The TAG Heuer Aquaracer 500m ceramic watch most often means the 41 mm generation introduced in 2012, including stainless-steel references WAK2110 and WAK2111. It added a ceramic bezel and changed the case and dial details of the earlier 43 mm Aquaracer 500m. The name can also describe a newer, separate Aquaracer Professional 500 Date, so the reference number matters.

Which Aquaracer 500m has a ceramic bezel?

For the historical Aquaracer 500m, look to the revised generation TAG Heuer introduced in 2012. The brand’s official guide identifies these references:

  • WAK2110: stainless steel, black dial.
  • WAK2111: stainless steel, blue dial.
  • WAK2121: stainless steel, champagne dial.
  • WAK2120: two-tone case and blue dial.
  • WAK2180: full-black model with a titanium-carbide case.

These are members of the same 500m generation, but they are not identical configurations. TAG Heuer’s Aquaracer history guide documents the family and its design changes. Check the reference on a specific watch rather than assuming every feature applies to every variant.

How the 2012 ceramic model differs from the first 500m

The first Aquaracer 500m arrived in 2009 as a 43 mm watch with a more angular case, rubber-ridged bezel, applied metal numerals, oversized crown, helium escape valve and vertically ribbed dial. On Calibre 5 and quartz models, the date was at 9 o’clock beneath a magnifier, according to TAG Heuer.

The 2012 revision reduced the case to 41 mm, gave the dial horizontal ribbing, moved the date to 3 o’clock and introduced the ceramic bezel. TAG Heuer Official Magazine described it as a move from the earlier case’s edgy design to a softer, more traditional shape, alongside the new bezel material.

Model generation Case diameter Bezel and design cues Date position
First Aquaracer 500m, introduced 2009 43 mm Rubber-ridged bezel; angular case 9 o’clock on Calibre 5 and quartz models
Revised Aquaracer 500m, introduced 2012 41 mm Ceramic bezel; softer case; horizontal dial ribbing 3 o’clock

These details are useful for identifying a generation, but the reference and configuration remain the stronger way to confirm a particular example.

Is the current Aquaracer Professional 500 Date the same watch?

No. TAG Heuer’s US product page lists the Aquaracer Professional 500 Date WBP5183.BF0010, a distinct 42 mm titanium automatic with ceramic bezel and a stated 500 m water-resistance rating. Its listed movement is Calibre TH30-00 COSC, with a 70-hour power reserve. The page displayed a US price of $5,400 on October 7, 2026; price and availability can change.

That current model should not be confused with the discontinued 41 mm WAK family simply because both combine an Aquaracer name, ceramic bezel and 500 m rating.

Where the 500m line fits in Aquaracer history

TAG Heuer traces the dive-watch lineage to Heuer dive watches introduced in 1978 and the 2000 Series begun in 1982. The brand says the 2000 Aquaracer returned in 2004 and the wider 2000 Series relaunched under the Aquaracer name in 2005. The 500m model followed in 2009; the ceramic-bezel 41 mm revision arrived in 2012.

The 500m series did not continue unchanged into later Aquaracer collections. TAG Heuer’s history says the fourth Aquaracer generation ran from 2014 to 2021, developed new 300m families, and that the ceramic-bezel 300m replaced the 500m in 2015. A ceramic bezel by itself therefore does not identify a 500m watch.

What to check when buying a pre-owned example

The official model history helps identify reference families, but it does not authenticate an individual watch, verify its service history or establish live inventory. Treat listing details as claims to verify, not as proof.

  • Reference and configuration: compare the stated reference with the case, dial, bezel and finish shown. Confirm whether the watch is a WAK steel variant, two-tone WAK2120 or black titanium-carbide WAK2180.
  • Generation cues: use the 41 mm case and 3 o’clock date layout to distinguish the 2012 revision from the 43 mm 2009 model, while still confirming the reference.
  • Condition and service: ask for clear photographs, a condition description and available service documentation. A water-resistance rating when new does not establish the condition or present-day water resistance of a pre-owned watch.
  • Transaction protections: review the seller’s authentication process, return terms and whether box and papers are included. None of these details can be inferred from the model reference alone.
