TAG Heuer returned as Formula 1’s Official Timekeeper for the 2025 season. Formula 1 announced the appointment on January 6, 2025, as part of a wider ten-year partnership with LVMH. The designation restores a role TAG Heuer previously held from 1992 to 2003; it does not, by itself, establish that the brand operates Formula 1’s underlying race-timing system.
What TAG Heuer’s return means
“Official Timekeeper” is TAG Heuer’s championship-wide designation from the 2025 season. It is distinct from the brand’s earlier and continuing relationships with individual teams, and from the technical system that supplies Formula 1’s official timing data. The Formula 1 announcement names TAG Heuer to the role but does not describe a transfer of that underlying system or its operation. Formula 1’s announcement gives the appointment date and season.
LVMH says TAG Heuer presented a custom pit-lane clock synchronized with Formula 1’s official timing system and recalibrated before each race. That is a visible timekeeping activation, not evidence that TAG Heuer replaced the championship’s timing infrastructure. LVMH’s partnership page describes the clock and its stated dimensions: 1,200 mm in diameter and 35 kg.
How the appointment fits the LVMH partnership
Formula 1 and LVMH announced their Global Partnership on October 2, 2024, with the ten-year agreement beginning in 2025. TAG Heuer is the timekeeper Maison within that broader arrangement; Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy are also named. The partnership announcement covers the group relationship, while the January 2025 announcement specifies TAG Heuer’s Formula 1 role. Formula 1’s LVMH announcement sets out the partnership context.

TAG Heuer and Formula 1: a timeline
- 1969: Formula 1 says Heuer became the first luxury brand to have its logo appear on an F1 car. Formula 1’s account of the return recounts this milestone.
- 1971: Heuer became the first watch brand to sponsor an F1 team, Ferrari, according to Formula 1 and TAG Heuer’s historical summary. TAG Heuer’s official magazine also describes the brand’s history in the sport.
- 1992–2003: TAG Heuer held the championship’s Official Timekeeper role, according to Formula 1’s partner directory and TAG Heuer’s historical account. Formula 1’s partner directory lists the earlier tenure.
- October 2, 2024: Formula 1 announced its ten-year Global Partnership with LVMH, starting in 2025.
- January 6, 2025: Formula 1 announced TAG Heuer’s return as Official Timekeeper from the 2025 season.
The history also includes team associations such as Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull. These partnerships are not the same thing as being the official timekeeper for the championship as a whole.

What the public information does—and does not—say about timing
The available announcements establish the title and describe the synchronized pit-lane clock, but do not identify who builds or operates Formula 1’s underlying timing equipment, specify what hardware or software changed in 2025, or define the technical duties attached to the timekeeper designation. It is therefore accurate to say TAG Heuer returned as Official Timekeeper; it is not established that TAG Heuer took over race timing or changed the system that produces official timing data.

For readers interested in a consumer watch linked to the brand’s racing identity, TAG Heuer lists the Formula 1 Solargraph Solar Quartz, 38 mm, steel, reference WBY1111.BA0042. Its published specifications include a TH50-00 Solar Quartz movement, hours, minutes, seconds and date, and 100 m water resistance. The 2025 brochure says it recharges in natural or artificial light and gives manufacturer claims of up to ten months of operation after a full charge and a battery lifespan of up to fifteen years; those figures are product claims, not independent test results. TAG Heuer’s product page lists the watch, and the 2025 TAG Heuer catalogue provides the brochure information. This collection watch is neither the pit-lane clock nor Formula 1’s timing system.
