The Seiko Prospex “Blue Tears” is the HBB006K1, a regionally distributed Thong Sia Group limited edition, according to retailer and specialist-watch listings. Its reported combination is a blue dial and bezel, automatic 4R35 movement, 200 m Diver’s rating, and a steel bracelet supplied with a navy silicone strap. The closest comparison in Seiko’s official 2026 announcement is the HBB001; the HBC005 1965 Heritage is a more substantial step up in movement, crystal and water-resistance specification.
How the three Prospex divers compare
| Model | Movement and stated reserve | Case and crystal | Diver rating | Design, edition and package |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Tears HBB006K1 | 4R35 automatic; approximately 41 hours, per City Chain | 41.7 × 12.3 mm; Hardlex, per City Chain | 200 m, per City Chain | Blue dial and bezel; City Chain reports a steel bracelet and additional navy silicone strap. SJX Watches reports an edition of 1,200 pieces. |
| HBB001 | 4R35 automatic; 41 hours | 41.7 × 12.3 mm; Hardlex | 200 m | Two-tone bezel; 145th-anniversary limited edition of 9,999 pieces, according to Seiko. |
| HBC005 1965 Heritage | 6R55 automatic; 72 hours | 40.0 × 13.0 mm; curved sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating | 300 m | 1965 Heritage design, silver-white dial with blue accents; limited to 4,000 pieces, according to Seiko. |
Seiko’s figures for the HBB001 and HBC005 come from its Australian-region announcement of 14 May 2026; the release says specifications and prices are as of publication and subject to change. Blue Tears specifications come from City Chain’s product listing, while its reported edition count comes from SJX Watches’ partnership article. Seiko’s cited release does not list the HBB006K1, so its details should be understood as retailer and specialist reporting, not an official Seiko product-page specification.
What the differences mean in practice
Blue Tears HBB006K1: the regional blue-on-blue option
City Chain identifies the Blue Tears as a Thong Sia exclusive limited edition and says it is available in Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Brunei. SJX describes a deep-blue sunray dial, dark-blue bezel and brighter-blue seconds hand. That specialist article reports 1,200 pieces and SGD 953.80 excluding taxes; City Chain’s Singapore listing presents a price of about SGD 954 with tax included. Those are different source and tax presentations, not a single confirmed cross-market price. Check the local listing for current stock and the applicable tax basis.
HBB001: the closest like-for-like comparison
On the specifications published by Seiko, the HBB001 matches the Blue Tears on case dimensions, crystal, movement and diver rating. Its principal stated visual distinction is the two-tone bezel, and Seiko identifies it as a 145th-anniversary edition. That makes the Blue Tears’ reported blue treatment and supplied second strap the more meaningful points of contrast, rather than a claimed difference in tested performance.

HBC005 1965 Heritage: a different specification tier
The HBC005 is based on Seiko’s 1965 diver design and differs on several measurable points: it is narrower but thicker, uses sapphire rather than Hardlex, has a longer stated reserve, and carries a 300 m rather than 200 m rating. Seiko lists an Australian recommended retail price of AUD 2,200 in its 14 May 2026 announcement; that is a launch figure for that market, not a current universal price. The greater water-resistance figure is a specification difference, not proof that the HBC005 is the better everyday choice for every wearer.
Which differences should guide a choice?
- Choose by design first: the Blue Tears is the blue-on-blue regional edition; the HBB001 has a two-tone bezel; the HBC005 follows the 1965 Heritage design with a silver-white dial and blue accents.
- Consider fit, not just diameter: the HBC005 is 40.0 mm wide but 13.0 mm thick. The other two are listed at 41.7 mm by 12.3 mm. Wrist comfort also depends on factors not supplied here, including lug-to-lug length and individual fit.
- Match the specification to your use: the published ratings are 200 m for Blue Tears and HBB001, and 300 m for HBC005. The figures alone do not establish real-world performance beyond the stated specifications.
- Check what comes in the box: City Chain lists a steel bracelet plus navy silicone strap for Blue Tears. The cited Seiko announcement does not state a comparable strap bundle for HBB001 or HBC005.
- Verify local availability and price: Blue Tears’ listed distribution is regional, and its cited price presentations differ in tax treatment. Seiko’s HBC005 price is an Australian launch RRP; availability and current prices for all three can vary by market and date.
Where Blue Tears sits in Seiko diver history
Blue Tears is best compared here as a current regional Prospex variant, not as a re-creation of one of Seiko’s historic divers. Seiko’s official diver history traces the range to its 1965 diver. In a 2017 announcement, Seiko described the SLA017 as a 1965 First Diver re-creation with a 200 m rating, 8L35 movement and 50-hour reserve, and the SPB051/SPB053 as modern interpretations with a 6R15 movement, 50-hour reserve and 200 m rating. Those earlier watches provide lineage context, but the cited announcement is historical rather than evidence of current retail availability. Seiko’s diver-watch history and its 2017 announcement describe that background.
