The SRPE29K1 is khaki/beige; the SRPE31K1 is gray. Both use Seiko’s 4R36 automatic movement, a day-date display and a published 200 m diver’s water-resistance rating. This is a specification-led comparison, not a first-person hands-on review: the available evidence does not establish personal wear or independent testing.
What separates the SRPE29K1 and SRPE31K1?
The established difference is their color treatment. Monochrome Watches describes the SRPE29K1 with a khaki dial and strap, and the SRPE31K1 with a gray dial and strap. Both are part of Seiko Prospex’s Street Series Urban Safari group. Seiko’s 2020 announcement identifies them as the series’ first mechanical models with caliber 4R36.

The matching textured silicone accordion straps are described by Monochrome Watches. The available specifications do not establish a functional advantage for either colorway, so choose by appearance rather than assuming a difference in performance.
Movement and everyday functions
Seiko’s 2020 Urban Safari announcement says both references use the automatic caliber 4R36. Seiko Boutique Malaysia’s SRPE31K1 listing specifies automatic winding with manual winding, day/date, stop-seconds, 24 jewels and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Monochrome Watches reports the same movement and approximate reserve for the pair. The reserve is a published specification, not an independently timed result.

A day-date display makes these more than time-only watches, while manual winding lets the wearer wind the movement by hand. The sources establish the shared movement family, but do not provide comparative accuracy measurements for these individual watches.
Case size, crystal and construction
For the SRPE31K1, Seiko Boutique Malaysia lists a 43.2 mm diameter, 12.7 mm thickness and 44 mm case length. Monochrome Watches reports those dimensions for the paired models. The 44 mm length is useful as one fit reference, but dimensions alone cannot predict how a watch will sit on a particular wrist; trying it on is the reliable way to assess fit.

There is a small source-specific discrepancy in the published measurements. Seiko’s launch announcement in 2020 gives 43.0 mm diameter and 13.0 mm height, while the later boutique listing and the specialist review give 43.2 mm and 12.7 mm. These figures should not be blended: they reflect what each source reports.
The SRPE31K1 listing specifies Hardlex crystal, a screw caseback, screw-down crown and unidirectional bezel. Monochrome Watches describes the same core case features for both models. These are product descriptions, not findings from an independent inspection here.

What does the 200 m rating mean?
Seiko Boutique Malaysia lists the SRPE31K1 as a 200 m diver’s watch, and Monochrome Watches reports that rating for both colorways. It is an advertised specification; no water-resistance test was conducted for this review. A published rating should not be treated as proof of the condition of a particular used or damaged watch, or as a substitute for checking crown and gasket condition before water exposure.
Which colorway should you choose?
Choose the SRPE29K1 for khaki/beige
The SRPE29K1 pairs its khaki/beige appearance across the dial and strap. It is the option for someone who prefers that warmer, field-inspired color treatment; the evidence here does not establish any specification advantage over the gray model.

Choose the SRPE31K1 for gray
The SRPE31K1 carries the gray dial-and-strap treatment. Its published specification listing provides the detailed dimensions and movement information described above, but the paired review reports the same fundamental case and movement package for both references.
Color preference is therefore the defensible deciding factor. The sources do not establish different movement, size or water-resistance performance between the two references.

Price and availability
Monochrome Watches recorded €580 as a launch-era price, circa 2020; it is historical, not a current quote. Seiko Boutique Malaysia’s product page lists a Malaysian price and out-of-stock status, but those details are market- and time-specific and should not be generalized. Check a retailer in your country for current price, exact reference and stock before buying.
Verdict
The SRPE29K1 and SRPE31K1 are best understood as two visual versions of the same Urban Safari proposition: a 4R36 automatic, day-date Prospex with a published 200 m rating and matching silicone accordion strap. On the available evidence, there is no reason to pay more for one on the assumption that it is mechanically different. Pick the color you want, confirm the exact K1 reference, and assess fit in person if possible.
