What makes the SJE087 the champagne-dial KSK?
Seiko identifies the SJE087 as a modern re-creation of the second King Seiko KSK series, created in 1965. The angular case, flat dial, broad faceted indexes and sharply edged hands carry forward the design language Seiko associates with that series. Its defining visual change is the champagne-silver dial, paired with gold-colored hands and markers.
In its hands-on account, Monochrome Watches describes the dial as sunray-brushed champagne and the strap as dark brown crocodile leather. The earlier silver-themed SJE083 is a useful visual comparison: the champagne finish and gold details are the clearest differences, rather than a different case concept.
How does the modern watch differ from the 1965 original?
The SJE087 is a contemporary re-creation, not a mechanically identical vintage KSK. The original was time-only; the modern watch adds a date display. Monochrome identifies the original movement as caliber 44A, while Seiko specifies modern caliber 6L35 in the SJE087. The current model also has boxed sapphire crystal and a super-hard-coated stainless-steel case, both contemporary specifications.

Seiko says the angular case and high functionality were defining traits of the 1965 second KSK series. Its product description presents the modern version as bringing the original back “in every detail” while specifically noting the champagne silver dial and gold-color hands and hour markers. That is a design description, not a claim that the modern watch duplicates the vintage movement or construction.

These technical figures are from Seiko’s SJE087 product specifications. Monochrome reports a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and describes the movement as in-house. Seiko’s stated accuracy is a specification, not a guarantee that an individual watch will maintain that rate in every wearing condition.

Case shape, finishing and wrist fit
The 38.1 mm diameter is only one part of the fit picture. Seiko lists 44.7 mm lug-to-lug and 11.4 mm thickness, dimensions that help readers compare the watch with a familiar piece or their wrist. A 20 mm lug width is relevant if considering another strap, though it does not by itself establish that any particular replacement will fit or suit the watch.
Seiko describes angular lugs with broad flat planes and Zaratsu polishing. It also presents the inner anti-reflective coating as a legibility feature and the super-hard coating as scratch protection. These are manufacturer descriptions; they are not independent durability or glare tests. Monochrome’s visual account provides the separate observation of the champagne sunray dial and gold-colored faceted details.

Edition size, release and listed price
Seiko states that the SJE087 was released from July 2022 through selected Seiko boutiques and retail partners worldwide, as a 1,700-piece limited edition. The figure describes the production limit, not how many watches remain available or how scarce they are on the resale market.
At the time reflected by the product pages, Seiko’s US listing displayed USD 3,300, while Seiko Boutique Europe listed EUR 3,300 for the SJE087J1. These are regional, page-specific listed prices, not estimates of current resale value; boutique availability can change. For any specific alternative beyond the SJE083 visual comparison, verify its specifications independently rather than assuming related King Seiko references share the same dimensions or movement.
