The Seiko Prospex SLA065 is a 1,300-piece limited edition that reinterprets Seiko’s 1965 diver with an engraved blue dial inspired, in Seiko’s description, by a marine astrolabe. Its defining practical details are a 41.3 mm steel case, automatic 8L35 movement, 200 m diver’s water resistance and supplied silicone strap. Seiko announced the model for February 2023 availability; that launch timing and price are not evidence of current stock or today’s market value.
What the SLA065 is—and what makes it different
Seiko’s formal name for the model is “Save the Ocean Limited Edition 1965 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation.” The watch draws on the brand’s 1965 diver, while its patterned blue dial is the most distinctive element. Seiko says the engraving echoes a marine astrolabe, a navigational tool, and links the Save the Ocean series to the Fournoi Underwater Survey and Excavation in Greece. That is Seiko’s stated design rationale; it does not establish that an individual purchase directly funds the project. Seiko’s special page on the model and design explains the connection.
The metallic blue dial and astrolabe-inspired pattern were also noted in launch coverage by Hodinkee and Monochrome Watches. The latter describes beige LumiBrite details. The combination gives the SLA065 a more decorative, visibly themed face than a plain-dial dive watch, while retaining the rotating bezel and dive-watch case features.

How the SLA065 may fit on the wrist
Use all three case measurements—41.3 mm diameter, 13.1 mm thickness and 47.6 mm lug-to-lug—when judging fit. Diameter alone does not show how far the watch spans across the wrist, and thickness affects how it sits under a cuff. Comparing those figures with a watch you already wear is more useful than assuming the SLA065 will fit based on diameter alone.
The 20 mm lug distance is a useful strap-shopping measurement, but it does not guarantee that every third-party strap will attach correctly or suit diving use. Seiko supplies a silicone band; inspect attachment details and intended use before changing it.

8L35 movement: what the specifications tell you
The 8L35 is an automatic movement that can also be wound by hand. Seiko specifies a roughly 50-hour power reserve, a date display and stop-seconds, which lets the seconds hand stop while setting the time. Its stated precision of +15 to -10 seconds per day is a specification rather than a promise that every individual example will keep time within that range in every condition. No independent accuracy test or result for an SLA065 sample is established here.
Water resistance and dive-watch features
Seiko rates the SLA065 for 200 m / 660 ft diver’s water resistance and lists a screw-down crown, unidirectional rotating bezel and LumiBrite on the hands, indexes and bezel. The rating describes the manufacturer’s specification; it does not verify the present condition of a used example or replace correct use and maintenance. A buyer considering a pre-owned watch should not infer its current water resistance from the model’s original rating alone.

Edition size, launch and price context
Seiko Watch Corporation announced a limited run of 1,300 pieces, with availability from February 2023 through Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide. That is the launch announcement, not confirmation that a retailer has one available now. Seiko’s January 2023 announcement listed a New Zealand recommended retail price of NZD 5,200 and said specifications and price information were those of the release date and subject to change.
Seiko’s official pages also displayed GBP 2,670 on its UK product page and USD 2,900 on its Middle East page at the time those listings were consulted. These are separate regional displayed prices, not directly comparable offers, guaranteed transaction prices or proof of stock. Check the relevant local Seiko page or an authorized retailer for current availability and final price; a secondary-market asking price should be assessed separately from launch pricing.

What to check before buying
- Fit: Compare 41.3 mm diameter, 13.1 mm thickness and 47.6 mm lug-to-lug with a watch that suits your wrist.
- Movement priorities: Decide whether the automatic 8L35, hand-winding capability and approximately 50-hour stated reserve suit how you rotate watches.
- Condition: For a pre-owned example, verify the individual watch’s condition and service history rather than relying on the original model specifications, especially if water use matters.
- Price and availability: Confirm the seller, region, current asking price and whether the watch is actually available. The 2023 launch recommendation is historical price context, not a current valuation.
- Band: The original specification is a silicone band with 20 mm between the lugs; verify any replacement’s attachment and suitability for the intended activity.
