But a growing number of owners report dramatic battery decline, charging failures and difficult replacement outcomes—making long-term ownership a legitimate risk.
What Galaxy Ring owners are reporting
Samsung-hosted reviews and Samsung Community posts describe Rings that reportedly fell from roughly five to seven days of use to about a day, began requiring multiple charges daily, or stopped working after around nine to thirteen months. Some owners also describe replacement Rings developing similar symptoms and uncertainty over whether a replacement receives a new warranty period.
These are customer reports, not a controlled failure study. They do not establish how common the problem is, whether it affects a particular batch, size, colour or firmware version, or whether Samsung has identified a manufacturing defect. The evidence supports an emerging reliability and support concern—not a claim that every Galaxy Ring will fail.

Why battery deterioration matters more in a smart ring
A battery complaint is inconvenient in any wearable, but the Galaxy Ring’s value depends on continuous wear. It is intended to track activity, heart rate, sleep and other health information with minimal interruption. A Ring that lasts only hours or a single day can create gaps in overnight data, temperature measurements, recovery trends and activity records.
The problem can also be easy to miss. A Ring may remain connected to the phone while intermittently failing to record or sync data. By the time the owner notices missing sleep information or a sharply reduced runtime, the return window may have passed.
A smartwatch can be more forgiving because it offers a screen, notifications, workout controls and other standalone functions. The Ring has no display and few independent functions beyond sensing and tracking. When its battery becomes unreliable, its central purpose is compromised.
Normal ageing, a faulty unit or a wider design problem?
Several explanations can produce similar symptoms:
- Normal lithium-ion ageing: rechargeable batteries lose capacity over time, although a severe decline after only months would be concerning.
- An individual defective unit: a damaged cell, charging circuit or other component can fail independently of the wider product line.
- A charging problem: dirty contacts, a faulty case, cable or power source can make a healthy Ring appear defective.
- A software or connection problem: firmware, app or syncing issues can increase drain or make tracking appear to stop.
- A systemic hardware issue: repeated failures across unrelated units could eventually point to a component or design problem, but the available reports do not prove that conclusion.
- A support-policy problem: even if failures are isolated, unclear warranty handling or expensive replacement can make ownership feel unreasonable.
At present, the strongest defensible conclusion is that the Galaxy Ring faces a recurring complaint pattern and a potentially difficult service experience. There is no evidence here establishing a quantified failure rate, formal recall or Samsung admission of a defective battery.

Samsung’s support material covers charging failures, battery behaviour, unusual warmth, connection problems, updates and resetting. Its recommended process is useful for separating a charging or software fault from a likely hardware failure.
Start with the charging hardware
- Seat the Ring correctly in its charging cradle.
- Clean and dry the Ring’s charging contacts and the cradle.
- Confirm that the charging case itself has power.
- Try another compatible cable and power source.
- Allow the Ring to charge fully before judging its runtime.
Samsung says some warmth can occur during features that use more power, but persistent or abnormal heat deserves attention. If the Ring becomes unusually hot, swells, emits an odour or shows physical damage, stop using it and contact Samsung rather than continuing to charge it.

Check the app and software
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app and confirm that the Ring is connected.
- Install any available Ring or app updates.
- Open Samsung Health and allow data to sync.
- Record screenshots of battery level, error messages and missing data.
- If ordinary troubleshooting fails, use the app’s Reset control.
Sync Samsung Health before resetting. Samsung warns that unsynced information may be affected by a reset. A reset may correct a software or connection problem, but it cannot restore physical battery capacity lost through ageing or a defective cell.

Samsung says pairing the Galaxy Ring with a Galaxy Watch can extend Ring battery life by up to 30%. Samsung also says the Ring can resume tracking when the Watch battery is depleted. That arrangement may reduce duplicated sensing and improve continuity for people who already own a compatible Watch.
It should not be mistaken for a solution to a failing Ring. If runtime has collapsed from several days to hours, pairing another device may mask the symptoms without fixing the underlying hardware. It also means the buyer is relying on a second wearable to preserve the experience.

