Seiko’s power design project collection puts a literal panda face on a quartz chronograph: the white-dial HHK001P and pink-dial HHK002P use their subdials, pushers and hands as parts of the animal’s face. Seiko announced a Japanese suggested retail price of ¥83,600 including tax for each, making “affordable” a relative description rather than a promise about local prices or availability.
Two colors, two limited editions
Seiko announced the models on 6 October 2026, with a planned Japanese release date of 7 November 2026. The price and release date are announcement-time details for Japan; they do not establish current stock or pricing elsewhere. Seiko named Dream Square, Seiko boutiques and its online store among the Japanese sales channels. Reservations were scheduled to open at noon on 7 October 2026, but that schedule is not evidence that either model remains available. [Seiko Watch Corporation announcement]

Edition sizes, Japan allocations and price are figures Seiko announced; they are not a count of unsold watches. “Affordable” is therefore best read as the headline’s relative framing, not a claim that the watches are inexpensive in every market.
How the dial becomes a panda
A conventional panda chronograph usually means a light dial with contrasting dark subdials. Seiko’s English product page asks, “Do the world’s panda-style watch dials really resemble pandas?” and answers by making the resemblance part of the watch’s actual layout. [Seiko Collection 2 product page]

Water resistance should be checked periodically as seals age.
- COMPACT 39MM WRIST PROFILE: The WD1863 measures 39mm across the bezel, with a 41mm mid-case, 46mm lug-to-lug length, 12.9mm thickness including the raised crystal and 20mm lug width. These proportions balance the detail of a three-register chronograph with a wearable footprint. The 20mm bracelet remains proportionate to the case, while the raised crystal adds vintage depth to the compact design.
- The embossed radial dial pattern evokes fur.
- The drooping subdials become the panda’s eyes, while the nose and mouth sit at six o’clock.
- The hour and minute hands are shaped like bamboo leaves.
- The recessed chronograph pushers suggest ears.
- The tachymeter scale is renamed the “SASAMETER,” from sasa, Japanese for bamboo leaves.
- The case back depicts the panda from behind and identifies the limited-edition status.
The result is more playful and literal than a standard black-and-white panda layout, while retaining chronograph functions. The white version leans on familiar panda colors; the pink edition takes its cue from a newborn panda.
Quartz chronograph specifications
Both models use Seiko quartz caliber 8T61, not the mechanical movement found in certain Prospex Speedtimer chronographs. The specifications below are manufacturer figures from Seiko, not independent test results. [Seiko Watch Corporation announcement]

The 43.0 mm diameter and 14.6 mm thickness are useful fit checks, especially for anyone who prefers smaller or slimmer watches. Seiko’s water-resistance wording is “everyday”; the announcement does not establish a depth rating in the stated specifications.
How it differs from Seiko’s mechanical panda chronographs
These watches belong to Seiko’s power design project collection and are quartz models. They should not be confused with the separate Prospex Speedtimer mechanical chronographs. For example, Seiko describes the SRQ047 as a mechanical panda-style chronograph with design cues from a 1972 Speedtimer and an automatic 8R-series movement. Who the design may suit
- Choose the HHK001P if you want the more traditional white-and-black panda palette and the larger announced edition.
- Choose the HHK002P if the pink dial and newborn-panda reference are the appeal, or if you prefer the smaller announced edition.
- Check dimensions before choosing either if 43.0 mm across or 14.6 mm thick may feel large on your wrist.
- Look for local pricing and availability from a seller in your market; Seiko’s Japanese list price and planned launch do not determine either.
The concept’s appeal is its visual joke made functional: chronograph components do double duty as panda features. Whether that makes either watch worth its price depends on your market and whether you want a deliberately whimsical quartz chronograph rather than a conventional panda dial or mechanical Speedtimer.
