Which one is likely to suit your wrist?
Choose the SRPH97K1 for a bolder diver profile
At 43.8 mm across, 48.4 mm long and 13.5 mm thick, the SRPH97K1 has the larger published dimensions. Its angular Samurai-style case and rubber strap make it the more pronounced, sport-diver-oriented option on paper. The 48.4 mm length is especially useful to compare against a watch you already wear: diameter alone does not show how much wrist space the case occupies.
Choose the SRPH99K1 for a lower-profile specification
The SRPH99K1 measures 42.4 mm across, 45.17 mm long and 11.72 mm thick in Seiko Boutique UK’s specification sheet. Those smaller dimensions suggest a less imposing fit on paper, though actual comfort depends on wrist shape, strap adjustment and personal preference. Its polyester strap also gives the model a different feel and appearance from the SRPH97K1’s rubber band.
How do the bezels change the watches?
The SRPH97K1 has a rotating diver bezel and a stated 200 m water-resistance rating. The SRPH99K1 is rated 20 bar by Seiko and has a rotating compass-style bezel in Fratello’s 2022 hands-on description. These are different bezel concepts, not interchangeable scales: choose the diver-style layout or compass-oriented design that better matches your intended use and taste.

Are the movement and specifications otherwise comparable?
Both models use Seiko’s automatic 4R35, so movement architecture is not a meaningful reason to choose one over the other. Seiko Boutique UK lists the SRPH99K1 with an approximately 41-hour power reserve, stated accuracy of -35/+45 seconds per day, date display and stop-seconds function. Those are manufacturer specifications, not results from an independent accuracy test. Seiko’s SRPH97K1 product page lists a date display, screw-down crown and screw case back alongside its rotating bezel and 20-bar resistance.
Seiko describes Prospex as a combination of “Professional” and “Specifications.” The brand’s stated diver and water-resistance specifications are useful distinctions, but they do not establish that either watch is appropriate for every water activity; follow Seiko’s care and use guidance for the specific watch.

What should you know about straps and replacement fit?
The SRPH99K1’s official UK sheet specifies a 20 mm lug width, which is the relevant starting point when checking replacement straps. For the SRPH97K1, the cited official product page identifies a rubber band but does not state its lug width. Confirm the measurement with Seiko or the seller for the exact case before buying an aftermarket strap; do not assume a width based on the model family.

Seiko’s 2022 Black Series brochure lists 8,000 SRPH97K1 watches and 7,000 SRPH99K1 watches. The counts describe production limits, not current stock or future resale value.

Fratello reported launch prices of €690 for the SRPH97K1 and €590 for the SRPH99K1 in its 2022 coverage. Seiko Boutique UK’s 2026 specification sheet lists an SRPH99K1 RRP of £510 including VAT. These are dated, region-specific figures rather than a current global street-price comparison; verify any live price, availability, seller authenticity and return terms before purchasing.

Which Seiko Black Series model should you buy?
- Pick the SRPH97K1 if you prefer the larger King Samurai-style case, rubber strap and rotating diver bezel.
- Pick the SRPH99K1 if you want the smaller published dimensions, a compass-style bezel, polyester strap and documented 20 mm lug width.
- Do not choose on movement alone: both use the 4R35 automatic movement.
- Do not treat the limited-edition counts as an investment signal: the figures establish edition size, not what a watch will sell for later.
