Fratello Watches reported that Seiko made 7,000 pieces of each. Both use a 38.5 mm stainless-steel case and the automatic 4R35 movement; the choice comes down to dial character, date-window contrast and how that case size suits your wrist.
What distinguishes the Matcha and Hojicha?
Both watches draw on tea-based cocktails from Kyoto’s Star Bar. In Fratello Watches’ November 2020 hands-on article, writer Jorg Weppelink describes the Matcha as inspired by a Matcha cocktail and tea ingredients, and the Hojicha by the smoky character of roasted green tea and its namesake cocktail. The models were reported as limited editions of 7,000 pieces per reference.

These are subjective impressions from Weppelink’s article, not a claim that one dial is objectively better. If you prefer a date window that recedes into a darker dial, the Matcha’s black ring is the more discreet treatment. If you like stronger contrast and a warmer palette, the Hojicha makes those choices more prominent.
Shared specifications
Fratello’s specification table gives the pair the same core dimensions and movement. These model-specific figures are reported by that 2020 article; the historical Seiko page it linked is not available in the accessible record.

How the 38.5 mm case may wear
The listed 38.5 mm diameter and 45.4 mm lug-to-lug provide more useful context than diameter alone when assessing fit. Weppelink said the 38.5 mm case was near the limit of his own preference and that he preferred the 40.5 mm size of some other Cocktail Time models. That is one wearer’s impression, not a universal fit verdict; wrist shape and personal preference matter, and the figures do not establish how the watch will sit on every wrist.
Limited edition, price and naming
Fratello reported a 2020 list price of €490 per watch. That is a launch-era figure, not a current asking price or a guide to present-day value. Current stock and market prices are not established here, so check the exact reference with a seller before relying on a listing.

The article uses SRPF041 and SRPF043 in its title and body, while its specifications give the full J1 references. The canonical references to use when searching are SRPF41J1 for Matcha and SRPF43J1 for Hojicha. The 0 in the article’s SRPF041/SRPF043 styling can lead to confusion; these are not the later SRPE41 and SRPE43.
That distinction matters because Seiko’s official Cocktail Time page covers later SRPE designs associated with Negroni, Old Clock and Mojito cocktails, not these tea-inspired limited editions: Seiko Presage Cocktail Time. Seiko’s 2022 brochure separately lists SRPJ13J1, SRPJ15J1 and SRPJ17J1, a subsequent group with 39.5 mm cases: Seiko 2022 catalog. Do not apply those later models’ specifications or cocktail descriptions to the SRPF pair.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Matcha if you want the green dial, silver-colored details and a date display that is less conspicuous against the dial.
- Choose the Hojicha if you prefer a brown-and-gold palette, more pronounced dial contrast and a white date disc.
- Check fit before buying if 38.5 mm sounds small or large for you; the reported 45.4 mm lug-to-lug is also worth comparing with a watch you already wear.
- Verify the reference and condition in any current listing: SRPF41J1 and SRPF43J1 identify this pair, while SRPE references belong to later designs.
Weppelink’s overall value judgment was explicitly personal: he wrote, “I would say that Seiko is bang on when it comes to the price vs. quality ratio.” It reflects his assessment in 2020, alongside the then-reported €490 list price, rather than a current market evaluation.
