The Stolas Harbormaster Spinnaker, reference SH-02-02, is a discontinued-era automatic diver-style watch best approached today as a collectible or used-market find. Period listings describe a 44 mm polished steel case, carbon-fiber dial, 25-jewel automatic movement and 200 m depth rating. Those are historical specifications—not verified measurements or performance claims for any watch offered for sale now.
What the Stolas Harbormaster Spinnaker is
KeepTheTime’s video listing, published June 26, 2011, identifies the watch as the “Stolas Harbormaster Spinnaker Automatic Watch,” model SH-02-02. A WatchShock review from April 28, 2011, also covers the Spinnaker and describes it as one of a 125-piece limited edition. The available period sources establish its historical identity, but do not establish current retail availability, resale value or manufacturer support.
Historical specifications
The figures below come from period descriptions, rather than inspection of a current example. KeepTheTime lists the dimensions and features in its 2011 video listing; WatchShock provides a separate period description in its 2011 review.
| Feature | Period description |
|---|---|
| Case | 316L stainless steel; 44 mm diameter, approximately 49 mm across including the crown, according to KeepTheTime. WatchShock gives 44 mm diameter and 14.2 mm thickness. |
| Thickness and weight | 14 mm and 125 g in the KeepTheTime listing. WatchShock lists thickness as 14.2 mm; the sources do not reconcile the small difference. |
| Movement | Automatic, 25 jewels. WatchShock describes it as an SMC-supplied movement based on the ETA 2824. |
| Dial and display | Carbon-fiber dial with date at 3 o’clock, as described in the period listings. |
| Crystal | Sapphire with anti-reflective treatment, according to KeepTheTime. |
| Bezel and crown | Unidirectional rotating bezel with luminous material and a screw-down crown, according to the period descriptions. WatchShock specifies a 60-click bezel. |
| Water-resistance claim | 200 m / 660 ft in the KeepTheTime listing; WatchShock also describes 200 m water resistance. This is a listed rating, not evidence that a particular used watch remains water-resistant. |
| Strap | Rubber strap included in the period listings; 24 mm lug width listed by KeepTheTime. WatchShock says a steel bracelet and NATO straps were optional. |
Movement and design in context
A 2011 Rolex Forums owner account says the Spinnaker and the related Gennaker used an SMC 2824 beating at 28,800 beats per hour, and says those models were assembled and tested in the United States. The same account contrasts them with the Genoa, described as using a Swiss ETA 2824-2. These are the forum member’s descriptions, not independently verified factory records.
#1 Best Overall
- Stainless Steel case with Black Resin Band
- Black Dial with date window at 3 O'clock
- Luminous markers and hour hands; sweep second hand
- Anti-reverse bezel
- Water-resistant to 200 M (660 feet)
In that reviewer’s comparison, the Genoa was the premium silver-dial model, the Spinnaker had a polished stainless-steel case and carbon-fiber dial, and the Gennaker used a PVD-coated case. The comparison also describes a shared 44 mm case, 24 mm lug width, automatic movement, date, screw-down crown, sapphire crystal and 200 m rating. It is useful for understanding how the models were presented at the time, but it does not establish that a present-day example has the same parts, condition or serviceability.
How it was regarded
A collector retrospective praised the Spinnaker’s lume while criticizing its daytime legibility, and called the design eye-catching. That is one person’s impression, not a standardized test or a reliable prediction of how every example will look or perform.

WatchShock reported a historical price of $579 and a production run of 125 watches. The price is a 2011-era figure, not an estimate of today’s value. A later review of the related Gennaker said the Spinnaker appeared to have sold out at that time; that old statement about a sibling model cannot establish current availability.

The period specifications can help identify a candidate, but they cannot verify its condition. Before buying, ask the seller for clear photographs and documentation, and consider an independent watchmaker’s inspection.

- Confirm the reference and ask for the serial or edition number; compare the watch’s details with the SH-02-02 description rather than relying on the model name alone.
- Inspect the case, bezel, crystal and dial for damage, replacement parts or signs of heavy polishing. Check that the bezel rotates as expected and that its luminous material is intact.
- Test the crown and date operation, and ask for movement, timekeeping and service records. A stated movement family does not prove the condition or originality of the mechanism in a particular watch.
- Request a recent water-resistance test from a qualified watchmaker before any water use. Do not treat the historical 200 m rating as a guarantee for a decades-old watch.
- Measure the actual lug width before ordering a strap. The period listing gives 24 mm, but condition, modifications or measurement differences can affect fit.
The available information does not establish an authorized service network or current parts source. Factor that uncertainty into a purchase and seek a watchmaker’s assessment of serviceability before committing if ongoing support matters to you.
