Fitbit removed Challenges, Adventures and Open Groups on March 27, 2023. Stridekick is one of the most direct alternatives for people who want to keep using a Fitbit while joining step competitions: it syncs activity data from connected devices and provides the challenge, leaderboard and group features. It does not restore Fitbit’s old experience or replace Fitbit’s health-tracking tools.

What Fitbit removed—and when

On March 27, 2023, Fitbit removed Challenges and Adventures, including their related trophies, as well as Open Groups on Android and iOS. Fitbit said the changes were part of streamlining the app and incorporating Google technology. It said users could still create closed groups and use community forums, but those tools do not provide the old challenge formats. Fitbit’s announcement

What Stridekick does for Fitbit users

Stridekick is a cross-device activity-challenge platform, not a Fitbit clone. Your tracker or phone records activity; Stridekick imports supported data and adds challenge formats, leaderboards and social competition. Fitbit users can generally keep their device and Fitbit account rather than switching hardware. Stridekick’s Fitbit user guide describes the service as a separate challenge platform, not a replacement for Fitbit.

Stridekick advertises support for Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin, phone-based tracking and other sources. Compatibility and available metrics can vary by device, operating system and permissions, so check the exact setup each participant will use before organizing an event. Stridekick

How to connect Fitbit and check that data is arriving

  1. Create or sign in to a Stridekick account.
  2. Choose Fitbit as the activity source and authorize the connection when prompted.
  3. Sync your Fitbit normally, then open Stridekick and check its recent-sync or “Last synced” status.
  4. Confirm the challenge is receiving the metric you intend to use—such as steps, distance or active minutes—before inviting a group or relying on the leaderboard.

Fitbit-originated activity depends on an active Fitbit account and a working data connection; Stridekick does not read the sensor directly from your wrist. The precise app menus may differ across platforms and versions. Stridekick’s guide describes the connection and sync process, but does not establish one universal click path for every setup. Challenge formats and plan limits

Stridekick lists 11 formats: Leaderboard, Target, Streak, Virtual Race, Custom Activity, Team Leaderboard, Team Virtual Race, Group Target, Stick to It, Group Virtual Race and Group Fundraiser. A leaderboard suits a “who can collect the most steps?” contest; a target sets a shared or individual goal; a streak rewards repeated daily targets; and a virtual race turns activity into progress along a route. Team and group formats support collective competition. Stridekick challenge formats

What does not transfer from Fitbit

  • Stridekick does not replace Fitbit hardware, the Fitbit account, its health dashboard or Fitbit Premium.
  • Stridekick supports activity metrics including steps, distance, active minutes, calories and sleep, but support does not mean every connected device supplies every field or calculates it the same way.
  • Its Fitbit guide emphasizes steps, distance and active minutes as core challenge data. Check which metrics actually sync before choosing a cross-device contest.
  • There is no established migration of old Fitbit challenge results, Adventures, trophies or badges into Stridekick.
  • Do not assume Fitbit-specific features such as Zone Minutes, sleep animals or historical achievements appear in Stridekick.

Sync, privacy and fairness checks before a group challenge

If activity is missing or delayed

  1. Open Fitbit and perform a normal device sync; confirm the activity appears in Fitbit first.
  2. Open Stridekick and inspect the recent-sync status.
  3. Check that Fitbit remains the selected activity source and that the connection is authorized.
  4. Review phone permissions if using phone-based tracking, then reconnect or reauthorize if needed.
  5. If the data still does not appear, contact Stridekick support before the challenge deadline.

Agree on a comparable metric

“Active minutes” may be calculated differently across Fitbit, Apple, Garmin and other ecosystems. Choose a metric all participants can supply, and confirm it is arriving for each device before the start. Manual entry can also have restrictions and may not suit community challenges, so verify the current rules in the app rather than assuming entered values will count.

Choose the right visibility

Free challenges are public; use a paid private challenge for a group that should be invite-only. Fitbit Community users have reported concerns about unwanted participants, but those reports do not establish a current platform-wide security defect. Treat visibility as a setup decision: review the challenge’s privacy controls before sharing it. Fitbit Community discussion

Who should choose Stridekick?

  • A good fit: Fitbit owners who mainly miss friendly competition, mixed-device groups, or organizers who want a leaderboard, race or target without asking everyone to buy the same tracker.
  • Try Free first: A public challenge of up to 10 people and seven days can test device connections and data freshness.
  • Consider Pro: An organizer who needs private challenges, more participants or an event longer than a week.
  • Consider Unlimited: A group that needs team or group modes, all 11 formats, reporting or challenges of up to 90 days.
  • Look elsewhere if: Your main goal is an exact recreation of Fitbit Adventures and trophies, a complete health dashboard, coaching plans, or a private challenge without an organizer subscription.

Is Stridekick the top Fitbit challenge alternative?

“Top” is best treated as a fit-based judgment, not a verified market ranking. Stridekick is a leading practical option for Fitbit-compatible group challenges because it lets users keep existing devices while moving the competition layer to a separate service. It is not an official Fitbit successor, and its virtual races do not establish feature parity with the former Adventures. For a simple public step contest, its free tier may be enough; privacy, longer events and team formats change the cost calculation.
