The Prospex Speedtimer SRQ047 is the Seiko panda chronograph you can document in full today: an automatic mechanical chronograph that Seiko released on 21 November 2023, with a panda-style dial and design cues it ties to a 1972 Speedtimer. The Power Design Project HHK001P (white dial) and HHK002P (pink dial) are newer. Seiko announced them on 7 October 2026 for a planned release on 7 November 2026, in limited worldwide quantities. They should be read as announced models, not products you can buy now. The comparison is also lopsided: Seiko’s announcement for the new pair does not publish a full specification sheet, so most of the technical rows below read “not stated” for the HHK watches.
Prospex Speedtimer SRQ047: a documented chronograph
Seiko’s 2023 release presents the SRQ047 as a re-interpretation of a celebrated 1972 Speedtimer. The heritage cues it names are the panda-style dial, the orange-tipped chronograph seconds hand, the flowing case and the multi-row bracelet. In Seiko’s words:
“The flowing case design, multi-row bracelet, and highly legible panda-style dial with an orange-tipped chronograph seconds hand are all design cues inherited from the 1972 creation.” (Seiko Watch Corporation, 21 November 2023)
Movement and chronograph layout
The SRQ047 runs on the automatic Caliber 8R48, which Seiko says is hand-assembled. Seiko presents its vertical clutch and column wheel as mechanisms that support precision and reliability, and it notes that MEMS technology is used in the escapement. These are Seiko’s own descriptions of its engineering; the release does not report independent test results, and this article does not add any.

- Item shape: Round
- Power source type: Solar Powered
- Clasp type: Push Button Deployment Clasp
Functionally, the chronograph uses a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and the date window sits between 4 and 5 o’clock. The power reserve and jewel count are listed in the comparison table below.
Case, crystal and water resistance
Seiko describes the case and bracelet as stainless steel with a super-hard coating, and the crystal as dual-curved sapphire with an inner anti-reflective coating. The case back is a screw-down design. Water resistance and magnetic resistance are stated as well; the full figures appear in the table.

Power Design Project HHK001P and HHK002P: what has been announced
Seiko Online Store’s announcement dated 7 October 2026 introduces the pair as panda watches from the Power Design Project. HHK001P has the white dial and HHK002P the pink dial. The announcement sets a planned release date of 7 November 2026, which is about four weeks after this article was written. It gives worldwide limited quantities of 3,000 for HHK001P and 2,000 for HHK002P, and a Japanese recommended retail price of ¥83,600 for each. Those quantities and that price describe the announcement; they are not a report of current stock or of prices in other markets. The full announcement is at Seiko Online Store’s Power Design Project panda announcement.
What the Power Design Project is meant to do
Seiko presents the Power Design Project as a venue for playful, surprising, fresh and unconventional design grounded in the company’s archive and design history. That framing matters for these two watches: they are positioned as design objects with a limited run, and the program’s stated intent is experimental. The program’s official page is Seiko’s Power Design Project page.

What the announcement does not yet settle
The announcement does not give the movement, dimensions, case material, water resistance or chronograph function of HHK001P or HHK002P. It describes them as panda watches, not as chronographs, so whether either model has a chronograph function is not established. Do not assume the HHK watches share the SRQ047’s Caliber 8R48, case size or specifications, and do not carry over figures from earlier Power Design Project releases. Until Seiko publishes a full specification sheet, the technical comparison is one-sided.

Reading the comparison
On movement and function, only the SRQ047 can be assessed against Seiko’s published data. Any statement that the HHK watches are more or less capable than the SRQ047 would be a guess.
On design, the two watches share a panda concept but come from different starting points. The SRQ047 is framed as a heritage reinterpretation of a 1972 model. The HHK pair is framed as part of an experimental program, with a dial-colour split and limited runs.
Best Value
- This sports watch inherits the name "SPEEDTIMER," a symbol of Seiko's chronograph development history in the 1960s, and embodies Seiko's DNA for "precise timekeeping." A new product has been released that expresses the worldview of classic motorsports.
- Band width: 21.0 millimeters
- Watch movement type: Japanese Automatic
- Case diameter: 41.4 millimeters
- Item shape: Round
On price, the two figures come from different regions, years and currencies. C$3,395 and ¥83,600 cannot be compared directly without a current exchange rate and a current price check, and neither figure should be read as a universal price today.
On size, the SRQ047’s 42.0 mm diameter and 14.6 mm thickness are the only dimensions available. Do not estimate how the HHK watches will wear until Seiko publishes their dimensions.
Which one fits your situation
- If you want a documented, purchasable panda chronograph now, the SRQ047 is the only option with a complete published specification. Check Seiko’s regional site for its current price and stock, because the 2023 Canadian price is not a current figure.
- If the limited-run design of the HHK pair matters more than the specification, wait for Seiko’s full specification sheet and the release details on 7 November 2026 before deciding.
- If you are choosing between the two HHK colourways, the announcement separates them by dial colour (white for HHK001P, pink for HHK002P) and by quantity (3,000 versus 2,000 worldwide). Nothing else is established yet.
- If chronograph function is a requirement, the SRQ047 meets it on Seiko’s stated specifications; the HHK pair has not been confirmed to have one.
Where to buy
An authorized Seiko retailer or a Seiko boutique is the practical route for either watch. Seiko’s own store is the channel that published the HHK announcement, so it is the place to confirm release timing and allocation for the Power Design Project pair. For the SRQ047, Seiko’s U.S. Speedtimer lineup page at Seiko’s Speedtimer product page shows the current range and is a good starting point to confirm which versions are listed in your region.
The SRQ047’s 2023 release is the source for its 1972 design cues and its specifications: Seiko’s SRQ047 release.
