What the Seiko–Datsun 240Z connection means
The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Datsun 240Z collection is a three-watch motorsport collaboration, not one watch offered in three colors. Each reference draws on Seiko’s Speedtimer heritage and Datsun 240Z design cues, but the watches use different movements, timing functions, dimensions, and straps or bracelets.
The historical link begins in 1969, when the Datsun 240Z was launched and Seiko introduced its original Speedtimer. The collection also references the Datsun 240Z’s win in the 1971 East African Safari Rally. Seiko’s collection page identifies details inspired by the rally car and the car’s dashboard and steering wheel. These are Seiko products with a Datsun 240Z theme, not watches made by Datsun or Nissan.

The three watches are aimed at different buyers
SPB517: the automatic countdown-scale model
The SPB517 is the most compact by diameter and the collection’s countdown-oriented model. Its automatic Caliber 6R55 has manual winding and approximately 72 hours of power reserve, according to Seiko’s 2026 product listing. It is not a chronograph: an inner rotating scale is used for countdown timing, with the crown at 4 o’clock operating the function.
Seiko describes the scale as useful for timing motorsport intervals, such as the time remaining before a start or the duration of a tire change or refueling task. The case measures 39.5 mm across, 12.0 mm thick, and 44.5 mm lug-to-lug. Seiko lists 20-bar water resistance, a curved sapphire crystal with inner-surface anti-reflective coating, and a leather band sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries.
The matte black dial uses red accents, a Datsun emblem at 6 o’clock, and dial-ring numerals inspired by the 240Z dashboard. Seiko lists the SPB517 at $1,150 in the U.S. and limits it to 2,500 pieces.
SRQ057: the mechanical chronograph
The SRQ057 is the collection’s mechanical chronograph and smallest edition. Its Caliber 8R48 is automatic with manual winding and has approximately 45 hours of power reserve, according to Seiko’s 2026 listing. The chronograph has 30-minute and 12-hour counters, a stop-seconds function, and a date display.

The 42.0 mm case is the largest by diameter and thickest of the three at 14.6 mm; its lug-to-lug length is 49.5 mm. Seiko lists 10-bar water resistance, a dual-curved sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating, and a leather band. Design details include a tachymeter scale, cursive Datsun lettering at 12 o’clock, and a rally-car emblem on the case back.

Seiko lists the SRQ057 at $3,200 in the U.S. and limits it to 500 pieces. That makes it the rarest by stated production quantity, but edition size alone does not establish investment value or future resale performance.
SSC957: the solar chronograph
The SSC957 is the solar-powered chronograph. Seiko specifies the V192 movement at ±15 seconds per month and approximately six months of operation when fully charged. Its chronograph measures up to 60 minutes in 1/5-second increments; other functions include a 24-hour hand, small seconds, a power-reserve indicator, and date.
The stainless-steel case measures 41.4 mm across, 13.0 mm thick, and 45.9 mm lug-to-lug. Seiko lists 10-bar water resistance, a curved sapphire crystal, a 21 mm distance between lugs, and a stainless-steel bracelet. The block-letter Datsun branding references the steering wheel; the bracelet’s black center section is described by Seiko as a bonnet homage.

Which Datsun 240Z Speedtimer should you choose?
- Choose the SRQ057 if you want the dedicated mechanical chronograph and its 30-minute and 12-hour counters. It has the largest and thickest case and the smallest stated edition.
- Choose the SSC957 if solar operation, a bracelet, and the lowest Seiko U.S. listed price matter most. Its stated operation when fully charged is approximately six months.
- Choose the SPB517 if you prefer an automatic watch with a countdown scale, a smaller case, and the collection’s highest water-resistance rating.
These are specification-based distinctions, not claims about comfort, daily accuracy, lume, bracelet feel, or durability. Seiko’s product specifications do not establish those qualities through hands-on review or independent testing.

Buying and availability
Seiko’s collection page gives September 2025 as the models’ availability timing. That is original launch timing, not evidence of present stock. Seiko’s U.S. product listings checked in 2026 show the three references and their listed prices, but availability can vary by country and retailer.
When searching, use the exact reference—SPB517, SRQ057, or SSC957—and confirm the seller, model reference, warranty terms, country of sale, and whether the quoted amount is current retail or a secondary-market price. Marketplace inventory and seller authorization were not verified by the research for this article.
For an official purchase route, check Seiko’s official Seiko Speedtimer listing and verify availability with the relevant Seiko boutique or authorized retailer. The catalog listing does not guarantee live stock.

Seiko states limited quantities of 500 SRQ057 watches, 2,500 SPB517 watches, and 4,000 SSC957 watches. These figures compare the stated production limits; they do not predict resale premiums. The research does not establish transaction prices or investment performance for these models.
For a pre-owned example, check that the reference on the watch and paperwork matches the advertised model, inspect the condition, and ask whether packaging and papers are included. For the solar SSC957, you can also ask whether its power-reserve behavior has been checked. These are buying precautions, not claims that a specific watch has passed inspection.

Verdict
The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Datsun 240Z collection offers three different combinations of movement and timing function. The SRQ057 is the mechanical chronograph with the smallest stated edition, the SSC957 pairs solar operation with a bracelet and the lowest listed U.S. price, and the SPB517 is the compact automatic model with a countdown scale and 20-bar water resistance.
Choose according to the function, size, and construction you want. Seiko’s U.S. listed prices and edition quantities are useful for comparing the models, but they do not establish current retailer stock or resale value.
