The Sternglas Naos Big Date is a 38 mm quartz version of the Naos with one headline change: a two-disc big date at 6 o’clock that shows tens and units in a single large window. The reference is S01-NAG26-BR02 (called Naos Großdatum on the German site). It uses a Seiko TMI VJ76 quartz movement with hacking seconds, and official pages quote up to 36 months of battery life. The UK page listed £289 and the German page €299 on October 7, 2026. This guide combines the maker’s specifications with Jorg Weppelink’s hands-on review for Fratello, and keeps the two clearly separate.
What is actually different about the Big Date
The Naos keeps its familiar design language. The change is the date. Instead of a small aperture, two discs (tens and units) sit behind a large window at 6 o’clock, so the date can be read at a glance. Weppelink at Fratello describes it this way: “The date display adds a clever twist that makes it easy to read the date.”
The dial is alabaster with luminous details, paired with black hands that also carry luminous material. Descriptions of the lume differ by source. The German product page specifies turquoise lume, while Fratello describes beige LumiNova. If lume colour matters to you, check the regional page you plan to buy from.
Is it quartz or automatic?
It is quartz. The movement is the Seiko TMI VJ76, with a big date and hacking seconds, meaning the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled so you can set the time precisely. Both official pages quote battery life of up to 36 months (three years).

The two official pages quote different accuracy figures, so each is given with its market:
- Sternglas UK: −20/+20 seconds per month
- Sternglas Germany: −10/+20 seconds per month
These are the manufacturer’s stated tolerances, not independent measurements.

Size and case
The case is 316L stainless steel with brushed and polished surfaces, topped by a domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating. The thickness figures look inconsistent but come from different bases: the UK manufacturer page gives 10 mm height excluding the crystal, while Fratello gives 10.9 mm thickness overall.

A 38 mm case with a 42 mm lug-to-lug suits smaller and average wrists. The 5 ATM rating is a general water-resistance rating. The maker does not describe the watch as a dive watch, so treat it accordingly.

Strap and bracelet options
Sternglas UK lists black or dark brown bridle leather and a silver SuperSlim stainless-steel bracelet. Fratello describes the same split: black leather, dark brown leather, or steel bracelet. Weppelink said he preferred the leather look and found the bracelet comfortable. These are his impressions, and the sources give no comfort or durability comparison.
The 20 mm lug width matters if you want to swap straps later. Confirm that any third-party 20 mm strap fits the lug design and spring-bar setup before buying, since the sources do not establish compatibility with specific products.

How to read the Fratello review
Weppelink’s article was published May 2, 2025, and labels itself a partnership post. It is a dated hands-on impression, not independent laboratory testing, and the sources contain no accuracy, lume-duration or wear-test data. Sternglas also does not state a comparison with other Naos models, so there is no basis here to call the Big Date better or worse than them. It is a variation with a different date display.

The Bottom Line
Choose the Naos Big Date if you want a compact 38 mm quartz watch with a highly legible date and sapphire crystal at roughly €299 or £289. Skip it if you want a mechanical movement, or if the 5 ATM rating won’t cover your use.
