The Seiko Prospex SRQ029 is a 1,000-piece limited-edition automatic chronograph released to mark 50 years since Seiko’s 1969 Caliber 6139 milestone. It pairs the modern 8R48 movement with a 41 mm coated-steel case and bracelet. Seiko’s 2019 announcement put its approximate European recommended retail price at €3,700; a Singapore product page accessed in 2026 displays SGD 5,466.70. Neither figure establishes the watch’s current resale value.
What the SRQ029 commemorates
Seiko presented the SRQ029, also referenced as SRQ029J1, as a Prospex Land chronograph marking the 50th anniversary of the brand’s 1969 automatic chronograph milestone. Seiko describes Caliber 6139 as one of the world’s first automatic chronographs and highlights its column wheel and vertical clutch as mechanisms that improved elapsed-time measurement. The SRQ029 does not use the 6139: its movement is the later Caliber 8R48. Seiko’s product page identifies the model and specifications; its chronograph history provides the historical context.
The edition was announced at 1,000 pieces, with availability from December 2019 at Seiko Boutiques and selected retailers worldwide. That is the announced production limit, not a count of watches still available today.
How it wears: size and construction
The case measures 41.0 mm across and 47.0 mm from lug to lug, with a 20 mm lug width. Its 16.0 mm thickness is the key fit consideration: it gives the watch a substantial profile and may make it less comfortable beneath a close-fitting shirt cuff than a thinner chronograph. The case and bracelet are stainless steel with Seiko’s super-hard coating.

A box-shaped sapphire crystal has anti-reflective coating on its inner surface. LumiBrite is applied to the hands and indices. The see-through, screw-down caseback is marked “LIMITED EDITION” and engraved with an individual serial number. Water resistance is rated at 10 bar.
Caliber 8R48 and chronograph functions
The automatic 8R48 can also be wound by hand. Seiko specifies 34 jewels, an approximate 45-hour power reserve and stated precision of +25 to −15 seconds per day. Its chronograph measures elapsed time with 30-minute and 12-hour counters; the watch also has a date display and stop-seconds function. Seiko’s 2019 announcement specifies a column wheel and vertical clutch, as well as a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (8 beats per second) and magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m.

The column wheel and vertical clutch connect the anniversary model to the technical ideas Seiko celebrates in the 6139, while the 8R48 is the SRQ029’s actual movement. The historical connection is therefore about the milestone and mechanism approach, not a claim that this watch contains the original caliber.
SRQ029 price: launch RRP and displayed regional price
Seiko’s September 2019 announcement gave an approximate European recommended retail price of €3,700. The Seiko Singapore product page accessed in 2026 displays SGD 5,466.70. These are different kinds of reference: the first is a launch-era European RRP, while the second is a price displayed on a particular regional product page. Neither is a verified current resale valuation, and the Singapore figure should not be treated as a universal price.

Current stock, secondary-market prices, condition and completeness are not established by those official figures. For a pre-owned example, the reference, serial marking, condition, service history and included bracelet links or other accessories can affect the specific listing; compare the asking price with current offers rather than using launch RRP as a market estimate.

The SRQ029 is narrower across the case but thicker, with a metal bracelet; the SRQ031 is larger in diameter, slightly thinner and supplied on cordovan. Both use 8R48 and were limited to 1,000 pieces.