When troubleshooting should end
Ask Samsung for service when the Ring:
- has fallen from several days of use to hours or approximately one day;
- will not charge after the contacts, case, cable and power source have been checked;
- repeatedly disconnects or stops collecting health data;
- reports a battery or hardware error;
- becomes persistently hot, swells, smells unusual or shows physical damage; or
- is replaced and develops the same symptoms again.
Do not open the Ring yourself. Its small, sealed construction makes battery replacement unsafe and may compromise water resistance.

The warranty and repair problem
The financial risk is not limited to battery ageing. A smart ring’s compact sealed construction makes component-level battery repair difficult for consumers. In practice, a service centre may need to replace the entire Ring rather than install a new battery.
On the US purchase page reviewed in August 2026, Samsung listed the Galaxy Ring at $399.99 and Samsung Care+ at $49 for two years. Samsung describes Care+ as covering accidental damage and mechanical breakdowns, with mail-in repair or replacement. Whether reduced battery capacity qualifies as a covered mechanical failure depends on the policy terms and the case assessment.
Before buying protection, check the current terms for your country and ask specifically:
- Does ordinary battery degradation qualify, or only a complete hardware failure?
- Will Samsung repair the Ring or replace the whole device?
- Is there a service fee or deductible?
- Does a replacement receive a new warranty period?
- Does coverage follow the original purchase date?
- What happens after the Care+ term ends?
Some owners say Samsung treated a replacement as continuing under the original purchase timeline rather than granting a fresh full warranty. That is an anecdotal report, not a universal rule. Warranty rights vary by country, retailer, purchase channel and local consumer-protection law, so do not assume that a US outcome applies elsewhere.
Keep the original order confirmation, serial number, battery screenshots, Samsung Health gaps, error messages, diagnostic results, support case numbers and shipping records. This documentation is especially important when a failure occurs near the warranty boundary or when a replacement later develops the same fault.

The real calculation is not just the sticker price: total ownership cost equals purchase price, protection or replacement risk, the value of lost health data and ecosystem lock-in.

Alternatives worth considering
RingConn Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air
RingConn lists the Gen 2 at $299 with advertised battery life of up to 12 days, and the Gen 2 Air at $199 with advertised battery life of up to 10 days. Both are positioned as subscription-free products. Those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified long-term results.
They may suit buyers seeking a lower upfront price and no recurring fee, but they do not offer Samsung’s native Watch and Samsung Health integration. A lower price and longer advertised runtime also do not prove superior reliability.

Oura Ring
Oura has a more established sleep and wellness platform, but its membership model adds an ongoing cost. Check the current price, membership terms, warranty and availability for your country before comparing total ownership cost. It is a poor fit for buyers whose main goal is avoiding recurring fees.
Ultrahuman Ring AIR
Ultrahuman positions the Ring AIR as subscription-free. Availability, pricing, battery claims and after-sales support vary by market and should be verified before purchase. It is not a Samsung Health replacement for buyers who specifically want Samsung’s ecosystem.
Galaxy Watch instead of Galaxy Ring
A Galaxy Watch offers a screen, notifications, workout controls and broader standalone functionality. It may also be a more practical primary tracker for Samsung users who value serviceability and visible battery information. The trade-off is a bulkier device for overnight wear and potentially more frequent charging, depending on the model and usage.
Bottom line
The Galaxy Ring is not proven to contain a defective battery, and the available reports cannot tell us the true failure rate. But the combination of repeated owner complaints, uncertain replacement experiences and limited repairability creates a real long-term ownership concern.
Buy only with a clear return window, verified compatibility and a written understanding of warranty or Care+ coverage. If uninterrupted health data, maximum battery longevity or easy repair matters more than Samsung ecosystem integration, compare the alternatives—or choose a Galaxy Watch—before committing $399.99 to a sealed wearable whose battery may be difficult to replace.
