The TAG Heuer Monaco CAW211P.FC6356 with Calibre 11 is the better fit if you want the left-side crown, a listed date display and the stronger link to the original Monaco design. Choose the CAW2111.FC6356 with Calibre 12 if you prefer its later iteration and slightly thinner listed case. Both are discontinued, so the decision is about which reference suits you—and the condition of the specific pre-owned watch you find.
Calibre 11 vs Calibre 12 Monaco: the key differences
These are closely matched blue-dial, 39 mm automatic chronographs. Their headline specifications are alike; the practical distinctions are the Calibre 11 model’s left-side crown and listed date, and the Calibre 12 model’s 0.65 mm slimmer listed thickness.
| Specification | Calibre 11: CAW211P.FC6356 | Calibre 12: CAW2111.FC6356 |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Calibre 11 automatic | Calibre 12 automatic |
| Case diameter | 39 mm | 39 mm |
| Listed thickness | 15 mm | 14.35 mm |
| Lug distance | 22 mm | 22 mm |
| Water resistance | 100 m | 100 m |
| Power reserve | 40 hours | 40 hours |
| Listed chronograph functions | Quarter-second chronograph; 30-minute counter | Quarter-second chronograph; 30-minute counter |
| Date | Listed | Not listed among the product page’s functions |
| Crown position | Left side | Not stated on the cited product page |
These are TAG Heuer’s published specifications, not comparative independent test results. The 0.65 mm difference is a listed measurement; it does not establish that one watch will feel more comfortable on every wrist. TAG Heuer’s CAW211P.FC6356 specifications and CAW2111.FC6356 specifications identify the exact references.
Which one should you choose?
Choose the CAW211P with Calibre 11 for its design cues
The left-side crown is the most distinctive reason to choose the CAW211P. It echoes the original Calibre 11 Monaco’s layout, and this reference also lists a date. If those details matter more to you than the slightly slimmer specification of its counterpart, the CAW211P is the more natural choice.
TAG Heuer’s official account says the first modern Calibre 11 Monaco appeared in 2009 and retained the left-side crown. The brand dates the original Monaco Chronomatic debut to March 3, 1969. In a TAG Heuer Official Magazine history, Jack Heuer recalled that the brand decided to turn the unusual crown position into a distinctive feature. TAG Heuer’s Monaco history and its Calibre 11 history provide the brand’s account.
Choose the CAW2111 with Calibre 12 for the slimmer listed case
The CAW2111.FC6356 is listed at 14.35 mm thick, compared with 15 mm for the CAW211P.FC6356. That is a modest specification difference, not a guarantee about fit or comfort. The CAW2111 is the straightforward pick if you prefer the Calibre 12 blue-dial iteration and do not need a date listed among the functions.

How the Calibre 12 fits into Monaco history
TAG Heuer says the Monaco received a significant update in 2009 with Calibre 12, a 39 mm case and sapphire crystal replacing plexiglass. The brand identifies a 2019 Calibre 12 Final Edition, reference CAW211J, and says the Calibre 12 line has been discontinued. Those milestones describe the model family; the specifications in the comparison above apply to the specific CAW2111 reference.
TAG Heuer also says it continues to use Calibre 11 models. That broader family statement does not change the discontinued status of the exact CAW211P.FC6356 product page.

What to check when buying either discontinued reference
TAG Heuer marks both exact product pages as discontinued. That means prospective buyers should assess individual pre-owned examples rather than assume current retail availability. The official product pages do not establish a current market price or verify any particular listing.
- Confirm the reference and configuration. Match the listing to CAW211P.FC6356 or CAW2111.FC6356, and verify that the pictured watch and stated features correspond to that reference.
- Assess condition. Request clear photographs and ask about the case, crystal, dial, hands, bracelet or strap, and chronograph operation; do not infer condition from a listing title alone.
- Review service records and papers. Ask what documentation is included and whether service work is recorded. Treat missing documentation as something to clarify, not as proof of a particular history.
- Check the seller and terms. Review seller reputation, written return terms and any available buyer protections before committing.
The cited sources provide manufacturer specifications and brand history, not a comparative accuracy or reliability test. They therefore do not establish a performance winner between these two references.
