The watch most likely meant by “TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph in 18K Gold” is reference CBS2240.FC8319: a 39 mm automatic chronograph with an 18K 3N yellow-gold case, gold-toned dial and black subdials. It is not a 2026 debut: TAG Heuer’s 2024 retrospective describes the watch as a tribute released “last year,” pointing to 2023, though the brand does not give an exact announcement date. The separate 42 mm gold Carrera, reference CBN2044.FC8313, is a different model.
What is the 18K gold Carrera Chronograph?
CBS2240.FC8319 is an automatic Carrera Chronograph with a 39 mm case in 18K 3N yellow gold. The dial is vertical-brushed gold 2N, with black panda-style subdials for contrast. TAG Heuer’s product page lists the watch with an in-house TH20-00 movement and an 80-hour power reserve. TAG Heuer’s US product listing is the source for the specifications below.

The combination of a warm gold dial and black subdials gives this version a more traditional panda-style contrast than an all-gold dial layout. Its black perforated calfskin strap also keeps the appearance sportier than a bracelet would, while the gold pin buckle matches the case.
Is it really a new release?
Not in the sense of a 2026 launch. In an article published September 24, 2024, TAG Heuer’s official magazine said the brand paid tribute “last year” to its gold heritage with a solid-gold 39 mm Carrera Chronograph. That retrospective places CBS2240.FC8319’s introduction in 2023, but does not establish an exact launch date. The headline’s “New Release” label is therefore stale if read as a current announcement.

How it differs from other gold Carrera chronographs
Gold Carrera Chronograph is not a single model name. Check the reference before relying on a size, dial, movement or edition detail: several distinct watches share the broad description.

The 42 mm CBN2044.FC8313 is the closest alternative, but its black-and-gold dial, larger case and Calibre Heuer 02 make it materially different from the 39 mm CBS2240.FC8319. TAG Heuer’s 2022 brochure links that separate model’s inverted black-and-gold design to the historic 1158 CHN; that reference should not be mistaken for the newer 39 mm watch.

What is the Carrera’s gold-watch heritage?
TAG Heuer dates the Carrera’s first release to 1963. Its official history says the solid-gold Heuer 1158 CHN appeared in 1970 and became associated with motorsport drivers; the brand also says Ferrari team drivers including Niki Lauda and Mario Andretti received solid-gold chronographs in the early 1970s. CBS2240.FC8319 is framed by TAG Heuer as a tribute to that “Driver’s Watch” heritage, rather than as a replica of the vintage 1158 CHN.
