The Seiko Prospex SPB451, SPB453, and SPB455 are modern reinterpretations of Seiko’s 1965 diver, presented in March 2024. Their published core specifications are shared: the 6R55 automatic movement, an approximately 72-hour power reserve, a 40.0 mm case, and 300 m diver’s water resistance. The practical choice is mainly blue (SPB451), black (SPB453), or the charcoal-gray, gold-accented 100th-anniversary SPB455, which includes an additional fabric strap.
Choose between the SPB451 and SPB453 by dial color. Consider the SPB455 if you prefer its anniversary styling and included strap; compare current local prices and availability before deciding. Seiko’s published specifications do not establish that one reference performs better than another.
What are the Seiko SPB451, SPB453, and SPB455?
Seiko presented the trio in March 2024 as modern reinterpretations of its 1965 diver. Seiko describes that original watch as Japan’s first diver’s watch; that historical framing is the manufacturer’s. The 2024 references bring the design into the current Prospex lineup.
Enthusiasts sometimes call the preceding 2020 generation “20MAS” and the 2024 models “24MAS.” Those are collector shorthand, not Seiko’s formal product names.

Seiko says the new date placement makes the dial more symmetrical and leaves more room for Lumibrite. These are manufacturer-described changes; they should not be taken as a complete component-by-component comparison with every earlier reference.

Seiko lists 24 jewels, manual and automatic winding, and stop-seconds functionality for the 6R55 movement. Its SPB451 specifications list 20 mm between the lugs, Lumibrite on the hands, indexes, and bezel, and a unidirectional rotating bezel. Prices and availability are regional and can change; the US figures above are not universal prices. Seiko’s March 2024 announcement listed launch-date European recommended prices of EUR 1,400 for the SPB451 and SPB453, and EUR 1,600 for the SPB455.
What changed from the preceding generation?
Case dimensions and shorter lugs
Seiko lists the new references at 40.0 mm in diameter, 13.0 mm thick, and 46.4 mm lug-to-lug. Seiko describes the redesign as having shorter lugs. These published dimensions are useful for comparison, but they do not establish how the watch will fit every wrist; the dossier contains no independent measurement or hands-on fit test.
The 6R55 and its three-day reserve
All three references use Seiko’s 6R55 automatic movement, which supports manual winding and stop seconds, has 24 jewels, and is specified for an approximately 72-hour (three-day) power reserve. Seiko’s March 2024 announcement describes this as a three-day reserve. Actual running time depends on the movement’s state of wind and use.

Seiko lists stated accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day on the official SPB451 and SPB453 specification pages. That is a manufacturer specification, not a chronometer certification or a measurement of every individual watch.
The date moves between four and five o’clock
The date window moves from 3 o’clock to between 4 and 5 o’clock. Seiko says the revised position makes the dial more symmetrical and provides more dial space for Lumibrite. Whether you prefer the new layout is a matter of taste.
Water resistance is 300 m
Seiko specifies 300 m diver’s water resistance for the three references. The company describes this as a first for its Prospex non-saturation divers; attribute that claim to Seiko rather than generalizing it to all Seiko watches.

- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT for seamless precision in every tick of this watch
- SCRATCH-RESISTANT CRYSTAL to maintain a pristine look even with daily wear and tear on your watch
- LUMINESCENT HANDS for effortless readability in low-light conditions, ensuring you never miss a moment with this watch

Seiko also specifies a curved sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating, Lumibrite on the hands, indexes, and bezel, and a unidirectional rotating bezel. Water resistance can be affected by wear, damage, or service. If you plan to dive with a watch, follow Seiko’s care guidance and have its water resistance checked as appropriate.

What distinguishes each reference?
SPB451: blue dial
The SPB451 is the blue-dial standard-collection option. It shares the published core specifications with the SPB453. Choose it if you prefer blue and want the standard version of this platform.
For a direct model search, look for the Seiko Prospex SPB451. Confirm the exact reference, seller, warranty, and current availability before purchase.
SPB453: black dial
The SPB453 is the black-dial standard-collection option. Its published core specifications match those of the SPB451, so choosing between these two is primarily a color preference, not a documented performance difference.
Search for the Seiko Prospex SPB453 and check the seller and exact reference. Seiko’s US lineup page reviewed in October 2026 listed the SPB451 and SPB453 at USD 1,300 each; retailer prices and stock may differ.

The SPB455 is the charcoal-gray, gold-accented 100th-anniversary special edition. Its published core platform is shared with the standard references; its documented distinctions are the anniversary appearance and additional Seichu-braided strap made from recycled plastic bottles.
Seiko says the included strap has tensile strength nearly four times that of regular Seiko fabric straps, based on the company’s own research. Treat that as a manufacturer claim, not independent testing. No current US price for the SPB455 was verified in the research, so check local pricing and stock before comparing its cost with the standard models.

The bracelet and strap options
Seiko describes the redesigned bracelet as using shorter links and a smaller clasp for comfort. The dossier does not include independent comfort testing, so treat that as Seiko’s design rationale rather than a verified fit outcome for every wearer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSeiko specifies 20 mm between the lugs for the SPB451. That measurement can help when shopping for straps, but it is not proof that a particular third-party bracelet or strap will fit. Verify the exact reference, attachment, thickness, spring-bar clearance, and end shape before buying. The SPB455 package includes an additional fabric strap; consult the regional product listing to confirm package contents.
For a third-party accessory search, a 20 mm watch strap is a starting point, not a guarantee of compatibility. A suitably sized spring-bar tool may help when changing a strap, but use care to avoid scratching the case.
