Hultafors offers a full lifetime warranty on the axe head—not the whole tool. Its listed hickory handle and leather sheath have different wear and care considerations.
What makes the Hultån a camp hatchet?
Hultafors describes the Hultån as a trekking hatchet for forest and campsite work. Its stated uses include collecting and processing firewood and building shelter, making it a compact tool for camp tasks rather than an unspecified all-purpose axe.

The manufacturer says the hatchet is forged from Swedish quality steel at the Hults Bruk forge. It has a convex grind and a sharpened, polished edge, with an American hickory handle treated with linseed oil. A leather sheath is included. What “lifetime” means for the warranty
Hultafors says it provides a “full lifetime warranty on the axe head.” The coverage described on the product page applies to the head; it should not be read as a lifetime warranty on the hickory handle or leather sheath. Check Hultafors’ current warranty terms for the conditions that apply to a purchase.
A warranty term is not a measured service-life guarantee. The consulted official material gives no quantified durability test, survival rate, or comparative performance statistic for the Hultån.

Care depends on the component
The Hultån’s steel head, wooden handle, and leather sheath are different materials, but the available Hultafors product listing does not provide a detailed care routine. Avoid treating another maker’s advice as Hultafors-specific instructions.
For context, Gränsfors Bruk advises owners of its own axes to wipe and oil the steel head after use, avoid striking the edge against stone or other hard material, oil the wooden handle regularly, and store the axe where conditions are neither too dry nor too damp. It also says its leather edge guard should be dry before it is fitted. Gränsfors identifies its handle and leather guard as wear items that may need replacement with continuous use. These are Gränsfors Bruk’s care instructions, not Hultafors instructions.

How the Hultån warranty differs from Gränsfors Bruk’s
Gränsfors Bruk states that its axes carry a 20-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Its policy requires proof of purchase from an authorized dealer and excludes normal wear, improper use, and lack of maintenance. The extended warranty does not cover the handle or leather edge guard. That is a separate maker’s policy, not an alternative description of Hultafors’ warranty.
| Maker and policy | Duration and covered part | Conditions stated by the maker |
|---|---|---|
| Hultafors Hultån | Full lifetime warranty on the axe head | Consult current Hultafors warranty terms |
| Gränsfors Bruk axes | 20 years against manufacturing defects | Proof of purchase from an authorized dealer; normal wear, improper use, and lack of maintenance are excluded. The extended warranty excludes the handle and leather edge guard. |
Warranty length alone cannot establish how long a tool will last in use, and the available manufacturer material does not provide a quantified head-to-head durability comparison.

Check the exact model before buying
Hultafors also lists a separate product simply called a hatchet. It is not the Hultån: its page describes a curved hickory shaft, a 900 g head specification, and an included sheath. Hultafors says that model’s steel has a clear tempered zone that can be sharpened without detracting from edge strength. Those specifications and construction claims belong to that separate product, not the Hultån.

For a compact Swedish-made hatchet aimed at campsite and forest work, the Hultån is the specific match. Its maker lists a 500 g head, 390 mm overall length, hickory handle, and leather sheath, while its lifetime warranty statement is limited to the head. The official product page does not establish an independent durability result or promise that every part will last a lifetime.
