Seiko’s modern hybrid divers connect to its 1982 Hybrid Diver’s 150M, but the current references are not all the same watch. The SNJ025 uses the solar H851 movement; the newer SNJ033P1, SNJ035P1 and SNJ037P1 use solar H855. That distinction matters because the H855 manual documents dive-log and depth functions that should not be assumed for the SNJ025.
What is a Seiko Arnie watch?
“Arnie” is the popular nickname for Seiko’s large analog-digital diver-style watches associated with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Seiko’s official history gives the lineage a clear starting point: in 1982, it introduced what the company calls “The world’s first Hybrid Diver’s 150M, with an alarm and chronograph.” Seiko also notes that the original had a bilingual display. The modern Prospex references continue the analog-plus-digital format, but the nickname does not identify a single movement or specification set. In particular, the SNJ025 is an H851 model, while SNJ033P1, SNJ035P1 and SNJ037P1 are H855 models in Seiko’s 2022 catalog.
Is the Seiko Arnie a hybrid watch?
Yes. “Hybrid” here means that the watch combines conventional analog hands with a digital display. The format dates back to Seiko’s 1982 Hybrid Diver’s 150M, which Seiko describes as having an alarm and chronograph. The later Prospex models carry that mixed display into a diver’s-watch design.

What is the difference between the SNJ025 and SNJ035?
The key difference is the movement generation and the case-and-strap configuration. Seiko’s product page identifies the SNJ025 as an H851 solar watch; its 2022 catalog identifies the SNJ035P1 as an H855 solar watch. They also differ slightly in listed diameter.

The SNJ025 figures come from Seiko’s official SNJ025 product page; SNJ035P1 details come from Seiko’s 2022 Prospex H855 catalog. These official specifications establish that the SNJ035P1 is 0.9 mm smaller in stated diameter, not that it will necessarily wear smaller: shape, strap, wrist size and personal fit also matter. The available specifications do not provide a complete like-for-like function comparison between the H851 SNJ025 and H855 SNJ035P1.

Which H855 hybrid diver variants did Seiko list?
Seiko’s 2022 Prospex catalog lists three H855 solar references, each with a 46.9 mm case diameter and 200 m diver’s water resistance. Their materials and edition status differ:

The 4,000-piece figure describes the cataloged edition size; it does not establish whether the SNJ037P1 is currently available. The catalog is dated 2022, so it should not be treated as a live inventory or regional availability listing.

What does the Seiko H855 do?
H855 is the movement used in the SNJ033P1, SNJ035P1 and SNJ037P1 references listed in Seiko’s 2022 catalog. Seiko’s operating instructions cover functions including stopwatch, light and dive logging. Consult the manual for the exact operating steps and limitations for a particular watch: Seiko H855 operating instructions.
Power reserve depends on use
Seiko estimates approximately five months of operation after a full charge only under the manual’s stated usage assumptions. Those assumptions include daily stopwatch, light and alarm use, plus a defined number of dive logs per year. Treat that figure as a conditional manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed runtime for every wearer or usage pattern.

Depth readings have a freshwater limitation
The manual says the H855 depth calculation is based on seawater specific gravity and warns that freshwater use can cause errors in the depth measurement. It should therefore not be described as an all-water precision depth instrument.

What to check before choosing one
- Confirm the full reference. SNJ025 means H851; the SNJ033P1, SNJ035P1 and SNJ037P1 catalog entries are H855.
- Match the materials to your preference. The H855 variants differ in bracelet, strap and case materials, while the catalog lists the SNJ037P1 as coated steel.
- Read the water-resistance wording for the exact model. The SNJ025 page states 200 m / 660 ft diver’s water resistance; the 2022 catalog states 200 m diver’s water resistance for the three H855 references.
- Do not infer current price or stock from a catalog. Seiko’s cited materials establish specifications and, for SNJ037P1, the stated edition size; they do not establish current sales status.
