This guide separates complete service, battery and partial maintenance, historical price references, and diagnosis-based estimates so you can compare like with like.
Service Your Watch: 12 Brands and Their Service Prices
There is no useful single average price for servicing a watch. A complete service can cost about $285 for some TAG Heuer watches, approximately $430 for a Cartier service, CHF 460 for certain Longines complications, or considerably more when a brand must replace external parts or repair a damaged movement. Several major brands, including Rolex and IWC, provide an estimate only after examining the individual watch.
The figures below separate published complete-service prices from battery or partial maintenance, historical price references, and brands that do not publish a universal figure. U.S. prices are used where available. Longines prices remain in Swiss francs rather than being converted using an undated exchange rate.
Important: These are published rates or approximate estimates, not guaranteed final invoices. Prices, service policies, parts availability, taxes, and turnaround times can change. Before sending an expensive, complicated, vintage, or water-resistant watch away, obtain a written estimate from the brand or an authorized watch service center.

Watch service prices at a glance
The table shows the strongest official pricing signal available for each brand in this comparison. A dash does not mean the service is free; it means the cited official route requires a model, serial number, diagnosis, or repair request before quoting.
| Brand | Published or verified price signal | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Rolex | Quote after inspection | Price depends on service type and watch condition. Complete overhaul takes at least four to six weeks. |
| Cartier | About $430 complete service; $60 battery service | U.S. estimates; the final amount can change after diagnosis, depending on the case, caliber, and required work. |
| TAG Heuer | $285–$1,550 for listed complete-service groups | U.S. M2 complete-service prices vary by quartz, mechanical, chronograph, in-house, tourbillon, or haute-horlogerie group. External parts are generally excluded. |
| Breitling | $200–$850 by listed category | Official U.S. recommended prices dated July 1, 2017. Use as a historical benchmark, not a current quotation. |
| Longines | CHF 230–CHF 460 for listed full services | Published Swiss-franc table. Battery-only service is CHF 30; additional components cost extra. |
| IWC Schaffhausen | Model- or serial-based pre-estimate | Use IWC’s service-price calculator or wait for a diagnosis. There is no single universal U.S. price. |
| Tudor | Quote through the official service network | The cited official material directs owners to authorized retailers and service centers but does not publish one universal price. |
| Seiko | Quote through the official U.S. service center | Pricing varies by model, movement, parts, and required work. No universal U.S. price table was verified. |
| Citizen | Repair request followed by customer-care details | The cited U.S. support route does not publish one brand-wide service price. |
| Casio | Quote through product repair and parts support | Repair economics differ between standard quartz, G-SHOCK, Pro Trek, vintage, and specialty modules. |
| Omega | No current public U.S. figure verified | Obtain a model-specific estimate from an Omega boutique or authorized service center. |
| Patek Philippe | No current public U.S. figure verified | Quote-only for this comparison unless a current official calculator or price sheet is obtained. |
What counts as a complete watch service?
A battery change, pressure test, bracelet cleaning, or regulation is not the same as a complete service. A complete mechanical service normally begins with diagnosis and ends with testing, but the exact work depends on the brand, caliber, condition, and service level.
Official complete-service descriptions from IWC and TAG Heuer provide a useful indication of the scope. Work can include:
- Diagnosis and inspection of the watch and movement
- Removal and cleaning of the case and movement components
- Disassembly, inspection, lubrication, and reassembly of the movement
- Replacement of worn movement components when required
- Replacement of seals and gaskets
- Regulation and checks of rate, power reserve, and function
- Water-resistance testing where the watch is designed for it
- Final aesthetic and quality-control inspection
That list does not automatically include a new crystal, bezel, crown, dial, hands, case, case-back, bracelet, buckle, or pushers. TAG Heuer specifically separates many external components from its headline complete-service prices. Polishing may also be optional, unavailable, or mandatory in particular cases. Always ask for exclusions before approving the work.

