If you forgot your Samsung Galaxy Watch PIN or pattern, Samsung’s supported recovery is a factory reset—not a way to reveal or remove the lock while keeping the watch’s data. A reset erases information stored on the watch, and setup may ask you to verify the Samsung or Google account previously associated with it.
Choose remote erase if the watch is linked to your Samsung account and reachable; otherwise, use the watch’s recovery menu. If it is still unlocked and connected to Galaxy Wearable, you can reset it through the app.
Choose the reset method for your situation

Before resetting: know what you may lose
A factory reset deletes data stored on the watch, including settings, installed apps and their local data, watch-face customizations, unbacked-up media or files, and pairing information. Samsung warns that erased data may not be recoverable and recommends backing up through Galaxy Wearable before resetting. See Samsung’s reset guidance.
Data synchronized to Samsung Health or another account may be available again after you sign in, and a backup made before the lockout may help restore some content. Neither guarantees that every setting, app, or health record will return exactly as it was. If the watch is locked and you had no existing backup, assume that watch-only data will be lost.

- Charge the watch on its compatible dock before starting.
- Have access to the Samsung account linked to the watch. A Wear OS model may also ask for the Google account previously used on it.
- If possible, note the exact watch model and whether it has LTE. Button combinations and menu labels vary by model, software, phone, and carrier.
- If the watch is still listed in the phone’s Bluetooth settings, unpair it before certain reset procedures: on the phone, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, tap the settings icon beside the watch, then tap Unpair. Samsung recommends this to help avoid pairing problems after a reset.
Option 1: Erase the watch remotely
Remote erase is convenient when the watch is linked to the Samsung account you can access and can receive the command. Samsung support uses both “Samsung Find” and “SmartThings Find” names in its instructions; the service name and interface can vary by region and account experience.
- Open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find in a browser.
- Sign in with the Samsung account associated with the watch.
- Select the watch from the device list.
- Choose Erase data and confirm. Enter the Samsung account password if prompted.
- Wait for the command to reach the watch. When the Welcome screen appears, set it up again with Galaxy Wearable.
Remote erase may not be available if the watch is powered off, out of battery, offline, unsupported by the Find service, no longer associated with the account, or linked to a different Samsung account. Samsung also says Galaxy Fit models cannot be remotely reset this way. If an erase command remains pending, charge and connect the watch if possible; otherwise use recovery mode. Option 2: Reset from the recovery menu
Use recovery mode when you cannot unlock the watch or control it through a connected phone. The timing matters: if the watch boots normally, start again from a complete shutdown. A regular restart does not remove the PIN.

- If possible, power the watch off. If it is still paired to a phone, unpair it in the phone’s Bluetooth settings as described above.
- Power the watch on. While it starts, press and hold the Home/Power key until “Rebooting…” appears.
- Release the key, then immediately press and release the Home/Power key repeatedly to open the Reboot mode menu. Do not pause on the menu.
- Keep pressing the key until Recovery is highlighted, then press and hold the Home/Power key to select it. Release when the display goes dark.
- Complete the wipe using the menu shown for your model, then reboot the watch.
Galaxy Watch4 and later Wear OS models
Samsung documents an additional confirmation sequence for Galaxy Watch4 and later Wear OS watches: after Recovery opens, swipe down to Wipe data/factory reset and swipe right to select it. Swipe down to Factory data reset, swipe right to confirm, then swipe right to reboot when the wipe is complete. Menus can differ by model and software version, so do not assume the same screen sequence on every watch.

Galaxy Watch3 button difference
For Galaxy Watch3, Samsung specifies holding the Power/Home and Back keys together to reach the rebooting state. Other models may use different timing or controls. Check Samsung’s reset instructions for model-specific guidance.
If Recovery does not appear
- Charge the watch, then begin again from a full shutdown.
- Use the correct model-specific button combination; press and release the Home/Power key rapidly when “Rebooting…” appears.
- If the watch freezes during the attempt, force-reboot it and try again. Button combinations vary; Samsung specifically identifies the Home/Power and Back keys together for Galaxy Watch3.
- If the buttons or display are damaged, or repeated attempts fail, use remote erase if available or contact Samsung service rather than guessing at prompts.

Option 3: Reset through Galaxy Wearable
This route is for a watch that remains accessible and connected to the phone; it is not a way around a lock that prevents you from controlling the watch.
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the connected phone.
- Tap Watch settings, if shown, then General.
- Tap Reset, then tap Reset again to confirm.
- Pair the watch again after it restarts, then check for software updates.
Menu labels may vary by model. Galaxy Fit products have different reset routes: the original Galaxy Fit is reset through Galaxy Wearable or while connecting to another phone, while Galaxy Fit2 has its own on-device sequence. Consult Samsung’s reset guide for the relevant product family.
Auto factory reset after failed attempts
Samsung says a watch can reset itself after 20 failed PIN or pattern attempts only if Auto factory reset was enabled when the lock was configured. This is not a general unlock method: it erases the watch, and intentionally guessing can trigger that loss. Use remote erase or recovery mode instead if available. Samsung’s security-lock guidance explains the setting.

Set up the watch after the wipe
- When the Welcome screen appears, open Galaxy Wearable on your phone and follow the pairing instructions.
- Sign in to the account requested during setup. Depending on model, software, and account history, you may need to verify the Samsung account or the Google account previously associated with the watch; not every watch prompts for both.
- Restore an available backup if prompted. Expect that some local settings or app data may not be restored.
- Install available watch software and app updates after reconnecting.
If a reset watch asks for an account you do not control, the previous owner must help. A factory reset is not a way to bypass an ownership check.
LTE watches and carrier setup
A reset does not itself cancel a carrier plan, but the watch may need its cellular service configured again. Samsung notes that a watch activated with a QR code may require a new QR code from the carrier after reset. Keep your carrier account and mobile-line details available, and contact the carrier for reactivation instructions or a replacement eSIM code. See Samsung’s watch troubleshooting guidance.

The watch is offline or the remote command is pending
A remote wipe needs a supported watch associated with the correct Samsung account and reachable by the service. Charge it and restore a network connection if possible. If it cannot receive the command, use recovery mode.

The watch is frozen or stuck on the Samsung logo
Charge it and try a force reboot using the controls for that model. A reboot may address a temporary freeze, but it does not remove a forgotten PIN. If the lock remains, use recovery mode. Persistent boot failure after a reset may require Samsung service.
The watch is used and asks for the previous owner’s account
Ask the previous owner to remove the watch from their Samsung account, unpair it from their phone, and complete a reset. Have them confirm the watch reaches setup without requesting their ownership credentials. Do not use third-party tools marketed to bypass account verification; the previous owner or Samsung support is the appropriate route.
The display is broken or buttons do not respond
Use remote erase if the watch is online and linked to your account. Recovery mode depends on the screen and physical controls, so a blind button sequence is risky; contact Samsung service if you cannot see or operate the prompts.
