In Time+Tide’s 2015 hands-on review, the square case measures 41 mm by 41 mm, and the movement is reported to run at 4 Hz with a 42-hour power reserve. The Phantom changes the watch’s materials and appearance; the review says its V4 movement architecture is structurally unchanged from earlier versions.
What is the Monaco V4 Phantom?
WAW2091.FC6369 is the reference for the Monaco V4 Phantom discussed in Time+Tide’s review, published 15 April 2015. It is a black-material variant of TAG Heuer’s Monaco V4, not a separate movement architecture. The model-specific review supplies the Phantom’s measurements and features; TAG Heuer’s current family page describes the broader V4 concept rather than establishing that this exact Phantom is currently for sale.

The square Monaco case frames an exposed, mechanical-looking dial. The Phantom’s defining visual choice is its use of Carbon Matrix Composite for the case and seven dial bridges, with titanium-carbide coating on other dial parts, according to the 2015 review. The result is a dark treatment of the V4’s engine-inspired layout rather than a redesign of the mechanism.
What is unusual about the V4 movement?
The V4 replaces the familiar visual language of a conventional winding rotor and gear train with a system built around a linear winding mass and miniature transmission belts. TAG Heuer describes the family as having four barrels on ball bearings, linked by mechanical belts, with a tungsten ingot moving linearly to wind the watch. The barrels are arranged in two parallel pairs, evoking an engine block.

Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTAG Heuer’s official Monaco V4 page calls the family “the first watch in the world to feature optimized mechanical transmission belts and a linear winding system,” and says the concept was unveiled at BaselWorld 2004 and is twice patented. That description applies to the V4 family, not uniquely to the Phantom. The brand’s historical account explains the operating idea: an ingot travels on rails to generate winding power, and small belts transmit that power through the movement.
Time+Tide reported in 2015 that the belts are 0.07 mm thick and that development took five years before the V4 became commercially available. Those are details from the dated review, rather than a current specification sheet for the Phantom.

What does the Phantom treatment change?
The 2015 review identifies the case and seven bridges as Carbon Matrix Composite, described there as a carbon-fibre and epoxy material adopted from aerospace applications. Other dial parts receive a titanium-carbide coating, and the watch is paired with a matte black alligator strap. The black finish gives the V4’s visible belts, barrels and bridges a more unified, subdued appearance.
The distinction matters: the review says the movement is structurally unchanged from earlier V4 versions. The Phantom’s character comes primarily from the material and finish choices around that architecture, not from a newly described complication or altered V4 mechanism.

How does it wear, and what does the review establish?
Time+Tide reported a weight of 98 g and a 41 mm square case. Those figures give a useful sense of its physical scale, but they do not establish how the watch will fit an individual wrist. The cited assessment is Felix Scholz’s 2015 hands-on review; it is not a claim of independent testing or wearing experience here.

TAG Heuer’s history notes that V4 cases have appeared in platinum, titanium, CMC and rose gold, and that a tourbillon option was introduced for the model’s tenth anniversary. These are family-history points: they do not mean each material or complication was offered at the same time, nor that the Phantom itself had every option. For the Phantom, the documented distinction is the CMC case and bridges, dark coatings, and the established V4 belt-and-linear-winding layout.