1. Rolex service cost
Rolex does not publish one universal U.S. service price in the cited official customer guidance. Instead, Rolex says the cost depends on the type of service and the condition of the watch. A Rolex-certified watchmaker evaluates the watch and provides an estimate.
That approach is important because the final amount can change with the movement type, case and bracelet condition, damaged or worn components, replacement parts, and the owner’s restoration choices. A basic service estimate for a healthy modern watch should not be treated as a promise that a vintage or damaged example will cost the same.
Rolex states that a complete overhaul takes a minimum of four to six weeks, depending on the watch’s condition. This is a minimum stated timeframe, not a guarantee that every repair will be completed within six weeks.
2. Cartier service cost
Cartier provides one of the clearest U.S. price snapshots in this group:
Recommended Free Tools
- Approximately $430 for a complete service
- $60 for battery service
Cartier says complete service takes a minimum of three weeks, although the timing depends on component availability and caliber complexity. The complete-service amount is an estimate rather than a guaranteed invoice. Cartier’s service conditions allow a revised estimate if diagnosis reveals that the required work will exceed the originally approved amount.
Cartier’s cited repair-warranty material describes a 24-month repair warranty. Confirm the applicable warranty terms on the estimate, particularly if the job is battery service, simple maintenance, restoration, or a repair involving customer-supplied parts.

3. TAG Heuer service cost
TAG Heuer’s U.S. public price list demonstrates why a brand-wide headline number can be misleading. Its M2 complete-service prices are grouped by watch type:
| TAG Heuer M2 group | Listed complete-service price |
|---|---|
| Group 1 quartz | $285 |
| Group 2 quartz chronographs and Solargraph watches | $360 |
| Group 3 mechanical watches | $460 |
| Group 4 mechanical chronographs | $570 |
| Group 5 mechanical in-house or COSC watches | $720 |
| Group 6 tourbillons | $1,000 |
| Group 7 haute-horlogerie, V4, and Mikrograph watches | $1,550 |
The list also identifies case-and-bracelet refurbishing as an additional $100. More importantly, the headline service prices exclude many external components, including the crystal, bezel, case, case-back, dial, bracelet, and buckle. If any of those parts need replacing, the final invoice can be substantially higher.
TAG Heuer also distinguishes M1 partial maintenance from M2 complete service. Do not compare an M1 maintenance quote with the M2 prices above as if they were the same level of work.
4. Breitling service cost
Breitling’s official U.S. maintenance document lists the following complete-service recommendations:
- $420 for an analog quartz watch
- $540 for an analog or analog-digital quartz chronograph
- $490 for a self-winding watch or GMT
- $690 for a standard chronograph
- $850 for a Breitling-caliber chronograph
- $850 for a chronograph with complications
- $200 for a UTC or Co-Pilot category
Historical-price warning: The Breitling document explicitly dates these recommended U.S. prices to July 1, 2017. They are useful as an official historical benchmark, but they should not be presented as current 2026 prices. Request a fresh quote before relying on any of these figures.
5. Longines service cost
Longines publishes its maintenance prices in Swiss francs. The listed full-service prices include:
- CHF 230 for a quartz two- or three-hand watch with calendar
- CHF 330 for a quartz chronograph
- CHF 350 for a mechanical two- or three-hand watch with small complications
- CHF 460 for a chronograph or major complication
Longines lists battery service only at CHF 30. It also lists CHF 100 for polishing when partial service is mandatory. Additional components are charged separately, and vintage calibers require an estimate.
These are Swiss-franc prices from the published table, not U.S. retail prices. Do not silently convert them into dollars: the U.S. service center may use different labor rates, taxes, shipping arrangements, and parts pricing.
6. IWC Schaffhausen service cost
IWC uses a service-price calculator that generates a pre-estimate from the watch’s serial number or model reference. Its U.S. customer guidance does not provide one universal service figure for every IWC watch.
IWC’s complete-service description includes diagnosis, case cleaning, replacement of seals and gaskets, movement overhaul, cleaning, lubrication, reassembly, rate checks, power-reserve checks, water-resistance checks, and a final aesthetic inspection. If diagnosis shows that the required work exceeds the pre-estimate, IWC can issue a revised estimate for approval.

