The Sinn EZM 9 TESTAF is a 44 mm titanium automatic pilot watch with a date, a timing bezel and TESTAF certification—not a chronograph. Sinn specifies a Sellita SW 200-1 movement and a 22 mm lug width. A 2014 Fratello review praised its legibility and light feel, but found the watch large on the reviewer’s wrist; that is useful context, not a substitute for trying the case on your own wrist.
What the Sinn EZM 9 TESTAF is
The EZM 9 is a three-hand, date-equipped automatic watch with a pilot bezel. Sinn’s technical sheet specifies the Sellita SW 200-1, with 26 jewels, 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour, stop-seconds hand setting, and shock and anti-magnetic resistance to DIN 8308 and DIN 8309. It is not a chronograph: the bezel can be used to track elapsed time, but the watch has no separate stopwatch function. Sinn’s EZM 9 technical information
Case size, fit and wearing impressions
Sinn specifies a 44 mm bead-blasted titanium case and a 22 mm band lug width. The dimensions are more useful for judging fit than the material alone: titanium may reduce heft, but it does not make a 44 mm case wear small. Check how the case diameter, thickness, lug span and strap sit on your wrist before deciding whether the watch will be comfortable. The technical sheet does not state the case thickness.
In Gerard Nijenbrinks’s Fratello review, published October 5, 2014, the team wore and tested a Sinn-provided watch for over two weeks. Nijenbrinks found it light because of its titanium case, praised the dial’s readability, and said the 44 mm watch looked large on his 18.5 cm wrist. What TESTAF certification means
Sinn says the EZM 9 was tested and certified to the Technical Standard for Pilot’s Watches (TESTAF) by Aachen University of Applied Sciences. Sinn’s manual describes the standard’s purpose as ensuring that a pilot’s watch meets time-measurement requirements for flights under visual and/or instrument flight rules. This certification concerns the watch against a defined standard; it does not replace aircraft instruments, pilot training or operational procedures. Sinn EZM 9 TESTAF manual
Fratello’s account of TESTAF also discusses considerations such as legibility, pressure and under-pressure resistance, G-force, temperature, vibration, resistance to specified fluids and not influencing the aircraft compass. Those details come from the manual and the review’s summary of the standard; they should not be read as a claim that every item appears in Sinn’s short technical sheet or that the watch is suitable for every aviation operation.
Materials and environmental features
Sinn lists three notable technologies for the EZM 9: TEGIMENT surface hardening, Ar-Dehumidifying Technology and temperature resistance technology. The manufacturer specifies functional reliability from −45 °C to +80 °C. These are manufacturer-stated features and operating specifications, not promises that the watch is invulnerable to scratches, moisture, temperature extremes or misuse. Bezel, crystal and water resistance
The technical sheet describes a pilot bezel with a luminous key mark and a captive sapphire-glass insert. Nijenbrinks remarked on the insert’s glossy appearance in the reviewed configuration. Sinn specifies a sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, screw-fastened case back, water and pressure resistance to 20 bar (200 m water depth), and low-pressure resistance. The depth figure is a stated water-resistance rating; it is not, by itself, guidance for a particular dive or a guarantee against damage in every real-world condition.
How accurate is the Sinn EZM 9?
Nijenbrinks reported that his review sample gained over a minute a week. This is one historical observation from a particular watch in 2014, not a current accuracy specification or a measure of typical SW 200-1 performance. Sinn’s technical sheet lists the movement and its operating features but does not establish a daily rate for every EZM 9. For a used example, ask for a recent timing check and service history rather than treating that review result as a prediction.
Strap size and configuration
Sinn specifies a 22 mm band lug width, so a 22 mm watch strap is the starting size when considering replacements. Confirm that a third-party strap’s attachment and clearance work with the watch’s lugs and case. The Fratello review’s strap had orange stitching, which Nijenbrinks found tiresome over time; that is a personal reaction to the reviewed strap, not a statement about every EZM 9 configuration or an official strap option.

Is the Sinn EZM 9 TESTAF too big for my wrist?
