The Seiko Prospex SLA069 is a 500-piece limited edition that reinterprets Seiko’s 1970 diver associated with adventurer Naomi Uemura. It pairs a 44 mm stainless-steel case with Seiko’s automatic 8L35 movement, approximately 50 hours of power reserve and 200 m diver’s water resistance. Seiko listed it as available from May 2023; regional prices shown on its UK and Middle East pages were £2,600 and US$2,900 respectively.
What is the Seiko Prospex SLA069?
The SLA069J1 is Seiko’s “1970 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation, The Naomi Uemura Limited Edition,” part of the Prospex Sea collection. Seiko limited the edition to 500 pieces. The reference is a modern reinterpretation—not the original watch worn on Uemura’s expedition. Seiko’s dedicated edition feature describes its design and release; the UK Prospex Sea lineup also lists the model.
Why is it a Naomi Uemura edition?
Seiko links the design to its 1970 diver, which the company says Uemura wore during Arctic travel from 1974 to 1976. A regional Seiko account describes the journey as an Arctic dog-sled expedition. The SLA069 revisits that watch’s design in a contemporary Prospex, rather than claiming to be the expedition watch itself. Seiko said the limited edition would be available from May 2023 through its boutiques and selected retailers worldwide. Seiko Netherlands’ 2023 account provides the launch and historical context.
The special presentation box features the line Seiko attributes to Uemura: “When one dream is realized, other dreams will follow.”

How large is the SLA069, and how might it fit?
The 44 mm diameter gives the SLA069 a broad case, but diameter alone does not capture how much wrist space it occupies. Its 49.3 mm lug-to-lug span is another useful fit measurement, while the 13 mm thickness affects how high it sits. Seiko lists a 20 mm lug width. Check those dimensions against a watch you already wear comfortably, especially if your wrist is small or you prefer compact divers.

What did the SLA069 cost?
Seiko’s regional listings showed different prices: the UK page displayed £2,600, while the Middle East page displayed US$2,900. Those are market-specific prices from the cited regional pages, not a universal price, and they may no longer be current. They do not establish live stock or resale value.

Seiko’s 2023 regional launch account said the edition was offered through Seiko boutiques and selected retailers worldwide. Because the model was limited to 500 and that launch information dates from 2023, it does not confirm present-day stock. Check with a Seiko boutique or an authorized retailer in your region, and confirm the reference, seller status and current price before buying.

Do not confuse the SLA069 with the separate earlier SLA049, Seiko’s Naomi Uemura 80th Anniversary model. They are distinct references and editions.
