For a compact solar comparison, use the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC813; for an automatic-to-automatic comparison, use the SRQ055J1. The specific Tissot reference covered here is the 42 mm automatic PRX Chronograph T1374271104101.
Which Speedtimer reference are you comparing?
The model number changes the comparison. The SSC813 is a solar-powered quartz chronograph, while the SRQ055J1 is an automatic mechanical chronograph. The cited PRX, reference T1374271104101, is also automatic. Comparing the PRX with the SSC813 is therefore a choice between different movement types and case sizes; comparing it with the SRQ055J1 is closer on movement category and nominal dimensions.

Seiko’s September 28, 2021 announcement covers the solar Speedtimer series, including its original US pricing and dimensions. Seiko Italy’s 2025 release gives specifications and Italian pricing for the SRQ055J1. Tissot’s US product page lists details for the specific PRX reference used here.
Movement and power: solar quartz or automatic
Seiko Speedtimer SSC813
The SSC813 uses Seiko’s V192 solar chronograph caliber. It charges using light and includes a power-reserve indicator. It is not an automatic mechanical watch, so it does not need to be wound by wrist motion or operate from a mainspring reserve in the way the two automatic chronographs do.

Tissot PRX Chronograph T1374271104101
Tissot identifies this reference’s movement as the Valjoux A05.H31, an automatic chronograph with a stated 68-hour power reserve on this variant’s technical details. That figure should not be applied to every PRX Chronograph: reserve specifications can vary by reference, so check the exact model number.
Seiko Speedtimer SRQ055J1
The SRQ055J1 uses Seiko’s 8R48 automatic chronograph caliber, with a stated 45-hour power reserve, column wheel and vertical clutch. Those are mechanical chronograph design features; they distinguish its movement architecture from the solar V192 and provide a more relevant comparison with the automatic PRX.

Seiko’s 2021 announcement describes the column wheel and vertical clutch in its historical account of the 1969 Speedtimer as features that improved elapsed-time measurement and remain prerequisites in high-functionality chronographs. That is Seiko’s characterization, not an independent comparison or test of these present-day watches.

Case size, water resistance and crystal
| Reference | Movement | Power or reserve | Case dimensions | Water resistance | Crystal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC813 | V192 solar chronograph | Solar charging; power-reserve indicator | 39.0 mm diameter; 13.3 mm thick | 10 bar | Sapphire |
| Tissot PRX Chronograph T1374271104101 | Automatic chronograph; Valjoux A05.H31 | 68 hours for this variant | 42 mm wide; 14.54 mm thick; 13 mm lug width | 10 bar / 100 m | Sapphire |
| Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SRQ055J1 | 8R48 automatic chronograph; column wheel and vertical clutch | 45 hours | 42.0 mm diameter; 14.6 mm thick | 10 bar | Sapphire |
The SSC813 is the smaller and thinner option by the listed case measurements: 39 mm across and 13.3 mm thick, versus 42 mm and 14.54 mm for the cited PRX. The SRQ055J1 is nominally much closer to that PRX, at 42 mm across and 14.6 mm thick. Diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears; lug shape, bracelet, wrist proportions and personal preference also matter. No comparative wrist-fit testing is established here.

All three cited configurations list 10-bar water resistance and sapphire crystal. These specifications do not establish how the watches compare in durability, maintenance needs or performance in particular real-world conditions.

The available official prices are not a current, like-for-like contest. Seiko announced an original US retail price of $725 for its solar Speedtimer series in 2021. Seiko Italy listed the SRQ055J1 at €2,800 in its 2025 release. Tissot’s US product page displayed $2,150 for T1374271104101 when accessed October 12, 2026; the page’s publication date is not stated.

The useful distinction is the SSC813’s solar-quartz movement and smaller case against the PRX’s automatic movement and larger case. The historical $725 Seiko launch price and the Tissot’s displayed US listing indicate a substantial difference between those particular published figures, but do not establish today’s price gap or a like-for-like value verdict.

SRQ055J1 versus the PRX
Both are automatic chronographs with nearly identical listed case dimensions, but their movements, dial and bracelet configurations, finishing, warranties and local prices still need to be weighed at the exact reference level. The cited specifications and prices do not prove that either is the better value for every buyer.
Quick Recap
How to make the comparison useful
- Choose the Seiko reference first. Select SSC813 if you want to compare a compact solar chronograph, or SRQ055J1 if you want an automatic-to-automatic comparison.
- Match the exact PRX reference. T1374271104101 is the blue-dial 42 mm automatic model covered by the cited Tissot US page; do not assume another PRX Chronograph has identical specifications.
- Compare the dimensions that affect your decision. Consider case width and thickness alongside lug and bracelet geometry, rather than treating diameter as a complete fit measure.
- Check current local terms. Compare authorized-retailer prices, warranty coverage and availability in the same country and at the same time. The published figures above are historical or market-specific, not a live global price comparison.
