report is being compared. A July 7, 2025 Cinco Días report anticipated the Exynos W1000, memory and storage split, Super AMOLED panels, battery capacities and peak brightness; Samsung’s final materials confirmed those core hardware predictions. Other pre-launch predictions were notably off.

| Pre-launch prediction | Official result | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Classic would be 47 mm | Samsung lists a 46 mm Classic | Incorrect case size |
| Classic display would be 1.5 inches | 1.34-inch Super AMOLED, 438 × 438 | Incorrect |
| Classic battery would be 435 mAh | 445 mAh typical capacity | Close, but incorrect |
| Base Watch8 might use microLED | Samsung specifies Super AMOLED | Incorrect |

Samsung’s 2025 announcement says the display reaches up to 3,000 nits and is up to 50% brighter than previous Galaxy Watches. These are Samsung’s peak-brightness claims, not a guarantee of brightness in every condition. Samsung’s launch announcement and specification table are the authority for shipping specifications; the Tom’s Guide pre-launch preview and Cinco Días leak report provide examples of earlier predictions.
Choosing between the Watch8 and Watch8 Classic
Compare fit and weight first: Samsung lists the 40 mm Watch8 at 30.0 g, the 44 mm at 34.0 g and the 46 mm Classic at 63.5 g. The Classic is the choice for a physical rotating bezel, Quick Button and 64 GB storage; the standard Watch8 offers a lighter case and two size options. The Classic’s higher battery capacity does not, by itself, establish longer real-world runtime.
Samsung UK describes the standard Watch8 as using Armour Aluminium and the Classic as using stainless steel. Materials and availability wording can vary by market, so check the product information for your region.

Battery capacity is not a runtime test
Samsung lists typical battery capacities of 325 mAh for the 40 mm Watch8, 435 mAh for the 44 mm Watch8 and 445 mAh for the Classic. Capacity figures describe the batteries, not tested hours of use. Samsung cautions that actual battery life varies with use, model, network and other factors; the research for this article did not establish independent runtime-test results.
Software, health features and compatibility
The Watch8 family launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. Samsung highlighted bedtime guidance, vascular load, Running Coach and Antioxidant Index. Feature availability may depend on market, carrier and paired device. Samsung says health-related information is for general wellness and fitness, not medical advice or for detection, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring or management of disease.
Samsung lists Android 12.0 or later and more than 1.5 GB of memory as compatibility requirements. Activation also requires a smartphone that supports Google Mobile Services. Check Samsung’s regional product information and the intended phone’s compatibility before buying, particularly if you rely on a specific feature.

LTE, charging and accessories
LTE is available only on LTE models. The presence of LTE hardware does not itself provide cellular service: activation and carrier support are required. Confirm availability and plan requirements for the exact model and region.
Samsung’s charging notes name its Galaxy Watch Magnetic Fast Charging USB-C Cable, model EP-OL300, and state that its 25 W USB-C adapter is sold separately. Do not assume that a charger, band or other accessory is included or interchangeable; verify compatibility with the exact generation and case size.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBottom line
The confirmed Watch8 family comprises the standard Galaxy Watch8 in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes and the Galaxy Watch8 Classic in 46 mm. The leaks were right about important hardware in some reports, but predictions of a 47 mm Classic, a 1.5-inch Classic screen and a microLED base model did not match Samsung’s official specifications.
