The Seiko Prospex SPB213J1 is a 140th Anniversary Limited Edition diver distinguished by its silver-white dial and blue bezel. Seiko specified a 6,000-piece production run and a May 2021 availability date. Its appeal is the distinctive anniversary colorway on a familiar Prospex diver format; whether it is worth buying now depends on the individual watch’s condition, price and provenance, since the launch price is historical and no market-wide resale value is established here.
What the SPB213J1 is—and what makes it different
Seiko presents the SPB213J1 as a modern reinterpretation of its first diver’s watch, introduced in 1965. The anniversary collection’s design concept pairs silvery white with blue, evoking blue sky visible through clouds. That is Seiko’s design framing, not a claim that the SPB213 reproduces every technical feature of the 1965 watch. Seiko’s anniversary release page identifies the SPB213J as a 6,000-piece limited edition available from May 2021.
The distinguishing detail is the silver-white dial against a medium-blue bezel. In his February 24, 2021 launch coverage, Hodinkee’s James Stacey described the watch as having a white dial and blue bezel, and noted that the case and core format largely carried over from the related SPB14X family. The SPB213’s main change is its color presentation rather than a fundamentally different diver design. Hodinkee’s launch article is a dated account, not a current assessment of availability or value.

These are specifications on Seiko’s UK product page, accessed in 2026. The accuracy range and power reserve are manufacturer figures, not results from a test of a particular example. The 40.5 mm diameter is only one part of how a watch wears: the 47.6 mm lug-to-lug measurement, 13.2 mm thickness and 181 g listed weight also matter when judging fit and heft.

How it compares with the SPB14X family
The SPB213J1 makes most sense as a colorway choice within the related SPB14X family. Hodinkee’s launch coverage says the case and core format largely remained the same, with the SPB213 changing the dial and bezel presentation. It does not establish that every SPB14X variant has identical specifications, bracelet details, present-day price or condition.
- Choose the SPB213J1 if the white-and-blue anniversary look and limited-edition designation are the main draw.
- Compare other SPB14X versions if the colorway matters less than finding the right example, condition or price. Check the exact reference rather than assuming all family members match.
Is the SPB213J1 worth buying?
It can be a compelling choice if you specifically want the silver-white and blue design, the Prospex diver format and a limited-edition reference. The published specifications give concrete reasons to consider it: a 40.5 mm case, 200 m diver’s rating, sapphire crystal and the 6R35’s approximately 70-hour stated reserve. Those figures do not establish how a specific watch performs, how it feels on your wrist or whether a seller’s asking price is fair.

Price evidence needs careful context. Hodinkee reported a US launch price of $1,200 and June 2021 availability in its February 2021 coverage. Seiko’s UK page displays GBP 1,130 as accessed in 2026; that is a regional listed price, not a current transaction or resale benchmark, and it should not be compared directly with the historical US launch price. A Malaysian Seiko Boutique page showed the model out of stock when accessed, but one regional stock snapshot does not demonstrate global unavailability. The boutique listing is useful only as that limited snapshot.

- Condition: Inspect the case, crystal, bezel, dial, hands, bracelet and clasp. Ask about polishing, replacement parts, damage and operation.
- Service history: Request available service records and clarify what the seller knows about maintenance and timekeeping. The published accuracy range is not a guarantee of the present condition of a pre-owned watch.
- Box and papers: Establish exactly what is included; do not assume completeness from the limited-edition description.
- Price and protections: Compare the asking price with current offers for the same reference and condition. Confirm the seller’s return terms and any applicable warranty before purchase.
Will a 20 mm strap fit?
Seiko lists 20 mm between the lugs, so a strap with a nominal 20 mm width is the starting point. That measurement alone does not confirm compatibility with a particular strap’s end shape, thickness or hardware. Check the strap and spring-bar fit against the case before ordering, especially if the replacement uses fitted ends.

For reference, the US launch price reported by Hodinkee in 2021 was $1,200, while Seiko’s UK page displayed GBP 1,130 when accessed in 2026. The first is a historical launch figure; the second is a regional listed price. Neither is evidence of what a specific SPB213J1 currently sells for on the secondary market.
