The SSC923 is the more compact of the three by case diameter and lug-to-lug measurement; the SPB433 has the longest stated power reserve and is limited to 3,500 pieces.
At a glance: what separates the three watches?
| Model | Movement and function | Case measurements | Water resistance | Notable details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SRPK43 | Automatic 4R36; day/date; approximately 41-hour power reserve | 45.0 mm diameter; 13.2 mm thick; 47.7 mm lug-to-lug | 200 m / 660 ft diver’s | Ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal with magnifier, bracelet; 22 mm lug width |

| SPB433 | Automatic 6R35; date; approximately 70-hour power reserve | 45.0 mm diameter; 13.4 mm thick; 52.6 mm lug-to-lug | 200 m / 660 ft diver’s | Ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, bracelet; limited edition of 3,500; 20 mm lug spacing |
Figures above are from Seiko’s model information: SRPK43, SSC923, and SPB433. Case measurements can help narrow a fit shortlist, but they do not establish how a watch will feel on a particular wrist.
How do the movements differ?
SRPK43 and SPB433: automatic divers
Both use mechanical automatic movements that wind with wrist motion and can also be wound manually. Seiko states approximately 41 hours of power reserve for the SRPK43’s 4R36 and approximately 70 hours for the SPB433’s 6R35. Each has 24 jewels; the SRPK43 displays day and date, while the SPB433 displays the date. The reserve figures describe how long a fully wound watch can run off the wrist; they are not a ranking of overall accuracy or performance.
SSC923: solar chronograph
The SSC923 uses Seiko caliber V192 and is solar-powered, not automatic. Seiko states approximately six months of operation when fully charged and precision of ±15 seconds per month. Its chronograph times up to 60 minutes in 1/5-second increments, and a power-reserve indicator shows its charge status. This is the choice in the trio for someone who wants stopwatch timing and a solar operating system rather than a mechanical diver.

Which one is likely to fit your wrist best?
By the published dimensions, the SSC923 is the smallest across and shortest lug-to-lug. Both divers have a 45.0 mm diameter, but the SPB433’s 52.6 mm lug-to-lug measurement is notably longer than the SRPK43’s 47.7 mm. The SSC923 measures 41.4 mm across and 45.9 mm lug-to-lug. Thickness ranges from 13.0 mm on the SSC923 to 13.4 mm on the SPB433.
- Consider the SSC923 first if a smaller diameter and shorter lug-to-lug are priorities.
- Compare the divers in person if you prefer their 45 mm cases; the SRPK43 has the shorter lug-to-lug of the two.
- Check strap or bracelet fit carefully: Seiko lists 22 mm lug width for the SRPK43, 21 mm for the SSC923, and 20 mm for the SPB433.
These numbers are screening measurements, not a guarantee of comfort. Wrist shape, strap or bracelet adjustment, and personal preference all affect fit.

Water resistance and intended use
Seiko specifies 200 m / 660 ft diver’s water resistance for both the SRPK43 and SPB433. The SSC923 is specified at 10 bar. Those are the manufacturer’s stated ratings; the SSC923 is presented as a chronograph, not as a diver’s watch. For any water use, follow Seiko’s guidance for the specific model and ensure the watch is in suitable condition, including properly secured crowns and pushers where applicable.
Design, materials, and the Black Series concept
The three references share a dark aesthetic associated with Seiko’s Black Series and its “night vision” concept, but the layouts make them distinct: the SRPK43 and SPB433 have diver-style bezels, while the SSC923 has the subdials and timing controls of a chronograph. Seiko describes green LumiBrite Pro on the SRPK43’s hands and indexes; its earlier Black Series brochure presents the broader night-vision design theme. That is Seiko’s design and product framing, not an independent comparative test of visibility in darkness.

For materials and construction, Seiko lists a stainless-steel case with hard coating, ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal with magnifier, and bracelet for the SRPK43. The SPB433 has a ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, and bracelet. The SSC923 uses curved sapphire crystal and a nylon band. Seiko’s product descriptions do not establish which model is more legible or durable in real-world use.
Does the SPB433 limited edition status matter?
Seiko’s Germany-region product page identifies the SPB433 as a limited edition of 3,500 pieces. That makes edition status a straightforward point of distinction if you value a numbered production limit or specifically want this reference. It does not establish future resale value or guarantee that the watch will be difficult to find. The page’s regional context also means any price shown there should not be treated as universal.

Which Seiko Black Series Prospex should you choose?
- Choose the SRPK43 if you want an automatic diver-style watch with day/date, a 200 m diver’s rating, and a shorter lug-to-lug measurement than the SPB433.
- Choose the SSC923 if you want solar power, chronograph timing, and the smallest case measurements in this group rather than an automatic diver.
- Choose the SPB433 if you want an automatic diver-style watch with the stated 70-hour reserve and the appeal of a 3,500-piece limited edition, and its 52.6 mm lug-to-lug suits your wrist.
Seiko USA’s Spring 2024 announcement listed the SSC923 at $750 and said it would be available at select retailers. Those are launch-era details, not a current price or stock check; confirm present availability, regional pricing, seller, and exact reference before buying.