IWC specifies a two-year service warranty for complete and restoration work covering workmanship and replacement parts. Its guidance identifies a 12-month warranty for simple service. Check which service category appears on the estimate because the warranty period is not necessarily identical for every type of work.
7. Tudor service cost
Tudor’s official user guidance says that its watches require periodic servicing and maintenance to guarantee optimum performance. It directs owners to official retailers and service centers in the Rolex and Tudor service network, but the cited material does not publish a universal price.
Do not assume that a Tudor service costs the same as a Rolex service simply because the brands share a service network. The correct quote depends on the Tudor model, caliber, condition, required parts, and whether the work is routine maintenance or restoration.
8. Seiko service cost
Seiko’s official U.S. customer-service information identifies the Seiko Watch of America service center and directs owners to authorized service channels. The cited pages do not provide a universal U.S. price list.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A quote can vary significantly between a basic quartz watch, an automatic model, a solar watch, a Grand Seiko, a vintage watch, and a watch requiring discontinued or difficult-to-source parts. Give the service center the exact reference, approximate age, symptoms, and any known history rather than asking for a generic Seiko service price.
9. Citizen service cost
Citizen’s U.S. support system accepts repair and service requests through an online form. A customer-care representative then follows up with additional details. The cited support page does not publish one universal Citizen service price.
That distinction matters across Citizen’s range. A simple battery or capacitor job is a different request from Eco-Drive diagnosis, chronograph repair, bracelet work, water-resistance service, or replacement of a proprietary component. Submit the exact model information and describe the problem before comparing the estimate with other brands.
10. Casio service cost
Casio’s U.S. support route directs customers to product repair and parts assistance rather than displaying a universal watch-repair price.
Ask for a model-specific quote because the service path can differ between a standard quartz Casio, a G-SHOCK, a Pro Trek, a vintage model, and a specialty module. Parts availability can be especially important for older digital watches. A repair estimate should identify whether it covers the module, case, crystal, bezel, band, seals, battery, or only diagnosis.
11. Omega service cost
No current public U.S. Omega service price was verified in the available official material for this comparison. The responsible answer is therefore quote-only: contact an Omega boutique or authorized service center for the exact model and caliber.

Do not replace the missing official figure with an unattributed online number. Omega service costs can be affected by the movement, complication, vintage status, parts requirements, case and bracelet condition, and whether the owner wants restoration work in addition to mechanical servicing.
12. Patek Philippe service cost
Patek Philippe is the twelfth brand in this comparison. No current public U.S. numeric service figure was verified in this research pass, so it should be treated as quote-only. Obtain the estimate through the brand’s official service route and provide the exact reference, movement information, age, and condition.
For a high-value or vintage Patek Philippe, the estimate should clearly distinguish routine movement service from restoration. Dial, case, bracelet, hands, crowns, and other original components can raise both the cost and the importance of the owner’s approval choices.
Also considered: Audemars Piguet falls into the same quote-only category in the available research. A current public U.S. numeric figure was not verified, so it should not be assigned an unsupported price. It is mentioned here as an additional haute-horlogerie brand, not as a thirteenth entry in the comparison.
Why service quotes vary so much
Two watches from the same brand can receive very different estimates. The main variables are:
- Movement type and complexity: Quartz, automatic, manual-wind, chronograph, GMT, perpetual calendar, tourbillon, and proprietary movements require different labor and parts.
- Condition: A watch needing routine cleaning is not comparable with one that has rust, worn pivots, a damaged balance, water intrusion, or a broken chronograph.
- External components: Crystals, bezels, crowns, pushers, dials, hands, cases, case-backs, bracelets, and buckles may be excluded from the advertised service price.
- Restoration decisions: Polishing, refinishing, replacing a vintage dial, or preserving original wear can change the scope and price of the job.
- Parts availability: Older, discontinued, limited-edition, and vintage watches may require an estimate rather than a standard rate.
- Location and logistics: U.S. prices cannot automatically be inferred from a Swiss-franc table. Shipping, insurance, taxes, and local labor rates can also affect the final amount.
How to compare watch service estimates
Before approving any work, ask the service provider to identify the service level and all likely exclusions. This checklist prevents the most common apples-to-oranges comparisons.
Recommended Free Tools
- Identify the watch precisely. Supply the brand, model, reference number, caliber if known, serial number where requested, approximate age, and service history.
- Describe the symptoms. Mention whether the watch stops, loses or gains time, has a weak power reserve, fails to reset, shows condensation, needs a battery, or has visible case or bracelet damage.
- Define the work. Ask whether the estimate covers battery service, partial maintenance, complete service, restoration, or a separate repair.
- Ask about parts. Confirm whether crystals, crowns, pushers, bezels, dials, hands, bracelets, buckles, cases, case-backs, seals, and gaskets are included.
- Clarify polishing. Ask whether polishing is optional, included, an additional charge, or required before the service can be completed. On a vintage watch, get explicit approval before refinishing.
- Confirm testing. For a water-resistant watch, ask whether seals are replaced and water-resistance testing is included. A cleaning service alone does not restore water resistance.
- Check fees and logistics. Ask whether shipping, insurance, tax, diagnostic charges, and return delivery are included or billed separately.
- Get the warranty in writing. Cartier’s cited repair material describes a 24-month repair warranty. IWC specifies 24 months for complete or restoration work and 12 months for simple service. Other brands and service levels may differ.
- Approve revised estimates. Diagnosis may reveal work that was not visible at intake. Decide in advance whether the provider may proceed up to a specified limit or must request approval for every additional item.
Should you service through the brand or an independent watchmaker?
For a valuable, complicated, vintage, or water-resistant watch, the safest starting point is the brand’s official service network or a watchmaker with demonstrable expertise in that caliber. This provides a clearer parts and warranty path, although it may cost more or involve a longer turnaround time.
An experienced independent watchmaker can be a sensible option for some watches, particularly when the owner wants a specific preservation approach or the brand’s quote is unsuitable. The important questions are not simply whether the provider is cheaper. Ask about experience with the exact caliber, parts sourcing, water-resistance equipment, polishing policy, insurance, documentation, and warranty.
Never treat an online generic price as a firm comparison unless it identifies the same movement, same service level, same parts coverage, and same geography. A low quote that excludes the crystal, crown, bracelet, or damaged movement may not be lower once the work is complete.
What you can safely do at home
Owners can generally limit home maintenance to gentle exterior care and strap changes performed with appropriate caution. Do not open the case, regulate the movement, replace seals, attempt a pressure test, or use consumer tools for movement repair.

