The Sternglas Merion is a 41 mm automatic sports watch distinguished by an internal rotating bezel and two screw-down crowns. The black-red version, reference S02-ME03-SET, pairs a Seiko TMI NH35 movement with a 20 ATM rating stated by the manufacturer. Sternglas’s euro product page currently lists it at €649 but says it is sold out and will not be available again; that is a regional listing, not a confirmed offer from a retailer.

These are manufacturer specifications for the black-red variant, not independent measurements or test results. The 41 mm diameter is only one part of the fit: the 49 mm lug-to-lug and 14 mm height also matter when judging how the watch will sit beneath a cuff or across a wrist.
How the Merion wears and works
Size and construction
At 41 mm wide, 14 mm thick and 49 mm from lug to lug, the Merion has a substantial profile for a watch intended to serve as an everyday sports model. The steel case is specified as 316L with brushed and polished finishing. A 20 mm lug width is listed, but that measurement alone does not establish that every standard strap will work with the bracelet connection.
Internal bezel and two crowns
The Merion’s timing bezel sits beneath the crystal rather than rotating around the outside of the case. The two screw-down crowns are used to operate and secure the watch’s controls. Sternglas’s handling guidance says to close both crowns after use and check that no warning color is visible; follow the maker’s directions rather than assuming a crown is secured by appearance alone. See the Sternglas Merion handling instructions.

What the 20 ATM rating does—and does not—establish
Sternglas says the Merion is water-resistant to 20 ATM thanks to its two screw-down crowns. The company also makes clear that both crowns must be closed for the watch to remain optimally protected and water-resistant. Treat 20 ATM as the manufacturer’s stated rating, conditional on correct crown use—not an unconditional guarantee for swimming or diving, and not an independent test result.
Before exposing the watch to water, secure both crowns as described in the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not operate them while the watch is wet or underwater. If you are unsure whether a crown is properly secured or the watch has been damaged, avoid water exposure and consult a watchmaker or Sternglas support.

Movement and timekeeping
The black-red Merion is listed with a Seiko TMI NH35 automatic movement, date display and hacking seconds—the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled to set the time. Sternglas specifies up to 41 hours of power reserve and an accuracy range of -20 to +40 seconds per day. These are the maker’s stated figures; they do not guarantee that an individual watch will perform at a particular rate.

The Merion listing gives a 20 mm lug width and says a rubber strap is included. Sternglas separately identifies its 20 mm link bracelet as compatible with the Merion and Marus 2.0. That explicit compatibility matters: the 20 mm measurement does not prove that any generic 20 mm strap will fit the Merion’s integrated connection. Check the attachment shape and seller’s compatibility details before ordering a replacement.

Quick Recap
Who should consider the Merion?
- Consider it if you want an automatic sports watch with an internal rotating bezel, two screw-down crowns and the Merion’s distinctive black-red design.
- Check the fit carefully if you usually wear smaller or thinner watches; use the 49 mm lug-to-lug and 14 mm height alongside the 41 mm diameter when comparing.
- Verify before buying if sourcing one after the official listing’s discontinuation notice: confirm the reference, condition, seller and current price, and do not assume an authorized retailer has stock.
- Confirm strap compatibility before buying an aftermarket band; use Sternglas’s specifically documented Merion-compatible bracelet or verify a replacement’s connection design.
