The Wear OS 5-based update was offered to the Galaxy Watch6, Watch5 and Watch4 families, plus Galaxy Watch FE—but it arrived in stages, so the announcement did not mean every eligible watch could install it immediately. In 2026, this is a historical release, not a new rollout.
Which Galaxy Watches are eligible?
Samsung’s eligible list covered these models. Availability could still vary by market, carrier, model and paired phone.
| Watch | Eligible? | Rollout context |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic | Yes | Samsung said the rollout would begin with the Watch6 series. |
| Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro | Yes | Availability could differ between Bluetooth and LTE versions. |
| Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic | Yes | These older Wear OS models were included. |
| Galaxy Watch FE | Yes | Included in Samsung’s eligible-model announcement. |
| Galaxy Watch7 and 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra | Not part of the older-model rollout | They were the newer generation associated with the software experience and features Samsung brought to earlier watches. |
| Galaxy Watch3 and earlier | No | These models use Tizen rather than the Wear OS update path. Samsung says its Wear OS Galaxy watches begin with Watch4. Samsung’s compatibility guide. |
Samsung described One UI 6 Watch as based on Wear OS 5 and said selected experiences from the Watch7 and Ultra would extend to older models—not that every new-watch feature would be identical. Samsung’s eligible-model and rollout announcement.
Why did the rollout seem delayed?
Samsung announced the broader rollout on November 19, 2024, after staged availability. Its global announcement said the Watch6 series would go first, with older models following sequentially; country, carrier, model and paired-phone differences could affect timing. A beta or announcement was not proof that stable firmware was available for a particular watch.

Samsung Canada had described October 2024 as the expected timing for Bluetooth versions of the Watch4, Watch5 and Watch6 families, and November for LTE versions. Those were regional expectations, not universal release dates. LTE models may take longer because carrier approval can affect firmware distribution. Samsung Canada’s rollout notice.
What One UI 6 Watch adds
Energy Score and sleep insights
Energy Score combines signals including sleep, daily activity, sleeping heart rate and sleeping heart-rate variability into a general wellness score. Samsung Health must have compatible watch data synchronized; Samsung says Energy Score supports Galaxy Watch4 or later, excluding Galaxy Fit3. It is a wellness metric, not a diagnosis. Samsung Health compatibility information.
The update also adds sleep analysis details such as movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate. These are software and analysis changes; an update does not add sensors that the watch did not have. Samsung’s feature overview.

Sleep Apnea Feature: specific eligibility and limits
Samsung’s Sleep Apnea Feature is intended to identify potential signs of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea; it does not diagnose the condition. The U.S. instructions specify a Galaxy Watch4 or newer running Wear OS 5.0 or later, a phone running Android 12 or later, Samsung Health Monitor, regional availability and a user aged 22 or older. The protocol requires sleep data from two nights within a 10-day period, with about four hours of sleep per night for a result.
- A positive result should prompt consultation with a clinician.
- A negative result cannot rule out every case of sleep apnea.
- Do not change medication or treatment based on the feature.
Samsung describes the feature as FDA De Novo authorized; that does not mean the watch as a whole is FDA-approved. Check the applicable instructions and local availability before relying on it. Samsung Health Monitor U.S. instructions.
Race and Workout Routine
Race compares outdoor running or cycling performance on a previously generated route. For a comparison, the start location must match, and the historical comparison can cover up to 14 days. Samsung says a route deviation greater than 10% can trigger an automatic switch to running mode.

Workout Routine lets you combine exercises into a custom sequence for a goal or training plan. These features and their conditions are described in Samsung’s feature announcement.
Watch faces, Suggested replies and Double Pinch
Samsung highlighted the Simple Digital and Ultra Info Board watch faces. The update does not guarantee that every face or visual element looks or behaves identically on every generation.
AI-powered Suggested replies require a compatible Galaxy smartphone; they are not a universal feature for every Android phone. Double Pinch can handle selected actions such as answering calls, dismissing alarms and taking photos, but it is off by default and requires setup on the watch or in Galaxy Wearable. Samsung specifies pairing with a Galaxy phone running One UI 6.1.1 or later. Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch feature details.

How to install the update
From Galaxy Wearable
- Charge the watch and keep it near the connected phone.
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the Android phone.
- Open Watch settings (some app versions show Settings).
- Tap About watch.
- Tap Update watch software.
- Choose Update now or Download updates manually, then follow the prompts and let the watch restart.
Labels vary by generation and app version; older interfaces may use “About Gear” or “Update Gear software.” Samsung notes that the watch disconnects during installation and recommends checking for app updates when the firmware update is complete. Samsung’s update troubleshooting guide.
From the watch
On the watch, open Settings → Software update → Download and install. Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the update is not offered
- Check the exact model under Settings → About watch, and confirm whether it is Bluetooth or LTE.
- Update Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health, and check that the phone has internet access.
- Restart both devices, keep the watch charged, then check again later; staged distribution can mean an eligible device is not offered firmware immediately.
- Consider the watch’s sales region, current carrier and model number, especially for an imported or LTE device.
- Avoid installing firmware from another region unless you understand the risks and have a legitimate technical reason.
Basic Wear OS Galaxy Watch setup requirements are an Android 6.0-or-later phone with at least 1.5 GB of RAM and Google Mobile Services, but meeting those requirements does not make every One UI 6 Watch feature available. Individual functions can require newer Android or Samsung software, a Galaxy phone, Samsung Health Monitor, an account, or regional support. Samsung’s phone compatibility guidance.

Should you update or buy a newer watch?
If an eligible watch is working normally, installing the update is the sensible first step: it brings Samsung’s selected software features without requiring a new purchase. Buying a newer model makes more sense when the reason is hardware—such as a worn battery, damage, newer sensors, display, durability or performance—or access to software that older hardware cannot support. One UI 6 Watch cannot add sensors or increase a watch’s battery capacity, and it is not equivalent to a Watch7 or Ultra.
Do not assume the update improves battery life. A major software update can change battery behavior; update apps and observe performance over several charge cycles before deciding whether there is a lasting problem. Samsung’s post-update troubleshooting guidance covers battery and other issues.
For a non-Samsung Android phone, check the requirements of the particular feature you want before upgrading or buying: basic watch compatibility is broader than compatibility for Samsung health and AI functions. Anyone considering the Sleep Apnea Feature should first verify local availability and its phone, watch-software, age and Samsung Health Monitor requirements.