Its versatile size also makes it a great choice for cleaning antiques and musical instruments.
- MADE IN USA: This is a product made in USA with high quality materials. We guarantee our product with 60 day money back.
For light exterior cleaning, consider a watch cleaning kit, but use it only in a way that is appropriate for the watch’s materials and manufacturer guidance. A consumer kit cannot regulate a movement, replace gaskets, restore water resistance, or perform a complete overhaul. Keep moisture away from the case and crown unless the watchmaker or manufacturer specifically confirms the relevant cleaning method.
A spring-bar tool can help with strap changes, but a slipping tool can scratch lugs or damage the strap. If the watch is valuable or the fit is difficult, have the strap changed professionally. Home care should reduce surface dirt between services, not replace professional diagnosis.
How often does a watch need service?
The brands in this comparison do not provide one universal interval that applies to every model, movement, age, climate, and usage pattern. Tudor’s official guidance says periodic servicing and maintenance are required for optimum performance, but the cited material does not establish one universal price or schedule.
Use symptoms and the manufacturer’s model-specific guidance as practical triggers. A watch that is losing significant time, stopping, showing reduced power reserve, failing to reset, fogging internally, or losing water resistance should be assessed rather than simply left until a calendar date. Vintage and complicated watches deserve an especially precise service plan.

For the clearest published U.S. examples, Cartier lists approximately $430 for complete service and $60 for battery service, while TAG Heuer lists $285 to $1,550 depending on the complete-service group. Longines publishes CHF 230 to CHF 460 for representative full services, and Breitling’s $200 to $850 figures are historical July 1, 2017 recommendations rather than current prices.
Rolex, IWC, Tudor, Seiko, Citizen, Casio, Omega, and Patek Philippe should be approached as estimate-based brands in this comparison. The best quote is the one that states the service level, parts exclusions, testing, warranty, logistics, and approval process—not necessarily the lowest number on the first page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a battery change the same as a complete watch service?
No. A battery change replaces the battery and may include basic checks, while a complete service involves diagnosis, movement disassembly and cleaning, lubrication, reassembly, regulation, seal replacement, testing, and quality control. The exact scope varies by brand and service level.
Why does Rolex not publish one standard service price?
Rolex says the price depends on the service type and the watch’s condition. An estimate is provided after evaluation by Rolex-certified watchmakers, so publishing one universal Rolex price would be misleading.
Will the advertised service price include replacement parts?
Not necessarily. TAG Heuer’s published complete-service prices exclude many external components, including crystals, bezels, cases, dials, bracelets, and buckles. Other brands may also charge separately for parts, polishing, shipping, tax, or diagnostic work.
Can I service my watch with a home cleaning kit?
A cleaning kit is suitable only for cautious exterior care when compatible with the watch and its materials. It cannot overhaul a movement, replace seals, regulate the watch, or restore water resistance. Do not open the case or attempt movement repair at home.
How should I compare two watch service quotes?
Use the exact model, reference, caliber, and serial number where requested, then ask whether the estimate covers complete service, partial maintenance, battery work, restoration, external parts, water-resistance testing, shipping, tax, and warranty. For valuable, complicated, vintage, or water-resistant watches, start with the brand or an authorized service center.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Do not choose a watch service by brand-wide average. Compare a written, model-specific estimate that states what is included, which external parts are excluded, whether water-resistance testing is performed, and what warranty applies.
