Seiko announced the Presage Classic Series on March 7, 2024, with five debut watches: SPB463, SPB465, SPB467, SPB469, and SPB471. The collection pairs textile-inspired curved dials with two automatic-watch layouts: three hands and a date, or an open-heart display with a 24-hour scale. The launch details below are historical; the series has since gained other models.

What were the five debut watches?

Seiko introduced the Presage Classic Series as a new expression of the Presage line, which the company says it introduced in 2016. The March 2024 release framed the collection around traditional Japanese colors, materials, and textures, combined with Seiko mechanical watchmaking. Its five original references were:

  • SPB463
  • SPB465
  • SPB467
  • SPB469
  • SPB471

These are the debut models, not the complete current Classic Series range. Seiko’s U.S. collection page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists SPB463, SPB467, SPB469, and SPB471 alongside newer models; it does not list SPB465, and a collection listing does not establish retailer stock. How do the two movement and display configurations differ?

The key functional distinction is between a conventional three-hand watch with a date and an open-heart design with a 24-hour scale. Seiko’s March 7, 2024 announcement gives the following specifications for both groups:

The opening on the 6R5J models shows part of the movement at 9 o’clock; Seiko describes it as an opening onto the escapement. The power reserve is three days as stated by the manufacturer, not an independent test result. All prices in the table are original U.S. recommended prices announced in 2024, not current offers. Seiko’s March 7, 2024 U.S. launch announcement says specifications and prices are subject to change.

What inspired the dials and colors?

Seiko says the three-hand/date dials take their texture from lustrous silk, while the open-heart dials use a radial pattern intended to evoke raw silk yarn. The company describes the dials as curved and finely patterned so they catch ambient light, with curved hands and indexes that follow the dial’s shape. This is the manufacturer’s design intent, rather than an independent assessment of the finish.

The launch release named four traditional colors:

  • Shiro-iro: the color of unbleached natural fabric. Two debut watches have shiro-iro dials.
  • Sensaicha: a dark brownish green that Seiko says was fashionable during the Edo Period.
  • Araigaki: a washed and bleached persimmon color.
  • Sumi-iro: a greyish black originally used in garments worn by monks.

The announcement does not establish a complete color-to-reference mapping, so these names should not be used to infer the dial color of every individual reference.

What case and bracelet specifications did Seiko publish?

Seiko listed the same core case and resistance specifications for the three-hand/date and open-heart groups. These are manufacturer-published figures from the 2024 announcement, not independent test results.

Specification Published detail
Case diameter 40.2 mm
Case thickness 13.0 mm
Case and bracelet Stainless steel with super-hard coating
Crystal Dual-curved sapphire with anti-reflective coating
Case back See-through screw case back
Water resistance 10 bar
Magnetic resistance 4,800 A/m
Clasp Deployment clasp with push-button release

The softly curved case surfaces and dual-curved crystal are designed to follow the domed dial. Seiko also says the multi-row bracelet takes inspiration from 1970s designs and that its short, ergonomically shaped links reduce contact points around the wrist. That is the company’s comfort rationale, not a claim established by independent wear testing.

What did the watches cost at launch?

In its U.S. announcement on March 7, 2024, Seiko recommended prices of $950 for SPB465, $995 for SPB463 and SPB467, and $1,200 for SPB469 and SPB471. The company said the five watches would be available from June 2024 at select Seiko retail partners nationwide. Those figures and dates describe the original U.S. launch, not current pricing, stock, or availability. Seiko’s current U.S. collection page lists prices that differ from the 2024 launch recommendations; check the brand or a retailer for present-day details.
