Andy Green’s April 2017 “Spotted!” dispatch follows a month of watch encounters from London to Baselworld: a car enthusiast’s Autodromo, a vintage Rolex shown at Phillips, Green’s Tudor picks, and a mix of independent watches and collaborations. The headline says April 7; the page itself gives its publication date as 22 April 2017.

London: an Autodromo and a Porsche

Green opens with a London outing alongside Ted Gushue, Editorial Director of Petrolicious. Gushue wore an Autodromo Group B Evoluzione as the pair drove around the city in a 1977 Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera. Green describes the Autodromo as Gushue’s choice when globetrotting and notes its popularity among car enthusiasts.

A vintage Datejust at Phillips

At Phillips, Green spoke with watch specialist Paul David Maudsley, who showed him the Crosthwaite & Gavin Collection. Maudsley also shared a watch from his personal collection: a 1954 Rolex Datejust ref. 6309 Thunderbird, accompanied, Green reports, by its original box, papers and swing tags. The dispatch said the larger collection was due to go to auction in November 2017; that was a forward-looking note in the original article, not a current auction announcement.

Green’s Tudor choices at Baselworld

Among the Tudor watches at the fair, Green singled out two: the Black Bay Steel and the Black Bay S&G. These are his personal picks from the 2017 event, rather than a general ranking or present-day buying recommendation.

Autavia encounters and a five-piece collaboration

Discommon “Discautavia”

Carson Chan wore the Discommon “Discautavia”. Green’s dispatch describes it as one of only five made; that production figure is the article’s claim about this particular collaboration.

Heuer Autavia ref. 11063

Neil Ferrier showed Green a Heuer Autavia ref. 11063 that he had recently collected. According to the dispatch, Abel Court had freshly restored it after Ferrier bought it from its original owner, who had used the watch as a dive watch in the navy.

Colourful Nomos watches

At Nomos Glashütte, Green saw new colourways for the Club and Ahoi, as well as the Club Campus “Graduates” series. He liked the colourful dials and what he viewed as the watches’ value. The dispatch does not give prices or a like-for-like comparison to define that value.

Green’s pick of the fair: H. Moser & Cie.

Green named the H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds in steel as his pick of Baselworld. The 2017 article called it the brand’s first steel watch; that description belongs to the context of the dispatch and should not be read as a current statement about the brand’s lineup.

Other watches in the dispatch

  • Urwerk “Flask 2”: Green mentions the sold-out collaboration with Macallan.
  • MB&F x Black Badger HMX: James Thompson was wearing this collaborative watch.

What the dispatch does—and does not—tell a buyer

This is a personal record of watches Green encountered at a particular moment, not a product comparison or buying guide. It identifies models and people associated with them, but gives no prices, technical specifications, current availability, or present-day market values. Its usefulness is in the names and stories attached to the sightings; any current purchase decision requires up-to-date product and listing information.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
