Sotheby’s completed its Geneva sale celebrating Breguet’s 250th anniversary in 2025. The official sale page lists 70 results and a sale window of 24 October to 9 November. Breguet had described the event as the largest auction dedicated to the Maison in more than 30 years—a characterization from the brand, not an independently quantified comparison of past sales.
What was Sotheby’s Breguet auction?
Announced by Breguet on 30 January 2025, the sale was organized in collaboration with the Maison as part of its 250th-anniversary celebrations. Sotheby’s titled it “A Celebration of Breguet’s 250th Anniversary” and lists Geneva as the location, 24 October–9 November 2025 as the sale window, and 70 results.
The event is over. A post-sale report by Time and Watches, dated 11 November 2025, says the auction was held in Geneva on 8 November. That differs from Sotheby’s wider catalogue sale window, so the two dates should not be treated as interchangeable.
Breguet’s announcement framed the sale as a tribute to Abraham-Louis Breguet’s inventions and legacy. Sotheby’s Watches Chairman Emeritus Daryn Schnipper said the house was honored to curate a special anniversary sale, while Breguet CEO Gregory Kissling said the anniversary celebrated the founder’s creative genius. Both remarks appeared in Breguet’s announcement.
Which watches stood out?
The catalogue ranged across historic pocket watches and clocks, wristwatches and a contemporary anniversary model. Not every category was equally prominent; three lots particularly connect the sale’s technical, historical and anniversary themes.
Lot 9: Breguet No. 1890 tourbillon
No. 1890 is an 18-carat gold four-minute tourbillon with échappement naturel and additional complications. Sotheby’s catalogue records its delivery to Frédéric Frackmann in 1809 and its sale to Comte Alexis Razoumoffsky. Time and Watches reported a sale price of CHF 1,880,000 against a pre-sale estimate of CHF 350,000–700,000.
Lot 51: No. 4548, made for King George IV
This perpétuelle à tact was made for King George IV in 1827. Its date and power-reserve displays and the king’s monogram on the caseback distinguish the watch; Sotheby’s records its sale to the king on 3 July 1827. Time and Watches reported a sale price of CHF 762,000, against an estimate of CHF 300,000–800,000.
Lot 46: the anniversary Souscription
No. 250, reference 2025BH/28/9W6, is the limited-edition Classique Souscription wristwatch made in 2025 for the anniversary. Time and Watches reported a sale price of CHF 82,550.

How should the reported prices be read?
The figures below are reported by Time and Watches, not presented here as independently verified hammer prices. Sotheby’s says results displayed on its sale page include any Sotheby’s premiums and exclude applicable taxes and costs. That basis matters when comparing an auction result with an estimate or another sale.
| Lot | Watch | Pre-sale estimate | Reported sale price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9 | No. 1890 four-minute tourbillon | CHF 350,000–700,000 | CHF 1,880,000 |
| 51 | No. 4548 perpétuelle à tact for King George IV | CHF 300,000–800,000 | CHF 762,000 |
| 46 | No. 250 anniversary Classique Souscription | not stated by Time and Watches | CHF 82,550 |
All three sale prices and the first two estimates in the table are reported by Time and Watches. Sotheby’s describes its displayed results as inclusive of any Sotheby’s premiums and exclusive of applicable taxes and costs.

The catalogue’s breadth is part of the story: alongside celebrated historic pocket watches, it included marine chronometers, carriage clocks, chronographs and modern wristwatches. The highlighted lots show why the anniversary had more than a commemorative angle: No. 1890 represents early technical ambition, No. 4548 ties Breguet to a royal client, and No. 250 interprets the brand’s Souscription tradition in a modern anniversary watch.
For collectors assessing any auction lot, useful comparison points include period and watch type, complication, provenance, condition and completeness, estimate, realized price, and whether the quoted result includes buyer’s premium or excludes taxes and other costs. Auction terms also matter: Sotheby’s lot notices can warn that movements may need service, repaired or restored components may not be guaranteed authentic, or straps may be removed. Such notices are lot- and sale-specific, not blanket assurances about every watch in this auction; bidders should consult the individual lot description and applicable conditions.
