What watch does “Field Tuna” refer to?
The best-supported candidate is the Seiko Prospex Solar Land Fieldmaster LOWERCASE Special Edition, reference SBDJ027. A Reddit post from July 2024 identifies its pictured watch that way and uses “Tuna” as a nickname. That is a community identification, not manufacturer confirmation, so it cannot establish that SBDJ027 is the watch meant by every use of “Fieldmaster” or “Field Tuna.” See the July 2024 post.
Seiko’s design discussion describes “Tuna Can” as a fan-created nickname for a protected-case diver-watch design whose shape and outer protector suggest a tuna can. What makes the Fieldmaster a distinct Seiko line?
Seiko says the Fieldmaster was first released in 1984 as a survival watch. Its defining idea was functional modularity rather than simply a rugged-looking case: the original design paired a fixed analog watch module with add-on modules, including a compass. What is known—and not verified—about SBDJ027?
The July 2024 Reddit post reports that its SBDJ027 has a solar movement, countdown bezel, 24-hour markers, screw-down crown and 200 m water resistance. Those are user-reported details, not specifications independently confirmed by a Seiko product page in the sources available for this article. No official SBDJ027 specification page or current listing was verified, so treat the post as a lead for identifying the watch rather than definitive documentation.
