TAG Heuer Returns as Formula 1’s Official Timekeeper

TAG Heuer resumed its role as Formula 1’s Official Timekeeper with the 2025 season. Formula 1 announced the return on January 6, 2025, as its ten-year partnership with LVMH began. The appointment brings back a role TAG Heuer previously held from 1992 to 2003, while placing the brand within a broader partnership that includes trackside visibility and fan-facing activations.

When did TAG Heuer return as Formula 1’s Official Timekeeper?

Formula 1 announced on January 6, 2025, that TAG Heuer would return as Official Timekeeper from the 2025 season. The announcement linked the new role with the start of Formula 1’s 75th-anniversary season and the beginning of its partnership with LVMH. Formula 1’s announcement described the appointment as the next stage in the brand’s long association with the sport.

How does the appointment fit into Formula 1’s LVMH partnership?

Formula 1 announced in October 2024 that LVMH would become a Global Partner from 2025 under a ten-year agreement. TAG Heuer was named among the LVMH Maisons involved. Its timekeeper appointment is one part of that wider relationship, rather than a separate indication that every LVMH brand has the same role. Formula 1’s LVMH partnership announcement sets out the agreement’s timing and term.

What will TAG Heuer’s Formula 1 presence include?

Formula 1 said the partnership would include trackside branding, activations in Fan Zones and the Paddock Club, and new product ranges. These were plans described in the January 2025 announcement; it did not say that every activation or product was already available at that time. Formula 1’s current TAG Heuer partner listing identifies the brand as Official Timekeeper and names the Formula 1, Monaco and Carrera watch collections.

Does the partnership mean there is an official timekeeper watch?

The announcement does not designate a specific watch model as an official timekeeper edition, nor does the partner listing establish that any one model is required by or exclusive to the partnership. It names three TAG Heuer collections, but provides no individual-watch specifications or prices. The role announcement also does not explain the technical division of timing responsibilities among Formula 1, its timing systems and TAG Heuer, so it should not be read as saying TAG Heuer alone measures or adjudicates every race result.

What is TAG Heuer’s earlier history as Formula 1 timekeeper?

Formula 1’s partner listing says TAG Heuer previously served as Official Timekeeper from 1992 through 2003. Formula 1 also describes a longer motorsport history for the brand, including team partnerships with Ferrari and McLaren and more recent work with Red Bull. In its 2025 announcement, Formula 1 cited brand-associated historical totals of 230 wins, 595 podiums, 11 Constructors’ Championships and 14 Drivers’ Championships. Those figures are Formula 1’s account of TAG Heuer’s broader association with the sport, not performance measures for the renewed timekeeper role.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish

The announcement confirms the role’s return and outlines intended visibility and activations. It does not provide an independent assessment of commercial impact or a result attributable to the renewed appointment. Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1’s President and CEO, welcomed TAG Heuer as it began “the next stage of their long history in our sport.” TAG Heuer CEO Antoine Pin described the brand as being “at the very heart of Formula 1” in the timekeeper role; those are the companies’ stated views on the partnership, not independent evaluations.
