Seiko Hungary announced four new Prospex Speedtimer references in September 2026—not one watch. Two are larger automatic chronographs; the other two are smaller three-hand automatics with an internal countdown ring instead. The announcement describes the designs as drawing on Seiko’s 1972 styling, while the broader Speedtimer family reaches back to the 1960s and 1970s.
What are the new Seiko Speedtimer models?
The four references announced by Seiko Hungary are HBD001J1, HBD002J1, HBC003J1 and HBC004J1. The HBD models use the 8R48 automatic chronograph movement. The HBC models use the 6R55 automatic movement and have no chronograph; a second crown at 4 o’clock operates an internal rotating countdown ring. Seiko Hungary describes all four as regular Prospex collection additions, not limited editions. Seiko Hungary’s September 2, 2026 announcement
The release takes design cues from a 1972 Seiko model, according to the regional announcement. Its two chronographs have a flowing case shape, multi-part bracelet design and contrasting subdials. The wider Speedtimer collection draws on Seiko designs from the 1960s and 1970s, including the company’s 1964 chronograph wristwatch and the 1969 automatic chronograph milestone. What is the difference between HBD001J1 and HBD002J1?
Both use the 8R48 automatic chronograph movement and share a 42 mm case, 10-bar water resistance and the same reported case thickness and height. The HBD001J1 pairs a pale-blue dial with a steel bracelet. The HBD002J1 has a silver-white dial with pale-blue chronograph subdials and comes on calfskin leather. Seiko Hungary reported expected Hungarian prices of HUF 1,000,000 for HBD001J1 and HUF 960,000 for HBD002J1.
The announcement gives conflicting power-reserve figures for the 8R48 pair: 45 hours in its main description and 48 hours in its later specification list. The official specification for a different 8R48 watch, the SRQ059, lists 45 hours, but that does not establish the reserve for these two new references. Seiko SRQ059 product page

Are the new Speedtimers chronographs?
Only the HBD001J1 and HBD002J1 are chronographs. The HBC003J1 and HBC004J1 are three-hand mechanical watches; their second crown turns an internal countdown ring to mark time remaining before an event, such as a race start. The HBC pair are also smaller than the chronographs and are reported with 20-bar water resistance and a 72-hour power reserve.

The four watches’ automotive cues belong to a longer Speedtimer story, but the historical milestones should not be conflated with the new models. Seiko’s collection overview traces the family’s inspiration to the 1960s and 1970s. The brand separately identifies its 1964 wristwatch as Japan’s first chronograph wristwatch and the 1969 Speedtimer as an automatic chronograph milestone. A separate anniversary release describes the 1969 model as the world’s first automatic chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch; those are heritage claims, not features attributed to the four new references.
