The Swatch teaser reported on April 27, 2026, turned out to be the Audemars Piguet × Swatch Royal Pop: an eight-model collection of Bioceramic pocket watches launched at selected Swatch stores on May 16. It drew substantial crowds and online attention, but the available evidence does not establish that it was the biggest Swatch launch since MoonSwatch by sales—or by any consistently measured comparison.
What did Swatch tease?
Swatch’s teaser, reported by Stuff on April 27, 2026, read, “The real wonders are happening in May,” and used the familiar “X Swatch” collaboration format. The accompanying image showed eight colored, stitched loops arranged like a flower.
Stuff speculated about an “Eight Wonders of the World” theme and floated possible partners or designs including a Hamilton Khaki Field and an Omega Aqua Terra Worldtimer. Those were predictions, not confirmed product details. Swatch’s subsequent announcement named Audemars Piguet and the Royal Pop collection.
What is the Royal Pop?
Royal Pop is a pocket-watch collection that combines design cues from Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak with Swatch’s 1980s POP watches. It is not a plastic Royal Oak wristwatch. Swatch Group announced eight models in Bioceramic, fitted with a new hand-wound SISTEM51 movement. The manufacturer specifies more than 90 hours of power reserve and a Nivachron balance spring; those are product claims, not independent test results.

Two case styles and several ways to wear it
Swatch describes six Lépine-style models, with the crown at 12, and two Savonnette-style models, with the crown at 3 and a small-seconds subdial. Each has a calfskin lanyard offered in three lengths and a removable stand. The suggested uses include wearing it around the neck or on the wrist, carrying it in a pocket, attaching it to a bag, or displaying it as a desk watch.
The official announcement also lists a transparent caseback, sapphire crystals on the front and back, anti-reflective coatings, and a power-reserve display integrated into the barrel drum. These details are from Swatch Group’s product announcement.

Royal Pop and MoonSwatch: what is actually comparable?
Both are Swatch collaborations built around recognizable high-end watch designs, but their format and source material differ. MoonSwatch takes inspiration from Omega’s Speedmaster Moonwatch and is a wristwatch collection; Royal Pop draws on the Royal Oak and Swatch POP, and is designed as a pocket watch with a lanyard and stand. Swatch’s official MoonSwatch collection page describes its debut as eleven watches inspired by the solar system and the Speedmaster Moonwatch.

The MoonSwatch sales figures are historical figures attributed to Swatch by Hodinkee, not audited numbers presented here as independently verified. Hodinkee also reported that Speedmaster sales rose in the short term after the collaboration.

Did Royal Pop have the biggest launch since MoonSwatch?
Royal Pop clearly attracted attention, but attention measures cannot establish a sales ranking. The Associated Press reported that Swatch said crowd-management challenges arose at about 20 of the 220 stores where Royal Pop launched because queues were exceptionally long and some shopping malls were not organized for the turnout. AP also reported Swatch’s claim of more than 11 billion social-media views since launch. Neither figure represents watches sold.
AP’s launch-week coverage put the retail price at around $400 and reported resale offers in the thousands. Those figures describe reported launch-week conditions; they are not a current price guide or evidence of typical resale value. See the Associated Press report.

There is no directly comparable Royal Pop unit-sales figure in the available coverage. Swatch Group’s 2026 half-year report described group-wide sales acceleration in May and June, confirmed in July, but did not isolate Royal Pop’s contribution. It therefore cannot show whether Royal Pop outsold MoonSwatch.

Swatch Group said the collection became available at selected Swatch stores on May 16, 2026, with a limit of one watch per person, per day, per store. Because that is the announced launch arrangement rather than a live stock report, check Swatch’s current store or product information for availability.
