Is the new Seiko a blue-dial watch?
No blue-dial panda model is confirmed by the announcement. Seiko identifies HHK001P as white-dial and HHK002P as pink-dial, so describing either as blue-dial would be inaccurate. The announcement also describes a panda design, rather than naming the character as the headline’s “kawaii icon.”

A separate Seiko Lukia collaboration, model SSVW237, features the character MR.FRIENDLY in blue, but its official listing describes the dial as mother-of-pearl—not blue. Seiko lists it at ¥96,800 including tax and specifies solar-radio movement, a stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal and 10-bar water resistance. How the panda theme shapes the watch
The pair began as a concept in Seiko’s 2024 Power Design Project exhibition. Seiko says its watch designed specifically for panda lovers received the strongest support among the seven highly specialized concepts shown there and was selected for commercialization.

- Radial embossing on the dial represents panda fur.
- The drooping subdials, together with the nose and mouth at six o’clock, create a panda face.
- The hands are shaped like bamboo leaves, while recessed pushers evoke panda ears.
- Seiko calls the tachymeter display “SASAMETER,” a bamboo-related wordplay; the release says it functions like a conventional tachymeter.
- The caseback depicts a panda’s back and tail. The cowhide strap combines smooth and suede-like materials to suggest fur, and each model has a different special box.
Designer Kiyotaka Sakai framed the concept with the question, “世の中のパンダウオッチは、実はパンダに似ていないのではないか” (“Are panda watches in the world actually not similar to pandas?”). The English wording is a translation of the Japanese statement in Seiko’s announcement.
