The Straton Legera Standard and Legera Bullhead are related retro-style chronographs, but their defining difference is the crown position: the Standard has a conventional crown at 3 o’clock, while the Bullhead puts its crown and chronograph controls at the top of the case. Both were offered with automatic and meca-quartz movements. The Bullhead is narrower and shorter by Straton’s listed dimensions, yet its sloped case can wear tall and top-heavy.
What is different between the Legera Standard and Bullhead?
The Standard uses a conventional layout, with the crown at 3 o’clock. On the Bullhead, the crown is at 12 o’clock and the chronograph controls sit at the top of the case. That arrangement gives the Bullhead a distinct case shape and changes how its controls are positioned when worn.
Straton describes the collection as a retro-styled chronograph range, offered in multiple colors with a mix of polished and brushed surfaces. Worn & Wound’s 2019 first look covers the collection’s design and options.

#1 Best Overall
- Pagani Design Classic Men's Watch: The overall design is curved with smooth and soft lines. The iconic panda dial design and the orange elements accented by the chronograph hands add a sporty and colorful touch to the watch. The bar indexes and hands glow at night through the synthetic sapphire crystal. The light storage function allows you to read the time clearly at all times.
- Sport chronograph: precision timekeeping with Japanese VK63 quartz movement. The large second hand is the chronograph, controlled by the upper right corner (pause/start) and the lower right button (reset to zero). The dial at 3 o'clock is the "24-hour system", the dial at 6 o'clock is the real second hand, and the sub-dial at 9 o'clock is the "minute counter".
- STURDY AND DURABLE: The surface of the corrosion-resistant stainless steel strap is brushed and polished to maintain its luster and great texture. The strap is cut flat and comfortable to wear. It is equipped with a folding safety clasp for a perfect fit on the wrist. The leather strap is soft and lightweight. Unique hole design and color matching show the diversity of the watch. The result is a stylish, classic chronograph.
- Daily life waterproof: 100M waterproof using waterproof sealing technology effectively protects the movement and electronic components. It can easily cope with most of the situations, but can not be worn in the bath or sauna and other high-temperature conditions, water vapor will corrode the waterproof rubber ring. (Note: Please tighten the crown when entering the water)

Why do published Bullhead thickness measurements differ?
Thickness figures are not directly interchangeable when they measure different parts of the Bullhead’s sloped case. Straton lists the Bullhead at 13 mm for meca-quartz and 16 mm for automatic. The Time Bum reports an overall height of 17.5 mm for the meca-quartz and 20 mm for the automatic when measuring from the lug foot to the crystal at the case’s tall end. Those measurements describe a different span, rather than establishing that one source’s figure is the definitive case thickness.
There is also a small difference in reported Bullhead length: Straton and Worn & Wound list 48 mm lug-to-lug, while The Time Bum reports 46 mm long. The published figures should be read with their source and measurement convention in mind, not treated as a resolved manufacturing discrepancy. See The Time Bum’s Legera comparison and Worn & Wound’s first look.
Which movement option should you choose?
Automatic
The Standard pairs its automatic version with the Valjoux 7753; the Bullhead uses the Valjoux 7750. Choose between them first by case layout and fit, then confirm that the specific watch you are considering has the movement expected for its model.

Meca-quartz
The Standard’s meca-quartz version uses the Seiko VK63, while the Bullhead’s uses the VK67. These are hybrid chronograph movements, and their register layouts differ from the automatic versions. The Time Bum discusses layout differences across variants; Straton’s model-specific page is the source for the pairings above. Its secondary reporting includes conflicting movement references, so those should not be substituted for Straton’s listed combinations.

Straton’s dimensions make the Bullhead 2 mm narrower and 2 mm shorter lug-to-lug than the Standard. Those numbers do not fully describe wrist presence: the Bullhead’s sloped case rises toward the top, which can make it feel tall or top-heavy even when its width and length look manageable.
Reviews illustrate the tradeoff rather than settling it for every wrist. Kaz Mirza of Two Broke Watch Snobs described the Bullhead as large and top-heavy on a 6.75-inch wrist, while finding the case back comfortable against the wrist; the review also contrasts the thicker automatic with the thinner meca-quartz. The Time Bum found the angled case comfortable and appreciated its dashboard-like presentation, while also noticing the top-heavy feel. These are individual wearing impressions, not a universal fit verdict. Read Two Broke Watch Snobs’ Legera Bullhead review alongside The Time Bum’s account.

If possible, assess the case profile as well as the width and lug-to-lug before choosing. The Standard is the more conventional option if you prefer a side-mounted crown and controls; the Bullhead is the distinctive choice if you want top-mounted controls and are comfortable with an angled, potentially top-heavy case.
Can you still buy a Legera Standard or Bullhead?
Straton’s product page describes a preorder that closed on April 15, 2019, and says no extra stock would be ordered beyond watches preordered by the deadline. That establishes the end of the original preorder window, not whether new or used examples are available today, or what they cost. Current inventory and resale prices are not established by the cited sources.

For a used example, verify the exact model, movement, condition and service history. Straton’s listed 10 ATM/100 m rating is a manufacturer specification for the watch, not evidence that an individual used watch remains water-resistant. Have its condition assessed before relying on water resistance. The listed 24-month warranty is historical and should not be assumed to cover a current buyer.
Straton lists a 22 mm strap width. If replacing the strap, confirm the attachment and fit on the exact watch before buying a 22 mm watch strap.
