The 42 mm grade 5 titanium watch pairs an automatic Calibre TH81-01 with a transparent sapphire dial and double sapphire glassbox construction. TAG Heuer lists the international-page price as “Price on demand.”
What is the TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds reference?
The full name is TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds Chronograph Automatic, 42 mm, Titanium, reference CDD2180.FT8120. TAG Heuer marks the model “NEW” and categorizes it under Avant-Garde Horlogerie on its official product page. The reference’s defining development is its place in the Carrera line: TAG Heuer says this is the first time the split-seconds complication has appeared in the collection.
That is a collection-specific first, not the first TAG Heuer split-seconds watch. The brand has previously used the complication in Monaco models, as noted in its official magazine. In its launch description, TAG Heuer calls the Carrera release “a bold new chapter” for the collection.
What does a split-seconds chronograph do?
A split-seconds chronograph, also called a rattrapante, is designed to time two events that start together but end at different moments. TAG Heuer describes this watch’s split mechanism as tracking two times simultaneously: the readings can be separated while the chronograph continues timing. The product page also lists a 1/10-second indication, a 30-minute counter and a 12-hour counter.
How does the Carrera TH81-01 movement work?
The automatic Calibre TH81-01 powers the watch. TAG Heuer lists a 65-hour power reserve and a balance frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5 Hz. These are manufacturer specifications; the published product information does not provide independent accuracy-test results for this release.
What are the case, dial and strap specifications?
| Part | TAG Heuer specification |
|---|---|
| Case | 42 mm, grade 5 titanium, fine-brushed and polished |
| Crystal and construction | Double sapphire glassbox construction, front and back; sapphire-and-grade-5-titanium caseback |
| Dial | Clear sapphire with subtly smoked chronograph counters, red-lacquered counter accents and applied indexes |
| Strap and clasp | Black textile-pattern finish; specifications list the material as rubber and leather. Titanium folding clasp. |
| Water resistance | 30 m, as listed by TAG Heuer |
The transparent dial and exposed construction are central to the watch’s visual approach. TAG Heuer’s January 19, 2026 magazine article presents the grade 5 titanium, double glassbox and sapphire dial as part of its “Avant-Garde Horlogerie” direction, which the brand associates with high-end watchmaking, purposeful design, openworked architecture, advanced materials and finishing. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not an independent assessment of the watch’s finishing or wearability.

How much does the TAG Heuer Carrera Split-Seconds cost?
TAG Heuer’s international product page says “Price on demand” and directs visitors to contact an advisor or use its shop-in-store navigation. It does not publish a numeric price or stock status on that page. Check with TAG Heuer in your region for current local pricing and availability rather than assuming a global price or that the watch is in stock.
Is it limited edition?
TAG Heuer says, “Each timepiece is individually numbered and presented in a dedicated high-end packaging.” Individual numbering does not establish a stated production limit: the cited product information gives no total edition size. The launch description also says the watch incorporates more than 350 hand-finished components; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent component count.

What the release establishes—and what it doesn’t
On specifications, the CDD2180.FT8120 brings a sophisticated timing complication into the Carrera collection in a 42 mm grade 5 titanium format, with an automatic movement and an open sapphire display. The published material does not establish a numeric price, production quantity, delivery date, hands-on comfort or legibility, independent accuracy, or a basis for ranking it against competing watches. Its 30 m water-resistance rating is the listed specification; it should not be treated as a swimming or diving recommendation.
